I left home around 5:30AM, took plenty of breaks while driving this distance for the first time, and arrived around 1:30PM in Yeppoon. I rolled into town and looked for the beach; I stumbled onto Cooee Bay - a small sandy bay edged with silt-covered rocks and boulders. I was blessed to arrived as the tide was receding, though the wind became more and more fierce as the day dragged on.
I loved finding all of the nerites at this beach... yes, I am an unrepentant nerite enthusiast! But most of all, I think I was most surprised by the sundials and the big dupe shell!! WOW! I had a great two hours here before I had to leave. I'm not sure if or when I'd ever some back (the Yeppoon beach that I visited on the next day was more interesting) but I am so, so glad that I stopped here this day. Thanks for watching!!!
Let me know which ones were your favourites ;D and if you enjoyed this and want to see more shell finding videos, I'd appreciate a like or a comment. I read all of them and try to reply when I can. You have no idea how much of a smile you guys put on my face. Thanks everyone!

Love the sundial and the toad drupe. It’s always fun to shell somewhere new ☀️🐚😁. I also love how thick and chunky the nerites are. So solid. Have a fantastic weekend Maddie☀️☀️☀️🫶🏻

G'day Mary Ann 👋🏻🏖️ I think you chose the best of the new shells with those two; they were terrific last minute finds for me 🤩 ahhh I'm glad that you liked the Nerites too; they're such an underrated shell species (zero of them at the shell show to see or to buy) so I almost think that I'm alone in liking them 😅 but I'm fine with that! Thank you so much for watching 🥰 and did you change your cat profile picture to be another picture of your cats?? So cute, I approve!!

G'day Green Thumb Gardener 👋🏻☘️❤️ The huge Bladder Moon was a very nice surprise 😁 I had found only very broken and old ones until then, so seeing a basically perfect, huge, and unoccupied one was wonderful! I wonder how much bigger then can get?? I have some Shark eyes from the USA that are massive, so I wonder if a giant one is possible for my Bladder Moon Snails too?? Anyhoo! Thank you so much for watching 🥰

Hi Maddie 👋🏼 Loving all of the different shells you’re finding at this new location! The Partridge Sundial is a favorite today. Nice design and colors. 😍 The Chestnut Drupes are beautiful 🤩 Because, of course they are Drupes! The Smooth Moon Turban is another Stunner! Looks like a Moon Snail and a Turban had a child 😂 I think my absolute favorite today is the Toad Drupe! How unique is that one?!?!? The acid dip really made the shell come back to life!! 😮 Thanks for another great adventure and a new beach to explore! Safe travels my friend! TTFN 👋🏼 ❤

G'day Mimi 👋🏻💖 This new location really has a lot of different shells 🤩 I mean, the distances between this beach and the home beaches is a lot, so it makes sense, but it's still exciting!! The Partridge Sundial is an absolute knock out; I found some more on my next Yeppoon beach too, but not as nice as this one ❤️ The drupes were really lovely from here; similar to some of the home beach ones, but I think that Toad Drupe was even chunkier! The acid drip really made a BIIIIG different! Oh, you know, that's a good way to describe the Smooth Moon Turban!! I wish I had found more of them, I think they're a great new shell 🐚😃 Thanks for watching, Mimi 🥰

That was such a fun adventure!!! ❤ I loved all the nerites. The color 🎨 variations were awesome. Oh what I would give to go shell hunting with you! 🥰 My favorite today was the limpet. 🗻 I’m so happy you took it. My second favorite was the toad 🐸 drupe. Love that you showed dipping it. I’m excited that you found olives 🫒 and sundials ☀️ too. Like I said, a very exciting adventure! Thank you Maddie! 🥰🥰🥰

G'day Pam 👋🏻💖 Those Nerites were so much fun to see! I knew that they could be different colours like this, but it was still exciting to collect some very different colours amount the same species. I wish that the shell show had a Nerite display; alas, it did not, and none for sale either...such an overlooked shell family!! I wish you were out there with me; I ran into a lady from Utah at this beach (she was on holiday with her husband) and seemed to be enjoying the hunt for shells too! Anyways! The Limpet was interesting, and I'm glad that I took it as well. The underside was surprisingly nice, but I mostly grabbed it to have a little more variety from this place 🐚🐌😂 I know I've said it before, but the next (and last) Yeppoon beach was more varied...though it didnt have any more Polished Nerites, Limpets, or Toad Drupes to find 😅 I'm soooo glad that I found on unoccupied Toad Drupe before needing to leave!! So glad that I dipped it in acid to show everyone; it was a really fun result! Thank you so, so much for watching this adventure at a little beach today 🥰

G'day Selena 👋🏻💖 Oh yes, there are a lot of Cockle shells on the shore at this beach in Yeppoon! I think Hervey Bay sometimes has more, though! The little olive shells were really lovely; I have only ever found one olive shell at my home beach; they are really rare there, but less rare in other parts of Australia 🌏. Oh, I'm curious now: what is your favourite type of sea shell? As always Selena, thank you so much for watching 🥰

