Fingal's Cave is a sea cave on the island of Staffa in the Inner Hebrides. It is formed from hexagonally-jointed basalt columns similar to the Giant's Causeway in Ireland. The Giant's Causeway and Fingal's Cave were both formed by the same lava flow 60 million years ago. In Gaelic mythology Fionn mac Cumhaill, a giant, constructed a causeway from Ireland to Scotland out basalt colums. Fionn built it to allow a Scottish giant, Benandonner, come and fight him. After deceiving Benandonner and bighting off his finger of power Fionn chased him back to Scotland but Benandonner ran so hard the causewasy collapsed behind him. Fionn took a sod of earth, forming Lough Neagh, and threw it after Benandonner but it fell in the Irish sea to form the Isle of Man.

It's part of the ancient causeway that went all the way to Northern Ireland. Volcanic lava formation my ass. Do you think I came up the coast in a banana boat? It's the Giants Causeway.

As stated these columns also occur at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. There was much speculation in ancient times as to what their purpose was - stepping stones for Giants etc - but the reality of how they were formed, millions of years ago by a huge volcanic eruption, is much more interesting than the myths and legends which surround them. They are well worth a visit. If you are interested in golf and plan to come to Portrush to see the open in 2019; you will only be a stone's throw from the Causeway - it is well worth a visit:)

The Giant's Causeway can be found on the south west coast of Mull, it stretches from Ireland to Scotland or vice versa.

Um, I thought this was about a cave, you know, like INSIDE the cave, not romancing about the outside....so what does the inside look like? One can look at the outside all day but that only goes so far....

I used to be in the plant camp but am now a firm believer that this like other places are dead Giants.. Hard to be believe but so is a volcanic eruption pushed up the columns perfectly. Also these rock formations always appear where giants where said to live. All our real history is hidden from us. Devils tower is a def tree stump.😊.
@chrisscott6417
@chrisscott6417 4 года назад
@@Hughsemailsearch it looks more like a construct to me, made by someone and not by nature or volcanic eruption. Perhaps it was part of a bridge to Ireland. Perhaps giants built it. Official history is a bs.

@guydecervens
@guydecervens 8 лет назад
There is no problem at all getting inside Fingal's Cave. Take a boat cruise out there and you'll have plenty of time to inside and look at the columns. Don't worry about being American. It's the Sasanachs they hate in Scotland : )

+guydecervens If I'm correct this is the Jules Verne cave right and how big is it and is there a restriction going inside even if you can go inside? I wonder if anyone has ever found the center of the earth xD in the book I believe there's a certain way to actually see it unless that's just the Brendan Fraser version.
@guydecervens
@guydecervens 8 лет назад
@105588424741920009918 That's right Jules Verne used it as an inspiration for some of his work. The cave is about 60ft high and 200ft deep, although these dimensions vary depending on who measures it. You can walk inside but wear soft soled boots for the slippy rocks
