the end results look good. I do cabinets and painting for a living. We prefer BIN Shellac as a primer on woods to block tannins over cover stain. I would suggest in the future trying a smaller needle on the primer and paint, lowering the pressure a bit and narrowing the width down a lot. looks like youre spraying way too wide and heavy with that paint, on camera it looks like 8-10 inches wide on a 2 inch wide pieces of wood. A lot of splatter as well which may be due to too high of a pressure, or too much thinning. FPoE doesn't need thinning. Not much you could have done with the dust as you addressed in the video unless you get a dust extractor. With high gloss everything shows, it's hard work. Perhaps wood filling the mitered corners to remove seeing that in the future. Otherwise great results for someone trying that out for the first time.
Great job! I’ve been getting tired of the red bondo glazing putty lately. It shrinks too much. Two part bondo is better. This guy who runs a collision repair center told me to try UPOL Dolphin Glazing Putty instead. Dries super fast and hard and it will not shrink and sands to a powder. Honestly I’ve given up on scuffing with 220grit it takes too long and I don’t think it gives the surface enough bite for the paint to adhere to. I’ve been using 120, 150 and 180 grit. Even after the first coat of primer I’m still using 180 grit for my topcoats. If you’re concerned about the lacquer drying too fast just add more lacquer thinner! Or better yet some acetone and MEK. 90% MEK and 10% acetone for the thinner mix. It helps put on a heavier coat of lacquer without getting runs. I can’t stand the dry time for oil based products. Dust is a massive problem and I need speed cause time is money!
