Finding Nemo for the PS2 is a masterpiece of game design. What in the world could possible top the incredible mechanic of *SWIM THROUGH ALL THE RINGS?*
This game was the bane of my childhood. I used to play it whenever I stayed at my step-dad's house because it was the only game he had that I was allowed to play. The furthest I ever got was the second sliding block puzzle which I just couldn't solve no matter what. I must have played through the first few levels dozens of times because I basically had nothing else to do -_-
Ah Finding Nemo... there's also a GBA version. It's balanced better, and dare I say makes the PS2 version seem like an afterthought. Why? Well... - Backtracking happens maybe twice - One character in play, never team switching - Mini-games are limited to card matchups after levels (the game's only real completion aspect) - Pebble colour puzzles are never a thing - The Fish Tank is a filler level - They do the 2.5D just as well - End level jingles are horrifying And that's it. We didn't NEED a console version of a game like this. Was tempted to make a James Pond comparison, because FI5H, but nothing to really add to the above.
I played the GBA game as a kid. For some reason the music made me horrified of that game. I still very clearly remember the fear I had from the Following Dory music.
Mocho Gamer Ha. The real part that scared me was when I was mashing the buttons while a level was loading. I accidentally inputted a cheat and got into the level where you had to swim away from the scuba diver way to early.
I always thought that he edited it to look weird for a joke on saying that finding nemo looks realistic and having it look distorted just to make him sound funny
Oh god, I have the GBA version too. W-with an intro hack on the cartridge... yup. I'm still amazed that the sequel got so many ports. Hi DS version that only adds CG opening.
9:09 Actually, it’s in three levels: Field Trip (where it is actually mentioned), The Drop Off (the very first part of the level), and Hide and Seek. The weirdest part is that despite Marlin mentioning it and the game’s manual stating that both Marlin and Nemo can use it, it only appears in some of Nemo’s levels, none of Marlin’s. As for that part with Gurgle (the purple and yellow fish), if you look closely, there is a bar code on the side of the mountain that literally tells you what order to go through the “?” rings. Finding Jacques (the shrimp) is actually not that random. I noticed immediately that the coconuts were shaking, which to me was a hint that they needed to be hit. The sliding puzzles never really gave me trouble, and I was ten when I got the game. Admittedly, this was because I did solve some in-person sliding puzzles in arcades before playing the game, so it didn’t take me long to figure out the solutions, in fact the one in “Mask Search” I could do in seconds. “How long is this whale” well considering this is a blue whale, about 100 feet long, so actually it makes sense how long the level is.
*YoU KnOw yOu cAn't sWiM WeLl!* I remember getting this game ages ago. After playing Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, you realise this game is just a slightly refined version of CB:TWOC's swimming mechanics with extra gamemodes.
Do you guys know about the channel "Gamehut"? Apparently its run by one of the cofounders of Traveler's Tales (I think his first name is Jon or something) and hes uploaded tons of videos about coding tricks and beta/unused footage of games. Hell, he even showed off an unreleased Madagascar party game just to show off their PS2 special effects engine
4:22 Travellers Tails also made Lego Star Wars. They actually still exist but now often go by the name TT Games after a merger they had with another studio. Eventually they got bought out by Warner Bros. and now all they make is Lego games. The founder of Travellers Tales even has a RU-vid channel where he talks about the games he made.
I remember as a kid I was scared of the shark on the part you had to follow him that when you didn't follow him his eyes just turned black and comes after you.
7:56 - 8:01 made me laugh so hard that I literally cried tears X,D I seriously don't know why, maybe it was Marlin's derp face coupled with Soda's reaction XD I couldn't breathe, I unironically found it that funny X,,D
What so bad about UT other than the fandom? Pretty much nothing. I hate the people who hate it because of just the fandom. When they haven't even played the game.
Harcon _ Looking back at it now, you're kind of right. It's got a decent 1st movie, and the 2nd was worse, half of the movie was taken up by gay Prawns.
Ah man really augh to subscribe. Keep seeing videos from this channel every once in awhile in my recommendation and always enjoy it and the thumbnails are always really cute.
No joke, as a kid, the death screens and loading screens scared me so bad. I could handle all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies as a little kid, but Finding Nemo for PS2? Nightmares.
The one that disturbs me the most is in the Jellyfish Race. Failure to simply win a race results in Marlin saying “Dory? Dory? OH NO!!!!! as he is SWARMED by jellyfish, implying he gets killed. It made me think the same would happen to Dory if you won instead, but nope, she’s alive if she loses. The runner-ups were the anglerfish catching Marlin in his teeth in Anglerfish Chase and that jumpscare with the anglerfish if you swam too high as Dory in Mask Search. The funniest one was Marlin being blown away by the pufferfish in Mask Chase (I literally would trigger it a few times just to laugh some more), with the mine explosions being close second.
Man thanks for playing all of these ps2 games this brings back find ps2 memories yes i had a ps2 at some point i played walle, nemo, and the incredibles
You did forget to mention that Marlin is pretty much traumatized by the death of his wife and every single unhatched child he had with her EXCEPT for Nemo. Which is why he’s so overprotective of him
