i’m an avid viewer of colleen ballinger, and her pregnancies are really rough too. i feel like it’s a very common thing to have tough pregnancies but it’s very uncommon for people to talk about it because they feel as though they’re being ungrateful, when in reality, they’re over the moon excited but it just sucks feeling sick and tired and not like yourself for extended amounts of time. thank you for always showing us the reality!
@jenniewright3045
@jenniewright3045 2 года назад
I was told I was being ungrateful at first but honestly, the sickness, pain, nausea, dehydration and tiredness are something else. I'm grateful my daughter is healthy but oof the symptoms are horrific. Now I'm tackling abuse about feeding my child formula instead of breastfeeding, every part of pregnancy is abused by certain women so I think in the end it makes you tougher. As long as you and baby are healthy that all that ever matters

having a tough pregnancy is definitely more common than having a super easy breezy fun one. pregnancy is hard work on your body and brain and I love that more people are talking about that instead of "ooohhh being pregnant was maaagical and I looooved every second" like c'mon now we know that's not true!

It was so comforting watching the comments about the “real job” thing. I have an office job but with COVID I’ve been working 100% remotely through my whole pregnancy and that’s been tough enough (working from my couch, with a blanket, in my comfies and using my lunch break for napping when needed) I have NO idea how I’d coped having to travel to an office and get through the whole day and then travel back. I was so grateful to have been working remotely, absolute kudos to the women who have to be around people in a work environment during the first trimester.

Student midwife here! A cool fact I love telling pregnant peeps in early pregnancy: if baby continued to grow at the same rate they do during the first trimester, they would weigh HALF A TONNE at term!! Aka even though baby is teeny tiny and it feels like nothing is happening, baby is growing soooo much so your body is really doing the MOST - you go girl! So happy to see this episode Hannah, been following you for years and been following the Hormone Diaries very closely and I'm soooo happy for the pair of you. The maternity fashion will be interesting as you not only have to worry about dressing a bump you have to consider your stoma too! Hope you are feeling better now! You were saying how people in other jobs cope with early pregnancy, a friend at work is pregnant and she's suffered with bad sickness. She's only 10 weeks or less but had to tell everyone as we're nurses and she needed people to know so she wouldn't be put at risk with certain patients.

Regarding how do people with "normal" jobs do it, tbh you just do what you have to. I think the same way about people with multiple kids but again you just have to force yourself. I live in Sweden and was home with my baby for 1 year and 4 months and then my husband was home with her for another couple of months ans that's when I though how do people in other countries go back to work so soon I couldn't imagine how I could do it... But seriously you just get it done because you have no choice. Unless you actually have to be home because is sickness, happened to my colleague. Anywho so happy for you ❤️ i hope you have the best pregnancy and birth!!!

We've been trying for nearly 2 years now. Still nothing. I gave up with tracking everything months ago. It was getting too painful. Everything that felt "different" or could have been a possible pregnancy symptom (high temps/sore boobs etc) lead to nothing but just a period. I've even given up tracking ovulation now. It doesn't help. Does nothing but make me feel bad. We're still trying, but it's becoming extremely stressful now. When we hit the 2 year mark in January, and if the Drs can't find anything "wrong" with me, I think we're going to give up. Thank you for acknowledging us strugglers in the beginning of the video. When she talked about those panicky sobs, I really felt that. I had my gallbladder removed, but before that I was sick for about six months with no idea what was wrong. I was trying to work and go to school and ended up failing two classes and nearly losing my job. The first time I got sick after that, it was just regular food poisoning. I knew it wasn’t anything serious, my fiancé had eaten the food too and was feeling the same way, but it was the scariest thing in the whole world. I had those panicky sobs, all throughout that 24 hours. I was terrified it was coming back, that it hadn’t been fixed, that I wouldn’t be able to work or go to school, that we were going to lose our house. All over a bad dinner! All that to say I’m glad it’s not just me, I hope we can at least find some solidarity. ❤️

it's something i'm so terrified about. my mum was incredibly sick all through her pregnancies with me and my sister, she ended up having to terminate her third pregnancy because she was about to be hospitalised because of it and she just couldn't face it, not least with two toddlers to take care of. I'm worried there may be some kind of genetic predisposition in my family on both sides, since the same thing happened to my grandma on the other side and then her uterus failed D:

