I've seen some people who cut open the interior side, to not have reflections and the view inside obscured. But you have my respect anyway, this model is a monster to master. Well done, sir.
I have seen that too, but I am quite risk averse when it comes to clear plastic. It is so brittle, and one can easily ruin the entire part. Thanks for the compliment :-)
Looks amazing. I've recently 3D printed a U-Boat and am using my new airbrush so lots of new to me techniques. Hoping it works out half as amazing as yours,.
Thank you so much Hedley! Practice on other items before you commit to the U-Boat. I remember the first time I tried an airbrush, and the first attempts were far from perfect. Good luck with your build!
Don’t know how I missed this video. Beautiful job on the model. I started mine but lost my modeling space so it’s on hold. Picked up the Eduard set but would really like to order the RCSubs PE sets and pressure hull ends. I’ve said it before, this kit is a prime example of design by committees. It’s exemplified by the clear starboard hull and port tower. Bravo Trumpeter. Great job just finishing it 👍
Thanks! It was fun, but also a big job, and as you point out, couple of design curve balls from Trumpeter. I also wanted the RCSubs set, but they didn't have anymore in stock for quite a while so then I just moved ahead without.
Nice result on this kit and nice video. I loved the lighting it brings it alive. I built the Revell 1:72 years ago and was expecting this to be bigger but that's probaly just the illusion of camera. Thanks
oh my gosh! this is so fucking amazing! the attention to detail is so incredible, and she looks so realistic and accurate! i want this kit now after seeing what you done with it! anazing job, kenneth!
@@NorwegianModellingBench It's not historically accurate. Judging by their raincoats and binoculars they are out at sea which means the flag would have long ago been stowed. Also, the periscopes and radio antenna would not be extended. If you want to be historically accurate you must remove the flag etc. Really nice work though :)
Really nicely done. The weathering is first rate. I have wanted to buy and build this kit for several years, but my skills are just not quite there yet. Maybe someday. Until then, I have your excellent video to view!
Lovely build and so nice to see it finished. I'm currently two months into mine and I'm adding the huge RC Subs etched set and full lighting also. As you say, the clear hull does distort the view slightly so I'm intending to cut away parts of the hull. Also planning a dockside diorama of the sub being replenished with supplies.
Thanks 🙏 I wanted that set, but he was out of stock at that point in time. You will definitely get a great model with that set. Sounds like you have a massive project ahead of you. Would love to see the end result. Good luck!
Hi, I am 80 % into my build, and the question I have is I noticed you did not leave the Conning Tower transparent to view its interior. Strangely, Trumpeter put the clear side of the conning tower on the PORT side while the hull clear is on the STARBOARD side, a really strange arrangement. Great Job with your build.
Thanks! That is correct. I were really surprised when I noticed that in the beginning of the build, so I decided not to leave it clear as I wanted one non-transparent side. I am not sure if this is a mistake on Trumpeters part, or if it is deliberate, either way I don't think it looks good. But it is our choice as builders to decide how we want to present our model. Good luck with the remaining 20% :)
Yeah, that was a really stupid decission on their part. REALLY STUPID. I'm doing like Kenneth did, and painting the tower also. I kinda pisses me off because I paid for all those parts and can't use them now.
@@NorwegianModellingBench Huge maybe but very nice to have - and the scale 1/50 Bismark model sited at the Marineehrendenkmal Laboe (Kiel) could also be nice- me and big brother has drawings for a 1-35 scale type 7 boat but has not build it yet
Thank you :-) Now that is a good question because this build contains so many fun parts to build. I think it has to be either the part where I installed the compartments into the hull or building the diesel engine.
Hello again one more question if I may, what did you use for the weights on the rigging? They look amazing but I can find no help online or clues on how to make them🤷🏻♂️ thank you
Very nice! Subbed. Just ordered mine, and I intend to use the MSM kit, I've used them a lot, but only for aircraft this will be my first boat. I do like the sound though! May I ask how long it took you to complete? I've got a free weekend coming up hahaha
Thanks and welcome to my channel! One weekend should be ample 😂 I guess it was around 4-6 months, some evenings and weekends. Good luck with the build!
If your in the states ZeddsDad send me a letter with ur contact info and address. I've got plenty of extras if ur interested deck gun, photo etch etc. Been on this build for a few yrs now and have the Eduard big set and deck gun. Also purchased the Pontos update kit. I am in Covington Ga just look up my name.
@@warrenchambers4819 hey thanks for the kind offer Warren, unfortunately I live in the UK. I’ve surprised myself with progress I’m nearly at completion of the first 2 forward sections
Are the clear and regular port and stbd panels the same? Can both be painted? Lets say one wanted to build this model as an RC, and the interior would be full of electronics and the exterior would be the important thing, is that possible with this kit
Hi Michael. As you can see I painted both sides of the coning tower panels and the panels for the hull. They are not the same, the starboard panel also has the deck. I guess it would be possible, but it will require a fair amount of work to get it water tight, and to create an opening to access the electronics. I would not use this model as a starting point for an RC model at least.
Sorry, but no I didn’t. As I mentioned in the video I used a combination of AK Interactive Naval weathering products and Vallejo paint. Thank you for the compliment!
Sadly the model from trumpeter is not very accurat on the inside. The bulcheads infront and aft of the comando central are curved not flad as in the modell. as well as the tanks under it.
That is usually the case with most models, so either you use it as a starting point, accept the flaws or scratch build. Based on the photos I have seen it is a fairly good representation.
