Well, the soul swing smacks of the 60's but since the song was released in the 80's that's the decade I personally associate the song with (and a GLORIOUS decade it was to live through, especially as a teenager or twenty-something).

My mum was going shopping in the 90s with my little sister in her pushchair and she was sat opposite roland gift on the train to hull. And later on in the 90s he went into a pub in the village where I lived and I had a drink with him amongst locals and he signed a bunch of records for the dj in the pub in north ferriby in the duke of Cumberland 😊

In about 1990, was out on the softball field with my buddies. Two vehicles backed into parking spots with trunks open and the radios blasting our favorite local FM. Good Thing came on and everyone dropped their bats and gloves, and the Groove Dance was on!! I'm sure that we looked like idiots out there, but no one quit dancing till the song had played. Heh. I now remember I met Roland Gift at a party in New York in 1991. Just a random party hosted by a friend of a friend. He was holding his baby when we met him, and my friend who took me with her asked him, "Oh, is that the fine infant cannibal?" Good times.
