Hi everyone, I'm Maddie. I like to go to the beach and look for seashells. It's so exciting to walk along the sand and find these beautiful treasures hidden between the coffee rocks. Join me to see what interesting things I'll find next in Queensland, Australia.

Love all the scallops! They are my fav for craft projects. The long tailed spindle was really gorgeous. I love the Murex shells too. They seem so fragile but must be tough to survive all that tossing around! The baby bailor was very pretty. I loved the trash scallop with all the stuff in it! It reminds me of an old lady’s purse! 😂(mine) worn, tons of interesting stuff in it and still kicking! That’s my fav! I also really liked the combined worm snails at the beginning of the mangroves and that first piece of coral as well. The Wentel traps are amazing today!

I'm glad I found a few favourite this time, I think you picked well with the bonnet and cowries 😲 Ohhh someone else was mentioned that too; I don't often show the scenery 😅 Phew, I'm happy I took the time to do it on this occasion; it added a story element to the episode? G'day Nati 👋🏻🏖️ Oh trust me, Australian land snails can still get a little bigger than these medium sized ones!! Ahhh alas no; I don't sell any shells for various reasons 😅 I'll let everyone know if that ever changes, as a few people have expressed interest. If you'd like, I can recommend some Australian shell sellers (they ship internationally) that you might like to try?

If they have critters inside the shells, are you allowed to take them to keep as pets? Some laws in QLD are very strict about that but it would be cool if you could
@SandCoffeeRocks
@SandCoffeeRocks 2 дня назад
G’day Salty Yurio 👋🏻🐚 That’s an interesting question, and, like you expect, the answer isn’t without complications. To my knowledge, you are allowed to take a limited number of some live creatures from some beaches around Queensland; those beaches cannot be in marine national parks (like many areas around the Great Barrier Reef, Great Sandy Straight, etc), conservation areas, and specific no gastropod collection zones (like the Moreton Bay region). Other states have similar laws, with WA being more strict in some areas, and NT possibly being no collection at all. So technically, you can take home some live creatures from locations that aren’t against the law in QLD, however I would urge you not to do so unless you have a fully equipped home for them and are knowledgeable about how to care for these creatures. They need a salt water tank/environment (yes, even the hermit crabs; they have different needs than the mostly sand-bound ones that used to be in the pet stores) as well as food that conforms to their diet. Cowries eat algae on the rocks, crabs eat whatever they can, and nudibranches eat tiny nutrients that come in on the tides. Other snails are predatory and eat other molluscs. I think any of these creatures would be extremely difficult to care for; there aren’t really any aquarium instructions for them, and if I recall correctly, even the hermit crabs from the pet store were notoriously difficult to look after properly. While hermit crabs are hardy, they have needs that might not be easily fulfilled without expert knowledge and experience. So, while it might be a fun idea to get a free pet from the beach, I caution you about the time, effort, and cost that will go towards caring for these creatures. Thank you for this thought provoking question 🤔😉

Hey Ari 👋🏻🐚 Ahhh it's a combination of things; mostly the time they take to make, but also the fact that most of the shells with hairy/brown periostracum on them are all Hairy Triton shells, so it might be too much like making the same Short over and over? I don't know if people would continue to like it 🤔 but I do have some Hairy Tritons that I need to clean, so maybe I should make a few more Shorts for them. Thanks for watching 🥰

G'day Disco DJ 👋🏻🐚 Ohhh that's called a "Super Thanks" and it's a donation that this person made to me (Yohanna is extremely generous!!) and it highlights their comment. It also encourages the person who made the video (me) to respond to the comment...I try to respond to every comment, but I understand that some channels with millions of subscribers wouldn't be able to reply to each and every one. As for your question, it's a Super Thanks, and clicking on it might have prompted RU-vid to see if you also wanted to make a Super Thanks comment of some kind. I'm glad it didn't charge your account as you didn't send it or intend to send one 😉 I don't ask for Super Thanks (just a like 😁 or a sub if you want to see more) because people are here to be entertained, and not to open the purse strings. I am very grateful if someone does though! I'm grateful for every comment too, thank you for spending your time to leave one 🤩 and thanks for watching 🥰 (edited for typos)
