In 524 BC, a force of 50,000 Persian soldiers travelled across the Western Desert of Egypt. Their intended target was The Oracle of Amun, however the army would not make it. They would instead disappear in a sandstorm, in a legend that still draws curiosity today.

That dramatisation of the man dropping the water jug is so...accurate. That was how I found a man in the Grand Canyon when my son and I took a "short hike" . there was a heat wave, and this man had hiked from the bottom that day. I found his water bottle first. I found him lying by the trail next. I got some water in him and walked with him up to the rim. He was the one of three parties my son and I met who had been badly affected by the extreme heat. The brain shuts down fast when it gets too hot.

I think they're on to something. The artifacts convinced me. I think the army got scattered around but I think most of them will be within a few miles of that spot. I think this because of how other groups of people have perished in deserts or mountains. Usually the bulk of them die off within the same day and others are weak so they wouldn't make it far from the spot where the major die off happened. Now, Im just an amateur at studying these thing but they have more than just a skull in the desert. They have historical records to track the path of the army. They were on that path when they found artifacts and remains. They mentioned that it could be a burial site... Okay but there is no evidence that any other groups have come to that area. Why would there be a burial site there, when there are no towns or trade routes near there? Until I saw something to suggest otherwise, I would stay on that track. They just need more evidence and a bigger team but I think they have enough to justify a proper expedition for sure.

Having watched the Netflix series "Alexander" I am now an expert on this. So, Persia eventually extended from Easter Afghanistan to Siwa Oasis and from where Istanbul is to where Pakistan now stands. Babylon (now Bagdad) is in Iraq. The idea of going over there and seeing who you could beat up and steal stuff from has long been a past time of men. The Siwa Oasis was an outpost of resistance, and a mythological link with the pharoic empire.

Correct; always ready to pause a doubt on anything from a foreigner as though they couldn’t possibly be right about anything. They will postulate other possibilities to cheapen your theory. Then they will say it could be any other speculation or idea to weaken even further. Once they’ve erased your theory down to near nothing then they feel they’ve got you where they want you, near nothing because only they could have the answer. Oh but they’ll take your theory add to it and make it their own then take the glory for themselves and for their country. Dr. Hawass is a genius at doing this and many have learned from him this strategy.

That must have been a miserable trip, The know-it-all woman who doubts the knowledge of the bedouin guide and because she brushes some grains of sand away from a bone, suddenly thinks her doubts are validated. Then there's the guy who wants so badly to find the army that he's seeing any bone as proof. Then there's the geologist who found the items in the first place, claiming to have found vast quantities of bones that fail to turn up when these idiots arrive. The only guy who sounds reasonable is the guy from Egyptian Antiquities who said that "out of context" items can really be anything at all, even Persian and still mean nothing. Finally, the idiots travel all the way to this remote spot, yet somehow forgot to bring a metal detector that would allow them to find bronze weapons.

i don't know how well logic would work on something like this, but in my brain i see taking the last known location and the place where they were supposed to end up, draw a line, but then go off to the left/right for water along the way, and around ½ way (isn't that what they said?) start looking for a place where, at that period in history, a route/road would've led them to an oasis or whatever it was supposed to be, and start looking in an area or radius from that ½ way point. medal detectors and other aids might help. also, is there a way to look at the sands of a desert and tell that stuff lies beneath?