G'day Erin 👋🏻💖 It was quite exciting to see the new shells like this; especially the two drupe Drupe species. Actually, there was the odd few cowries that were very old and worn away...needless to say, I wasn't impressed 😂!! But generally, there wasn't many to cowries to see while I was shelling on those two afternoons...the Keppel Bay area itself has a lot of cowries that doesn't quite wash ashore in the places I was looking, and those ones are stunning. G'day Melissa 👋🏻💖 I do love shelling at a new beach...though sometimes I go to a new beach and there aren't any shells there!! You never know where the shells will be sometimes; they seem to favour some places, while skipping over others 😅 Ohh that last Sundial was a really nice find; it was my best from my entire time at Yeppoon! The olive shells were really wonderful; I just don't find olives like you do 😲 Ohhhh so you got a super nice Lettered Olive the other day!! Those piles of mini and micros would be my downfall, i wouldn't be able to leave. I like scooping up piles of them and sifting through finding little gems (shells). I brought some gritty sand home from Florida and purchased a cheap microscope thing and found some very unique shells. Great job as always Maddie.

G'day Jeff 👋🏻🏖️ Hahaha, you'd have quite a collection of minis by the time the sun set! Oh wow, maybe you'd even discover some new, undescribed species with your microscope! I feel like I watched a story about a man doing just that...it was part of a compilation of sea snail stories that was put together some kind of institute in the USA. Ahhh I forget what it was now! Anyways, your story reminded me of it 😉 Thanks for watching 🥰

G'day Danielle 👋🏻🐚 I think Yeppoon's beaches are hit or miss depending one which ones you visit. I visited one with basically nothing except the beautiful views of the mountainous cliffs, and I hit the jackpot on another that was just a few minutes down the road. This one at Cooee Bay...I think, depending on the various conditions, that it could either be empty if shells, or have the scattering of minis like it did this day. I feel like this beach in particular isn't picked over often...or maybe people just don't care much for Nerites 😅 Thanks for watching 🥰

High Maddie Beautiful shells 😍 another very interesting shore , incredibly rich of small jewels , I think the polish nerita, is the variety or subspecies Nerita polita antiquata , coz the red mouth is not found in the more common Nerita polita. Anyway, it comes out that you have a fantastic rich Marin fauna in Queensland , I go crazy looking your videos 😂😂😂 bravo Maddie ❤
@SandCoffeeRocks
@SandCoffeeRocks 11 дней назад
G’day Francesco 👋🏻🐌 It was really interesting to visit this bay with so many Nerites! Ohhh, wait, is the red mouth really only found on the antiquata subspecies?? I thought this was just a fresher and less faded shell 🐚 You must be right though; some pictures on the internet have Nerita polita with no colour, but some have yellow or red 🤔 I didn’t realise that the variance had its own name for the subspecies. Very cool, thank you for letting me know 🤩 Ahhhh Francesco, I’m not even finding the really amazing shells; there are BIG Lambis lambis to find up in northern Queensland, as well as different types of stombus and tonna. I will hopefully go there someday but it’s very far to drive 🏝️ Thanks for watching 🥰

High Maddie , about Nerita polita , what I can say for sure is , I have not found that vivid orange-red mouth in Seychelles and Zanzibar, but just a yellow stain, and this on hundreds of fresh shells . ( In Seychelles they're so abundant that you can find it served in the restaurants ) i cant wait you to visit those more northern beaches 😍 always compliments , just loveable ,👋❤️
@SandCoffeeRocks
@SandCoffeeRocks 7 дней назад
Hey Francesco! I only just saw this. Wow, so the Polished Nerites are not so vivid in the main species? So interesting to know conclusively about this sub-species, thank you again for teaching me. Incredible, so these snails are eaten in Seychells? I know that a lot of countries eat snails and molluscs, but I thought it was mostly clams, bonnets, cowries, abalones, conches... I didn't think the small nerites would be enough of a meal! Very interesting, you have taught me something new once again!

@@SandCoffeeRocks High Maddie 👋 There's a third sub species of Nerita polita, (Nerita polita form rumphii) Recluz, 1841. inhabits the shores of the China sea for sure, it's usually smaller, frequently on the gray- black it can have spiral bandage of contrasting colours 👌 Bye Maddie 👋 Always compliments 😍❤️❤️❤️Francesco

Actually, a man at the shell show was telling me about a similar species that looked like Propeller Arcs, but were slightly rounder instead of rectangular 😲 maybe I'll find some in the future! As for the distance between Hervey Bay and Yeppoon, it's around four to five hours north by car at mostly highway speeds! From my home on the Sunshine Coast, the trip to Hervey Bay is about two and a half to three hours away, with Yeppoon being around 7 hours or so without rest stops. It definitely eats up a day!
