So glad you're building a guard for the top of the blade. I suggest that that it curves so that the materials keep rolling back over themselves, allowing you to keep pushing with the blade down and hopefully not have to stop, back up, and reset as much. Think of the curvature of the grader's blade.
i'm amazed at the difference of the first video when your making a road into the property to now. you have done well as usual,I love your channel chris 👍
When we see the aerials I am always amazed at the massive amount of work that has been accomplished in a short period of time. Beautiful property. So happy for the drone views. Guard on the D6 will be a good thing for you and me. Sometime I'm ducking when a 12 inch log is coming right at the camera. Have a good weekend with Dirt Perfect.
Me to! A guy I know his dad was pushing a pile one time and a long skinny tree jumped the blade and shot straight back and hit him in the chest and about shoved him up out of the seat and off the dozer, it liked to killed him! As he was pushing the pile the tree either spun around long ways or was already laying long ways and the top started loading up and bending against the ground but the stump/broke off end was at the top of the blade and it was fully spring loaded when it jumped the blade
hello Chris, the part of the video about laying out the house and garage and where to locate things was very interesting, and unlike many of the other videos on the www. digging the foundation and house grading for construction would be great to watch. I too enjoy the music when you fly the drone. Thanks for sharing.
More Burning Time - End of Tree and Brush Clearing - Dozer Time and House Layout sorted ! Making Progress and its Shaping Up Nice ! You had a very Busy 1/2 Day ! Making a Guard for the front of the Dozer - ordering Steel - it will make it more Safer and the Front of the Dozer does not get damaged - Good Thinking 99 as Maxwell Smart would say ! Brilliant Drone Fly Over ! The Loader Maintenance and Repairs are nearly Finished - starting the Beast Tomorrow ! We enjoyed the Video and many Cheers from us in Australia !!!!
So much wood left to get rid of! You’ve made the lot look great. About your brush guard, instead of making it part of the rake, maybe you could make it a separate piece with flanges that fit over the dozer blade and with longer pins connect it to the rake pins … it would be removable but you would need something to lift it into place. Good luck with it, does seem needed.
You are a good fire builder and maintainer. Awesome. Along with so many other skills, shooting elevations included. Appreciate how you talk us through your thoughts out-loud. Makes for a very interesting video to know your thoughts. But admit it must be a bit tough to keep that up. You da man!
Looking forward to you and DP getting together, that's going to be a hoot. It would be nice to see you grading out the house ready for it's construction and would be good for the owners to show them when finished. So may saplings, I think they take more time than the bigger trees.
Great drone footage. That’s a lot of trees you’ve removed Chris. I’m keen to see what sort of blade guard you come up with for the D6. Betty, Betty, Betty pull yourself together girl😊 Take care & cheers 🤦🏻♀️🦘🥰
It never ceases to amaze me how people will purchase a wooded lot/piece of land to build a home on and then cut and clear every living thing from said piece of land!!
I've been watching you struggle with those trees sliding over the blade and wondering when you would put a brush guard on the 6. I always install one on any dozer i have. Good idea.
I forgot to tell ya Chris, You ought to incorporate your "LD18 Logo" into the Clearing Guard your going to have made for the 6 !! Something like you did on the Off Road Truck, Think it would look pretty Bad Ass on the Ol' 6 !! Just a thought Man... Have a Great Sunday !!
Instead of making the guard vertical from the rake you can angle it forward making for better clearance of the radiator when back dragging, you can also consider mounting "forks" to lift the piles while pushing brush
You can angle the rake extension forward to help direct the material and gain clearance to the radiator Chris, or just build the extension on top of the blade itself.
When you said upper guard, I thought of slotted ibeams that you could set on the top of the blade vertically, maybe 4 of them that you could then slide a cross bar through to tie them together. That way you wouldn't have to modify the rake and still have the ease of installing it.
Back in the day (1970's), we used 3" schedule 40 pipe to weld a brush guard across the top of the blade 18" high on both the D6C and JD 750 dozers--used 3" schedule 40 pipe also for JD550 & JD450 dozers but 15" high.
