Fingerling Potato Comparison: Best Grower Revealed!
This season, we grew three different varieties of fingerling potatoes. Two of the varieties, Rose Finn Apple fingerling potatoes and Russian Banana fingerling potatoes were grown from Wood Prairie Family Farm organic seed potatoes. The third variety, a French fingerling potato, was grown from our previous season's harvest.

We have grown fingerling potatoes before, but in this potato experiment, we wanted to see which of these three varieties would yield the most potatoes, so in this organic potato harvest video provides the results of our first fingerling potato growing experiment.
One of the things we had reaffirmed in this potato harvest 2024 video is the importance of having high quality seed potatoes, like the ones we got from Wood Prairie.
We hope you enjoy this fingerling potato harvest video, and we hope you are excited for the many potato harvest we have coming your way over the next few weeks.
Thank you so much for watching this organic garden harvest video!

Thank you so much. I know the videos get a little on the long side when we do them this way, but I think it is worth it. :)

As far as finger link potatoes that I grew in my garden, I believe these potatoes tasted better than the ones in the stores. My reason is because I grew them and they are fresh. I don't know how long they have been sitting in the store as well as a grower potatoes storage area. The fresher the vegetables are and the better the vegetables taste. Delicious!. 😊

That's such a good point. Really, most of the time we don't even know where the produce at the store comes from (or how far away that is) and definitely we don't know how fresh it is. These potatoes are going to be awesome!

Great experiment. It was nice to see the comparison of the three different potatoes. I would plant both the Rose Fin Apple and the Banana Russian fingerling. Love your enthusiasm in your videos. ! 🥔🥔

All the varieties performed well, but they were definitely at the top in terms of yield. Now for the taste tests!

I believe the Russian banana fingerling is indeterminant and if fed and hilled will keep growing up to frost. I got much longer tubers from mine 4-6" after frost killed it in my zone 3 . I got about 10 lbs of harvest off about 1/2 lb seed, some kept long enough to replant this spring . this year they are still growing and still putting new flowers on too. I enjoy most of my harvests as much as eating it later too haha. Have a great day

Awesome harvest! Next year I'm going to put hardware cloth in the bottom and up the sides of my bins to try to sift the dirt out come harvest time. It might work. No idea what the insect is but I saw one a few days ago 😊
@GutenGardening
@GutenGardening 17 дней назад
I wish I could go back in time and put hardware cloth under all my raised beds as well. I will say, we have been incredibly fortunate with regard to pest damage this year, and I think you will see that in the upcoming harvest videos as well. :)

This was such an exciting video to watch! I’ve not had that much experience with fingerling potatoes, though I do like to eat them. To me, the appearance of the potato doesn’t matter so much as the taste!

I grew potatoes for the first time this year and like a real rookie I planted pole beans in with them.😅

Every year we learn new things. And trying new things is an important part of that. Some will be successful and others will be failures. Its all part of the journey.

Bush beans work well with them, but I could see how pole beans could be an issue, especially getting in there to harvest.
@GutenGardening
@GutenGardening 17 дней назад
Great comment! And it doesn't really matter how many years we do the work, we are still learning.
@OneMound1
@OneMound1 17 дней назад
@@GutenGardening well, it might sound kind of goofy, but I grew them in grow bags, intending to use them as seed potatoes for the start of next year. I’m kind of hopeful that because I’ve been keeping the bags watered because the beans are still growing, that the potatoes won’t rot down in there, and I can still harvest them in the fall when the beans are done.

If the peel is thin I don't care about uniformity. If I'm going to have to peel it, I don't want difficult angles. I'd love to now the soil mix in your containers.
@GutenGardening
@GutenGardening 17 дней назад
That is a great point as well! As to the mix in these containers, it is a mix of coco coir, native soil, compost and worm castings and a little vermiculite and perlite. :)

Anytime you have potatoes that are green and not edible you can save them sprout them for seed potatoes the next season .
