great day out J, well done. and the wet ground conditions are certainly a challenge for deep targets. I chased a few phantoms the past month. good on ya mate keep it coming, video work is excellent. my wife and I really enjoy them.
Cheers Barry, glad you and your wife like the vids. Wet ground is a pain, not just for the difficult GB but digging in the mud is no fun either!! I wonder if the 19" coil will have more immunity to the damp ground.... i guess time will tell. Im counting the days!!! God luck mate. JG
Really enjoy your vids. You do very well. I'm getting into detecting as well. Coming over from crevasing and panning side of things. Just wish I could afford a machine as nice as yours. 10k is a little steep right now. I guess I'll start with what I can afford and reinvest from that point. Best of luck on the detecting. Hope you strike it rich!
Well done getting back into gold prospecting, as I'm sure you know it can be quite rewarding. $10k is a little steep but there are some better priced detectors which will still find you gold. May i recommend the SDC2300. You can get one second for about $2500, which is a great machine. All the best and good luck. JG
Hey JG, when are you making another vid?, I cant afford a detector (at the moment) so watching your vids is the next best thing...love them. cheers, Sean.
Thanks for posting, enjoyable. I have never taken my 7000 anywhere other than a few mile radius in Nevada. I was just wondering why you guys say Zed and we say Zee for the letter Z. Is that just slang? That's quite a difference.
i'm knew to this. Had no idea prior to seeing your video. What would that 10 grams be worth ? i live in Vic and the guy that installed my Foxtel spoke about his weekend searching for gold in Creswick. Sparked my interest.
Gold has been a little volatile over the the last 24 hours cause of the US election, but its currently getting $53 a gram. Its a rewarding hobby but you have to put the time into it. Many countless hours wondering around finding noting.... But with the right gear and dedication you can do ok. All the best. JG
Awesome vids J, just wondering if you can share any tips on how you do your research; maps reports etc. or do you just read the ground as you come across it? Keep it up, great motivation to get back out there. Thanks mate.
Gday TD, would you believe that i dont really have any rhyme or reason as to where i detect. I just pick an area in the known goldfields and start wondering. If i come across a quartz outcrop, or ground that looks productive ill tend to slow down and closely work that area. I also try and swing over ground that looks like its been undetected for a while, Ie. move a lot of branches etc and see what that unearths. Ultimately the best advice i can give is to just spend as much time out there as you can, its a numbers game, the more hours you put in, the more youll get out. All the best and good luck. JG
Hi Jay. Can you give some advice on safety issues if hunting alone. I'm in WA and you hear of a few problems from time to time. Haven't been to the goldfields yet but would love to go for a few months. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers Chris.
Ive never prospected in WA so i cant really give much advice. The VIC gold fields are pretty safe as they are only a few mins drive away from a town. What are your concerns? Getting lost, injured, robbed, snakes, break down?
G'day J. So you are still making gold on that patch, well done and it seems the gold gods are sticking with you just wish they would look my way for a moment or two :-) Got myself a .5gmr last week but bloody hard work getting it. The wet conditions didn't make it any easier with the mud and all. I noticed in one of your other replies last week you mentioned that when you bumped your coil on sticks or rock it gave off a false signal, well I might as well join this club too as my Z was constantly doing this I just put it down to the very wet conditions. Have you been able to rectify this issue? In the end I backed off on my settings to sort of settle it down but still difficult going. In the same conversation you mentioned the 19" coil is coming . I contacted Minelab just recently and their reply was there is " no new info on the release but will advise on the ETA soon " which is pretty much the line I have been told some time ago, have you heard any rumblings about when the release of the new coil will be? Anyway another great vid and look forward to watching more soon. Cheers for now aar1
Gday aar1, yeah mate, that just about finished off that patch. I pulled out about 75g over 3 days so I'm very happy with that result. Ive been back a few times after that, but only got a few little bits, id say someone did quite well before me. But I'm in the same boat as you at time moment, I've been out 3 times in the past month and only scored abut 0.7g, so its really quieted down, but thats gold and you gotta just keep at it. Yeah the Zed doesn't like the wet, and neither do I haha. When the GT has had rain i tend to avoid it for a few days, the Zed is hard to GB and and digging in mud is no fun. The gold can wait. With regards to the false signals, with my zed that only happens in general. I had the coil replaced and it still wasnt perfect. Sounding off when it hit rocks and stick etc using general, high yeild is fine. I just avoid using general now, which isnt ideal i guess. Im not sure what im gong to do yet. I might ring ML and see what they say. Does your false signal in only general? Or high Yield also? Ive not heard anything either regarding the 19" coil. It was supposed to be out months ago and its been advertised in the gold magazine for a few months now. It cant be far off. Hopefully our luck can turn soon haha. All the best mate. JG
