Wow. I clicked on this video thinking it was about cults in general and was amazed to hear it was about David Hoffmeister's group! I've been a Course student for decades and of course have seen a number of David's UTube videos and interviews with others. I had no idea that his organization had this dark side. I congratulate you for having the courage to have this conversation. I read the reviews of this book on Amazon which are very positive.

I've just had a conversation with someone who had a similar experience with an extension of the LM community in Spain and now see how helpful this conversation is and the permission it gives to others to open up about their experience. I'm really surprised at how extensive this has been. Very unfortunate. I still believe everything happens for a reason beyond what we may realize, and ultimately for forgiveness. And this conversation coming up in the awareness is allowing the forgiveness to happen too.

I'm finding a deep concern in considering following someone who says they're the exponent of God, and your not knowing that you are also that -- in the equality your brother Jesus established by stating it is so. What a growth journey you're on Andy. It's wonderful to see. Blessings.

Sometimes there is a fine, fine line between a spiritual teacher and a cult leader. I have always thought they focus on the vulnerable, but sometimes it's just someone gullible. And aren't we all gullible at times? We all have our weak, gullible moments, and Andy is proof of that. It seems to me that K & G walk that fine line and consider themselves the only ones who know the truth, and the masses can't know it without them. We can't possibly understand ACIM without them explaining it to us. A good teacher helps us find the truth, they don't tell us what their truth is. Great interview. Thank you. I just ordered the book.

Yes, a fine line. There's always a worry that a really great teacher who inspires gratitude because of his clarity and sense of humour can get on top of himself, and forget his humanity. I'm a bit concerned about my current teacher, but that's probably cos I know *too much about cults!* * *David Hoffmeister* Met him twice, at talks he was giving in 1990s in Salt Lake City, and around 2005 in Wisconsin. He never made much of an impression on me. I guess he wasn't part of *the script* for me! Online, he's actually quite irritating with all his *"holiness".* He's a bigtime holy ego! But Davi H did spend decades travelling around ... and sleeping on floors and sofas, and in spare bedrooms; that's my impression. Maybe he decided he needed more stability 🧗‍♂️🙈😾🤓💛

This is where feeling is so valuable and so missing in Acim community. More light is not necessarily better and feeling or the Will of God in us, if healed, will always know by how it feels if it’s right or not. It never felt good to listen to or follow David’s endless interpretations which Acim clearly says not to do. It felt fishy 🎣 n self serving. Bless his little effort but it was good to see that the Will always knows. You can never fool the Will when she is healed,… you call it intuition. I call that Holy Spirit or the spirit of wholeness. Spirit n Will igniting the heart (never ending birth of Christ anew) ❤ I was in cult myself and I learned a lot especially the fact that Holy Spirit is never outside of me no matter how “bright looking” is the hook.

The monetary is supposed to be based on a book that teaches us miracles....if people walk away not with miracles but with trauma and massive forgiveness lessons, well, I personally do not believe they were following 'the script' that is written by God over there. The script is written, but we can usurp it with our own goals and plans anytime we choose. We all, as Course students, must be vigilant against usurpation, idols and specialness. God bless you Steve ❤️

I also had bad experiences with Living Miracles in 2019 and 2020. It ended up with me being kicked out for disagreeing with the LM hivemind. They taught me interpretations of ACIM that clearly don't have anything at all to do with it. Afterwards, it took me a few years to get rid of all that stuff from my mind. All in all, I think Living Miracles is well-intentioned but extremely misguided. If anyone is thinking of going to one of their resorts, please avoid them. I don't think, based on my experiences, that they're even emotionally or mentally fit for normal leadership positions in actual society. They certainly shouldn't have any spiritual teaching position over you.