Yup definitely, the stuff about needing a medicalized pregnancy & illness past experiences impact is really valuable. Being told you miss all the nice cosy place, with less stuff. Why high risk births get less comfort & holistic stuff is a question right?! A specific video on all this pregnant spoonie stuff would be so awesome (if Hannah has energy!) and such unmet need. Finding symptoms hard because it reminded H of being really ill, bless you! The chronic illness aspect is really so helpful, so little content on this. Hooray for making it to Ireland - give yourself credit for spoonie skills at play recognizing that was a good thing to push through and GO versus impact of not going. Re folic acid I've been told I'd need to take 5mg from 3 month before. No mention it might be all through preg! It's kinda rubbish they didn't tell you this when you have been trying for a yr though, you had app about preg in your condition. Something to feedback to your GI team? They need to get better with letting us spoonies with uteruses know these things. My guess is gastro didn't know but they should know to ask O&G!

Becoming sicker as a I've gotten further into my twenties has only added to my pre-existing pregnancy phobia when it comes to my own body, but that doesn't stop me from being so overjoyed for you and Dan!! Watching other chronically ill humans do amazing things with their lives is just so encouraging, and you've been so vulnerable with us, I appreciate you so much 🥰

There should be more understanding. I ended up telling my boss earlier than I wanted and that helped, but not ideal!

I watched this video when it first came out and I've come back to watch it now that I'm nearly 9 weeks pregnant and in the thick of pregnancy sickness and fatigue. I'm so glad because I can relate to almost every single thing you've said and it's making me feel so valid 😢 we were trying for what felt like a really long time (although 8 months is really not that long) and got pregnant an unexpected month too and I feel like part of the reason was because I didn't expect it to happen so I stopped stressing about it. Early on I was wishing for more symptoms and then the symptoms got so bad I just wished I wasn't even pregnant anymore 😪 I cried so much because it felt never ending. It was so isolating. The illness made me feel so anxious and I couldn't accept that I was ill for a good reason because it was too early to be secure in the pregnancy. I also cannot work properly or help out much around the house, and it feels like I'm being pathetic because we don't usually see this part of other peoples pregnancies!!! Thankyou for documenting this and sharing for other people going through it... I have 3 weeks 1 day until I'm done with 1st trimester then hopefully it's up hill from there 😢

Watching you cry broke this lil spoonie’s heart. I’ve never been pregnant, but I can definitely relate to the heightened emotions and feelings you’ve expressed here. I have an emotional dysregulation disorder and am very sensitive to my hormones also. What you said about not being able to reconcile feeling ill for good reason vs feeling ill because your body is attacking itself really resonated with me, being chronically ill too. Anyway, I’m so happy that you’re pregnant and doing better now. I think you’ll be a great mum!

I had emergency surgery in February, ending up with a stoma and found your own stoma journey so helpful and informative at a time where things were new and uncertain. Congratualtions! It would be interesting to see you talk to Mama Dr. Jones again, to talk about the medical complications that are common/uncommon etc. And maybe she can help you understand why you need the blood thinners (if you need them) and stuff like that. Too many people think of pregnancy as low risk in general because it is 'natural', when in fact it is super risky even for 100% healthy people.

Regarding your question how people with "normal" jobs do it if they feel really bad: At least here in Germany, you will get a doctors note to get off work, in extreme cases even through your whole pregnancy. And if you don't want to, your boss doesn't have to know (at least in the beginning). But I just can't fathom how people for example in America do it, where this topic can be waaay trickier

With my first child it took a while to get pregnant. Because there is a history of early (in 30’s ) menopause, and I was over 30 I was convinced I’d missed my chance. When I found out I was pregnant I cried, laughed and had the biggest emotional reaction I’ve ever had. Then I took like 20 pregnancy tests over the next couple days. I couldn’t concentrate to save my life. Congratulations I related to this journey so much!