Hi J, yes it is hard going when you aren't finding much but I totally agree with you unless you are out there you " aint gonna find it " my biggest problem is finding enough time to get out to have a go. On my last trip day one it rained for most of the day so the next couple of days were wet and even with the software upgrade on the zed and using ferrite she was still hard to ground balance, just had to get it as good as I could and persevere. As for the sounding off it did do it a bit in high yield but no where near as bad and that together with backing off the sensitivity a touch I was able to manage but thats not perfect. I'm no electrical engineer wiz kid but you would think ML would have covered this issue given the coin we have all paid for the unit, and I purchased at the non discounted price! Hopefully next trip ( when ever that will be ) won't be as wet as last time and the zed behaves much better, or may be someone could enlighten me as to what I'm doing wrong if its not the machine? I guess in the defence of the 7000 the conditions were tough, sever mineralisation and wet conditions not to mention the lack of gold :-) ( wasn't much trash around but she still found 22 slugs and pellets easily ) so at the end of the day I suppose I can't complain to much. Hope to see more of your vids soon but I guess we will all have to wait for you to find that next patch!! good luck in the search. Cheers aar1
Yeah youll find that the wet and mineralised ground will give off plenty of signals and the only remedy will be to back the sensitivity off. Which isnt a big deal. Ive found a nice 10g slug which was over a foot deep using sensitivity 4 on the old software. So dont despair. Just keep at it, and try different settings and see what works. Ill upload another vid in a couple of weeks, iv always got a few up my sleeve. ;) Good luck. JG
which coil are you using? just a standard minelab one? I'm asking because I'm going to buy a gpx 4500 but would like to know if it's worth changing the coil. I'll get 11" mono and double with it.
Yeah its Just the standard 14" coil. Its the only one available for the GPZ. Id recommend getting a few for the 4500. At least a larger one like an 18". Good luck. JG
Gday Jay, do you run at custom settings on sensitivity & threshold during damp conditions or keep it std? I had a lot of issues with my z recently with ground noise several days after rain, so much so Minelab troubleshooting was unsuccessful & they replaced the coil. Got it to me (interstate) within 1 business day to. Impressive.
Unfortnatly I've got no wet ground settings, i just use what i normally use but back the sensitivity off a few clicks. Ive hd to replace a coil before too, it was giving off false signs in general when it bumped on sticks rocks etc. They gave me a new one, but it isnt much better. Is this the same as what youve experienced?
+J Gold My issue was mainly the z triggering repeatable signals every 2 mtrs or so & over the mullock heap. I didnt so much trigger on hitting sticks or anything. It appears to be a known issue at Minelab with other z users ( though not all) reporting the issue. I suspect a production run defect occured.
Yeah ok, I've heard of that before. Mine was never that bad, but there is a youtube getting around where a small twig brushing across the coil sounds like a 10oz piece!! Good luck with the new coil, keep me posted how you go. The 19" should be out soon, i cant wait!!
Heya Jay, was wondering, do you run the detector over the hole after you've removed your find, and have you ever found two nuggets in the same hole this way? Keep up the great videos.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OiJT10WDdPo.html I didnt film the first nugget, it was dark and id already got footage that day. I should have because it was a nice piece!! But the vids gives you an idea of why its important to check your holes. All the best. JG
great vids, not looking for you to give where you are away, but can you show roughly what type of area your detecting in, i.e. sloped, worked virgin, cheers
Mate to honst, i just pick a spot in the goldfields and work it for ages. I look for quartz and ironstone on the surface and try my luck. It doesn't always work, but eventually youll stumble over a nugget.
Awesome. Well it sounds like your in a good spot. Just work it as much and as often as you can. There will defiantly be more around. Keep me posted. JG
+J Gold I don't really like posting up my nuggets as unfortunately I had a bad experience people get jealous however I think I'm going to make a private channel if you're interested cheers Mitch
+J Gold eBay seems to do better than spot price sometimes, but fees are around 12.7%, then PayPal 3%, and the listing cost. looking for gold is like a gamble you can't lose
Because they were shallow, the SDC should have found most of them, but the SDC is best used in old working and mullock heaps. The SDC excels in those areas.
so the MIGHTY GPZ7000 doesn't like moisture for $10,000 it would want to like any condition failed there didn't they cause at the end the day you want to be able to go anywhere anytime.
All that matters mate is your getting the gold love ya work keep it up watch out for new aussie gold prospectors starting thursday night on discovery wow 700 ounce days