Thank you for this video, Britney! And Andy. If we look at some of the teachings of Jesus in the gospel accounts, he himself has marks of a cult leader, at least as we now understand that term. As we know, he does say some radical things, such as that we must be even willing to hate our family, and even life itself, in order to follow him. He sets a very high bar for discipleship. The question for ACIM students is how we would understand those teachings in the gospels, or are they not even worth considering given that Jesus does not really go into all that in the Course... ? In the Course, Jesus does say that a good teacher would never terrorize his students, and that a true teacher wants to give everything to the student so that they would not rely on him or idolize him. And Jesus is the model -- he says not to worship him, that he is more like an elder brother and a friend, someone that is just like us, the only difference being that he has only gone all the way with his own atonement process (but because time is an illusion, that really doesn't make a difference.) It also seems that the implication in the Course is that we do not actually need to sever our relationships with others, including our family, but rather to change them into holy relationships by seeing them through the eyes of forgiveness rather than the eyes of judgement. This means, among other things, resisting the temptation to see ourselves unfairly treated, and also overlooking even the most "outrageous" things that others do. But there is a difference between how we think about those things in our mind, and what we might do in a practical sense, as members of our society and the world. In that sense, I think really the only thing to do is to forgive in our mind and heart whatever has happened, remembering that any acting out or "outrageous" behavior is really only a call for love. And to also remember that we all make mistakes, and we are all learning and in the same boat. We are all the students and the teachers. So if we do idolize or put someone up on a pedestal, rather than feel victimized or get bitter and what have you, it is upon us to own our own choices and take responsibility for what happened. Again, this is what we do within ourselves, but once we have done the forgiveness work, we then might choose to take some kind of action, such as what Andy did in writing his book -- as a warning to others, etc. Simply put, we can do what we feel we need to do in a practical sense, but practice forgiveness and let go of the grievances. Ultimately, we choose whatever journey we are on, and if we don't like it, then we have learned some forgiveness lessons from it. In a way, I sense that Andy took the hero's journey in leaving his family, slaying the dragon (or what have you), and ultimately returning full circle to realize that he had the truth all along, it was right there in his heart. The only problem I see in this, is I think what you were getting at Britney... While this was Andy's perspective, others have a different perspective of David, and some continue to live with him and support him. How do we understand that? Perhaps it was that everything Andy saw and witnessed with David was exactly what he alone needed to see in order to learn the forgiveness lessons he needed to learn... It seems that Helen was fairly clear that ACIM was not to become the basis for yet another cult. And yet, some have formed churches around ACIM, some do consider it their religion, and some even form what we might think of as a cult. (I'm not sure that David's group has all the markings of a cult, but it does seem to have some of them.) At heart, ACIM is a self-study course that is designed to bring the individual into a relationship with their inner teacher, or what ACIM students call the Holy Spirit. Any external teacher of ACIM is at best only helping you to do that, and at worst they are putting themselves on a pedestal and actually doing the opposite of helping you do that inner work. But of course it's not that simple as many people do seem to misunderstand and misinterpret the Course and actually would like a guide "in the flesh" how can help them to flesh out its meaning. And I understand that what I just said is controversial, because who is to say whose interpretation is the correct one? Long story short, if we really go deeply into this issue, we will be met with a rather complex situation, though ultimately forgiveness and getting in touch with our inner teacher and inner knowing is the way, as is letting go of all of our grievances. In that sense, we can thank our seeming oppressor or persecutor (in this case, David) for he helped us to learn these important lessons in forgiveness. Thank you again for the video! Andy I look forward to reading your book.

The paradox people don't see when following what others say is this: You cannot possibly follow what others say -because it was always your decision to follow them in the first place. So in the end you are still always following your own guidance. Take the Course for instance: Let's say you follow what the Course says. Well, why are you doing that? It must have been something in you, that you trusted, which prompted you to follow the course. At Mr. LeCompte: Even when you decided to follow David Hofmeister - it was still a voice in you that you agreed with, which told you to follow David Hoffmeister. No matter how you twist or turn, you always must follow inner guidance. It's impossible not to do so. You must decide which voice to listen to. If that is already the case, that must inevitably mean that the voice of truth is in you. So the notion that you don't have the inner voice of truth, while someone else has is self-defeating. If you didn't have it, you wouldn't be able to recognize it in another to begin with. At 29:45 Mr LeCompte said: "I taught myself to distrust myself." That is a self-contradictory statement because it implies trusting your own evaluation that you should distrust yourself. You trusted your own thoughts thatyou shouldn't trust your own thoughts. I would add one more thing that I feel is important. I also have experience with following someone I thought was enlightened who turned out quite apparently not to have been. Why did I do it? Because I wanted special powers I hoped following that person would grant me. People follow cult leaders because they want the special power, they hope the cult leader can grant them. It's important not to play the victim-perpetrator game. You can only follow a false teacher if you want some special powers from them, which is also a form of using the other person. Followers of cult leaders use the cult leader, just like the cult leader uses them. The cult leader is never loved for who he is, only for what he can give, which is no love at all.

