A shave with American Blend shaving soap from FINE ACCOUTREMENTS. This is the original formula which I was able to get as a closeout item on their website. I hope to get the new version of American Blend which uses their new 21st Century soap base.

This is fine's rendition of barbasol. Perfect match of the scent, imo, only thankfully, more pronounced. Paa Cad is a great rendition as well but I feel like they take some artistic license and make it a warmer scent, for better or for worse. I love both and plan to restock each when they run out.

Rich, I love the scent of this Fine shave soap.:) I'll have to do a side by side because it caught my nose as being rather distinct.:) I appreciate the heads up.:)

@@MarkSzorady I didn't realize it at first, either. Probably because the scent strength in Barbasol is so subtle. I don't remember if it eventually dawned on me (prob not) or if I saw it mentioned online but I do recall comparing the scent notes online of CAD (which PAA acknowledges is their take on Barbasol) and American blend and the notes are identical. Also if you look at your tube of Barbasol 1919 cream vs the Fine shave soap tub you'll notice that the color scheme is the same so that's probably a nod to the big "B."

Great shave with the old Fine soap, now I would classify an unobtainium, pity the based was changed to a soft soap but it needed some modernisation to keep up with other Artisan soap bases. Take care Mark.

Great shave Mark, so glad you got the old american blend and loved it...you have to get the matching American Blend aftershave splash!!!!!,,,,so gooood also! (you need to review new formula) stay safe.

Hey, Mark-----Greetings from New York City-----------I've tried several shave creams, soaps and after shaves from Fine, and my favorites (in no order) are American Blend, Green Vetiver, Sandalwood & Platinum------I pair the shaving product with same-scent after shave-----Any one of them can become an everyday favorite.

Hey Mark. Fine shaving soap IMO is a good soap. I have a few of the older scents and find them easy to use, just a different lathering technique. I noticed that the price is now somewhat higher on their soaps. I’m all about KISS mentally. Enjoy your weekend.

Thaks, Massimo.:) I enjoyed using the soap and yes, the Green Ray is a terrific brush.:) I believe this is the same brush that comes in all of PAA's shaving starter kits.:)

I hear it is. I cannot remember if it was available at the the time I bought the soap. But, for some reason which I cannot remember, I picked up the Platinum balm instead.

Hi Mark Great video again. I have a few questions that has nothing to do with shaving but all about the ivideo itself how do you film by phone? If yes do you use any special app? If no what do you use for hardware and software then? . I am thinking about making some video's myself to. I am thinking about starting a Channel in Dutch. Wonderful shave Mark!!! I love Fine Shave soap, but of course their old soap pucks. I bought 3 of each of their pucks when I heard that they were going out of stock, so I have plenty to last a while. My favorite scent of all of them, oddly enough, is their Italian Citrus. Paired with the matching aftershave, it’s arguably one of the best morning shaves in the business in my eyes. Hi, NY Diesel in Fl. Thanks for mentioning the Italian Citrus. I'll put that on my list.:) I really liked the Barbershop scent, so I'd imagine IC would be another very nice distinct scent, as well.:)

@@MarkSzorady oh absolutely!! Barbershop is a must own as well, as it is a great take on one, especially from what I can remember as a child. The Platinum scent is their take on the ever popular Creed Aventus, and it’s a good scent too. Santa Noir is very hard to find now, but it’s basically Sandalwood. Lavender is wonderful, and the two Verviers are great too, but the Green Vetiver is much stronger if you’re into vetiver. And of course if you really want to wake up, there is Snake Bite, with has a faint fresh scent, but is super mentholated, and the aftershave is arguably one of the chilliest out there. There’s another orange one out there, and of course Aquamarine, and the new ones that just came out, but I haven’t tried those, but any of the ones I mentioned, definitely tried and approved!

Its inspiration is YSL Rive Gauche not Barbasol. Those triple milled hard pucks were fantastic. Too bad Fine lost their manufacturer.

Joe, yes. After adding the soap to my cart, the Platinum balm popped up. I decided to give it a try based on the information provided. Additionally, as I recall, it came with a discount. I guess, at that time, they were promoting its sale. Had the discount not come up, I probably would've navigated over to get the AB splash.:)

Nice review. So many soaps. So little room. Too bad all soap manufacturers don't offer sample sizes. I'll just have to be happy with the dozen or so soaps that I have 😊