Congratulations!! 🤍🥳 My husband and I had our first daughter by withdrawal lol It is not fool proof lol Also, don’t worry about you drinking alcohol during the TWW. The egg, even though it may have implanted is not getting nutrients from you and until the placenta is developed and attached, the embryo uses the egg yolk as nutrients 🤍 Hope that makes you feel better about the drinking! PS. This isn’t encouraging anyone to drink during their TWW or pregnancy, just reassuring that it’s okay.

Oh man, this vlog hit home so hard! I am a chronically ill gal who also had a ROUGH first trimester. I didn’t click that my brain was equating first trimester awfulness with being sick rather than being pregnant, and that makes SO MUCH SENSE. I am in my third trimester now and I tell ya what, it gets a looooot better. Second trimester got nice for me around 17ish weeks? Congratulations Hannah (and Dan)! I'd be interested to hear your thoughts and a more general discussion on whether to tell or not tell people that you're pregnant before 12 weeks - eg. Does it offer much needed protection to expectant parents, and/or is it a 'social norm' not to share that prevents women from getting the support they might need if they have a bad experience? (I don't know if it is a 'societal norm' actually, is it recommended by medical practitioners?! I'm assuming it's a very personal choice either way?) Much love to you both (three!!) xx

My old supervisor had to tell ppl at work at 10 weeks because she was already showing, I saw her when she was 6 months pregnant, and she looked almost ready to pop. I had a colleague who told everyone at work at 6-7 weeks, because there was just so much drama going on. She was supposed to be re-starting ivf using the donor her deceased husband had selected, but she fell pregnant before re-starting ivf, and she lived on the same property as her deceased husbands parents.. she was public at work, but not in all social circles

Just do it who cares if someone says not to it's your pregnancy and someones opinion shouldn't get in the way of how or when you celebrate. I heard someone say that if they had a miscarriage it shouldn't matter that life should of still been celebrated.
@adi_bd
@adi_bd 2 года назад
It's mostly due to the high percentage of miscarriages (that decreases greatly once out of the 1st trimester) Lots of people do tell their close cycles once they've seen a heartbeat (can be seen as early as 5-7 weeks!) The avoidance of telling other people is mostly since if something did go wrong, since these are people you see less often, they might not be updated at that time and so you'd have to re-live the pain in order to update them. But it's a very personal choice - different people take different approaches

27:40 That's interesting! I have a friend who went through chemo and she said that the worst part about it was when they flushed the port with saline because she could taste the salt from inside her tongue. Because blood volume increases in early pregnancy, maybe the bad, metallic taste is you tasting your own blood? (Our senses are relative, so the reason we don't always taste our own blood is because the brain sorts that out.)

Congratulations Hannah and Dan! I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned it but your first pregnancy tests where you said you had a faint second line were actually EXTREMELY positive! That super dark line was the test line and the faint one was the control. Those tests were so positive that the test line was "stealing dye" from the control. When I got pregnant with Ada I had also been meticulously tracking (ovulation tests and BBT) and got my first faint positive test at 9 days post ovulation and by day 17 the lines were super dark like that!

Yeah, a full week I felt like I was cramping like my days are coming usually I feel it one or two days (warning cramps) Mother Nature is coming So I was like huh ok I’m not pregnant (We were actually trying, husband and I, first month trying ) I was never on birth control and stuff so this was actually our first time going on free. Feeling these cramps I was like huh ok 😅 not to fee sad let’s say more time to have fun fun 😊 Random times of the days I have been feeling a sharp pull or pinch pain inside there and am like Ok mother nature has not come so for the whole first day that mother nature was missed to the 4th missed day One to 4 days I took double pregnancy tests and all of them said positive I had done different brand test I did it just for the sake of it not being a chemical pregnancy Seeing my husband’s reaction it’s something I don’t want this to be fake I want it to be real Everyday he really doing everything just for us to keep our poppy seed healthy and alive Success to pass our first trimester. I have never miscarriage but watching all these youtube videos made me feel more aware that we have a chance of losing it So prayers we successfully go by well. Am currently 4 weeks, 6 days pregnant And so far no nausea, nothing with the breasts, random gas yes and burps 😬 but somehow my right foot started hurting like a nerve was touched randomly and other days like now my right top jaw towards my ear hurts Ugh wondering if this is part of pregnancy Never had these before as a regular And random fatigues even when not doing anything It’s so weird. 😂