Thank you. Yes. But just to be clear...Inner guidance is NOT just listening to a voice in our head. Inner guidance is ASKING Holy Spirit or Jesus what to do and following the intuitive prompts/ voice that leads to the fruits of joy and peace. Andy listened to his own voice, not holy spirit guidance. Listening to ones own voice will always bring us depression, and suffering and even dissociation. We are training our mind to listen ONLY to holy spirit guidance and NOT that voice in our head that leads us astray. Andy is responsible for it, but any teacher is responsible not to let the idolatry continue longer than is necessary...
@cromi4194
@cromi4194 4 месяца назад
@@MiraclesOfMind I didn't mean to say that inner guidance is just listening to any inner voice. I meant to say that even when you follow what others say, you are still listening to your own voice which tells you to listen to others. So you always follow advice, from a voice in your mind - either Holy Spirit or ego.

Thank you for sharing. My mother grew up Jehovah's Witness as well... and I think that was a big part of the reason why she chose NOT to raise us kids with any religion. My first experience of ACIM was coming across a bunch of psychotic and extremely depressed followers. I spent the last three years figuring out what was wrong, and it all lead back through him to Wapnick. But let's face it. All teaching traditions are all special and fearful and Luciferian ego. .

Hoffmeister cult begins with Wapnick and his distorting and hiding the course behind his self hate, world hate, creation hate death cult. Hoffmeister learned his cult tactics from Wapnick and from the endless list of dystopic and nihilistic eastern Nonduality personality cults. The Wapnick lineage has many forceful aggressive authoritarian dogmatic male egos besides them. It would be good to hear another video of his experiences with David and the cult.

I was quite disappointed to hear about this situation, as it seems to highlight how challenging the path to dissolving our ego really is. It does offer us all a beautiful opportunity to forgive ourselves as a whole however, and trust that we cannot hurt each other in truth. I found in the Text Chapter 26: Holy Ground X. Realizing Their Presence very helpful. Otherwise what are we doing but emphasising the belief in separation in our minds? 💛

Hi Britney, It seems that you make a logical case regarding the course and idols. And I appreciate how you spoke about equality being the foundation of the miracle. And it appears you don’t support the ‘specialness’ routine of some of the larger teachers around A Course In Miracles, which also seems solidly aligned. In yet for years in different groups I witnessed your husband be an apologist for all kinds of abusive behavior coming directly from Teddy Poppy. Behaviors that based off what you’re saying here, you would clearly recognize as abusive if someone else besides Teddy did it. So was there a ‘special accounting’ that you and your husband had for Teddy that you don't allow for David Hoffmeister? And can you speak about the Cult idol setup that Regina Dawn Akers has fostered and built since she also was in and around a crew that you knew well? Im just wondering how you celebrate Andrew’s courageous speaking up - backing him up with Course’s principles - and then, how your position of support for him aligns with your own experience of speaking up regarding people you yourself have known and know first hand have done and are continuing to do similar cult like things as we speak?
@MiraclesOfMind
@MiraclesOfMind 4 месяца назад
Hey friend. These are all valid and wise concerns and questions. Thank you. I know when it comes to Teddy many people saw these tendencies and when he was with his organization I do believe even more so. During his time in that position at Endeavor, Teddy helped to free copyright that was chained around the Course. That was the beginning of the end for Teddy in his 'cult era' as he stepped back from his position as "leader" and Endeavor closed down. Teddy had to atone for that role he took...and from the time that I knew him (which was 2014ish) he had. After Ted left Endeavor in mid 2000 I know he became a big voice in our community speaking against cults and idols..and that's the part that Tom was in support of. He wasn't in support of Ted being a shit disturber that he often was lol...but Tom was in support of speaking up and against idols...as idols have no role in ACIM. I was personally witness to Teds immense love for and guidance from Jesus that worked miracles in his life and with others ...but I also saw some of his crazy come out .... So Ted had stuff to work on like we all do..and we definitely can learn from him both what to do and what not to do. As for Regina Dawn akers or Ken Wapnick who've had cult tendencies or others who have followed in their footsteps...there are many. That's why this isn't about David. This is about cults and idols. Both Tom and I are teaming up to talk more about this topic more generally, because yes it's very prevalent in our community and Jesus is urging us to speak up about it at this time. Thanks again for sharing here 🙏 🩷
