⚙️ SHOW NOTES - EPISODE #187: This Epic Adventure has us stopping in for a visit with Richard Hummel, founder and CEO of Woodpeckers, a fine tool making company in Strongsville, OH. It was a great time with a great guy. I learned some really cool things about how precision tools are made. It's inspiring to see - Richard really knows what he's doing, and he’s all the more invested because he was, and still is, a woodworker himself before he started making tools.

This video helped me understand why their tools are so expensive, why the ones I own work so well, and why I will continue to buy their products.

Woodpecker should be doing these tours more often. As a w/w we sometimes gripe about the price of Woodpecker tools, but it is obvious they have spent a great deal of money to put out their products. I have so many of their tools - some I do not need - and all of them are top notch and work flawlessly. You cannot say that about many other brands. Love Blue Spruce tools also.

Great tour, by a guy who is so real about his love for woodworking and his mission to produce as close to absolutely accurate tools as possible. Thank you, Tom & Richard.

Woodpackers are go! Great stuff, never really knew much about this company other than seeing their ads in the magazines. Mr. Hummel is humble, professional, passionate - all the qualities that you want to see behind such endeavor. Even though these tools are e x p e n s i v e, I do know where the next square is coming from...

I have a great appreciation for Woodpeckers tools and buy them when I can. Very few things these days are American made and I don’t mind paying a premium knowing I’m supporting a local business. It doesn’t hurt they make incredibly accurate tools either.

The Blue Spruce chisels are no joke. Well worth the money. Not only are the backs flatter than you could ever possibly get them yourself, the actual geometry of the blades is exceptional. By far the best chisels on the market IMHO, but I admit I’m slightly nervous to screw up the backs when I sharpen them
@EpicWoodworking

It was my first time seeing how mirror polished they prepped the backs, the first I’ve ever seen like that! 👍😎

It seems a wonder that previous generations of woodworkers were actually able to make anything square and true since they didn’t have the stress relived, mirror shine tools available to some now.

Every h8ter who whines about the price of Woodpeckers' tools should watch this video and contemplate the amount of money invested in machinery, technology, facilities, and the skilled people who design, make, and test the products. The h8ters want high quality for ultra-low prices, but they're not living in the real world.

Should of asked to lower the prices on his tools
@EpicWoodworking
@EpicWoodworking 11 месяцев назад
Yeah, if I did I can imagine he’d say the only way would be to lower his costs somehow…meaning less quality of materials and the end product. It’s like asking Lie Nielsen to lower the prices on their tools. Some things are just better and the price reflects it. 👍 Thanks for watching!

@@EpicWoodworking i understand that, but that might be an excuse to jack up prices
@EpicWoodworking
@EpicWoodworking 11 месяцев назад
@@rossanctuary5238 maybe, but given what I saw on the tour, a lot of expense has gone into getting set up for making the tools, and he’s not outsourcing anything to China like so many similar companies these days.