Very much looking forward to the videos with DP Mike, cool thing is we get to watch your’s shortly then live in anticipation for 2 months to watch DP’s…
I remember the comment you made, at the Richie Brothers auction, about the D6 being around a lot longer, than most of the newer equipment... your machine is a testament to that fact, and there are ones out there even older, that'll probably still be running, 10 years after the stuff you were looking over at that auction, is in a scrap heap! 🧐 Another great training video, on how to do, what you do! 👏🏽 👍🏼☺
Hey Chris, nice job that's moving right along at letsdig18 fast pace as always when the master is at work. It'll be some peace of mind for you to get those important repairs done to the haul truck over the weekend. Have fun! That Dirt Perfect guy is a bit of a nut so you'll be laughing the whole time. See ya the next video.
A long time ago, I used to run an old Allis Chalmers HD16 with a brush rake. It was a dedicated blade with flat feet welded onto the bottom of the blade, and an upper works of 2" square bar stock welded into a mesh about three feet above the blade to keep the "stobs" from punching holes through the front of the tractor and the radiator, that you could still see through. What you are envisioning will work very well. Anything to keep the "ramming staffs" of tree trunks away from the front of the tractor and hydraulic lines. I've been wondering when you would think of it. Great video. Really enjoy your channel.
Great job Chris. I was just thinking you need a way to stop the branches coming over the blade to protect the dozer but let you use all of its pushing power. I look forward to seeing the new guard, and the track loader running again.
Yep a gard! Past few videos I have been hoping you would put one on!!! Cool!!! Make a lot of since! Make it separate from the rake!!! At some point, it will get in the way!
Love to see you work those piles with the D6!! Amazing how you can keep the pile together and readjust to make it to the end. Looking forward to the Dirt Perfect Showtime!!
Hard to put the size of the debris piles in perspective until you get the D6 behind one. Then I realize how much stuff you had to clear. Shaping up really nice.
Thank u so much for video! Very interesting. Sounds like house going to be large one. Will be interesting watching u dig basement. Loved the drone, u have accomplished great deal on this project. God's blessings and be careful.
Wow…still a lot to burn! Might be time to start a couple of more piles a blaze and make it all disappear real quick! More ash piles I know, but likely easier than pushing…until you get the new guard fabricated. The whole job looks amazing. Thanks for sharing Chris!
Hello Chris. Just a thought on the adding a brush guard to the D6, Have you considered putting the guard on top of the blade instead of the rake? If you put it on the blade the guard could be taller and the radiator and hard nose would be protected wether you had the rake on or not. Just a thought. Russ
I was actually wondering last night where your video was I even told a friend that I had not seen anything from you last night wow thank heaven I caught it this morning it looks great Chris you're doing one heck of a job can't say that I know who your new Robert is maybe you might do an interview with him so we can understand who he is thanks for the video and sharing as always great job
Chris if your going to add a top Rail to the Blade just make sure it is a Half circle to roll the logs that you push Forward that will stop any chance of hitting the Machine and give you some more safety just my way of thinking bud we have to keep you safe at all cost's. :)
Do you ever have any issues with epa and burning? Do they require burning permits where you are? Getting things cleared up our way seems to be increasingly difficult due to all the restrictions.
That’s about the thickest land I’ve seen you clear. I’d imagine that all those little trees Are a pain to remove. I was just thinking that you could use a 2 or 3 foot tall brush guard on top of your D6 rake. It would help keep the brush from getting stuck of your blade which will save you a lot of time.
Chris can you curve the raised part away slightly so that it will roll it over? I had been thinking of something similar but did not want it to come across as criticism.
Chris, I kinda figured hooking up the dozier's root rake was pretty easy for you, but I still haven't figured how you did it along( I'd like to see it please 😉), the area looks outstanding, never a doubt, I am glad you are putting a guard on the D6, will make it more efficient on you also, now if it could get a little removable enclosure ( just for cool or cold days). You have some of the most devoted friends and mechanics, "Anything for Chris", I bet they say.
Ha! I was thinking the D6 pushes so much a guard would help out a lot. Are you planning to attach it to the rake itself? Mounted permanently on the blade shouldn't hinder the regular operation, right?
Oh Yeah, Hell, You got it pretty much licked now Chris !! Looks really good out across there, Driveway laid in there nice too, looks nice !! Little digging, and grading left to do, and what?? 3-4 good days of burning and getting rid of the ashes, and you'll be out of there !! lolol... Great as always Man !! Have a Great Saturday Evening, And, On too the Next !!
