I remember the Jerry can test. I had two cans I walked with forward and then back to where I started. They were heavy even though I had strong triceps. I never dropped them even though I could feel my arm muscles burning. I didn't want to be shouted at for dropping them or made to do it again as it was hard enough walking fast with them as they hit your legs. But I did it. 👍🏻 I know what it's like. Well done you. 🙂🇬🇧.

Brilliant vid! I’ve applied for regular soldier (engineer) route and although it’s the regular route I think you’ve really helped me feel a bit more at ease with basic, AC etc so thank you! Also we did a trip to RAF Brize Norton with college where we sampled some mess food so I can’t 100% relate with the food remarks! 😅 Well Done on completing Basic and thank you for giving us all the videos!!

Love all your posts, Been keeping me updated on what to expect as I go through basic myself. Im off to MOD3 myself in March (and at Grantham) and looking forward to it even more after watching this and really nervous it would be hell. My MOD 2 was in Cardiff and that was fab so hoping Grantham is just as good. How many people did they let you have at pass out and what time did family have to get there?

I remember way back in the early 70s, my basic training ( yes im an old man please dont get bored ) I joined the guards as a boy soldier at 16, you could join the army back then at 15 years old back in the day when pirbright was the guards training depot. We did march & shoots with full battle order including the SLR rifle, at times it felt like my lungs were going to explode but we were made to carry on if you were unfortunate enough not to keep up or worse collapse you quite literally got a good kicking. I witnessed recruits getting punched by the ptis. Im not suggesting this is how it should be but we joined the army for god sake ! they were preparing us for war, we kind of expected to be treated like this in a way but it was in a different time I guess. It does concern me how the training standards have changed .

The old ways of the TA are, in my opinion, much better than now, but coming from my experience with the current reservists they aren't all too bad. Of course, there's a few things here and there, but for the most part they're alright. the Regular fitness standards, however, CERTAINLY need to be raised.

It was cool you got to do an assault course, that wasn't on my training. The 2k run can now be substituted for a bleep test. My exercise was also 6 days and 5 nights followed by battle pt and bayonets. My exercise was paused for a couple of hrs due to queens funeral so we went and sat in a barn to watch it on a projector. We got bugged out twice on our last night. And did our night patrol between each bug out. We had to sing musical songs in our sections for the last night, and also had dominos. I also agree with the dynamic thing about blocks. There were a couple of guys who would always be last out and never prepared.
@jamiejames6957
@jamiejames6957 6 месяцев назад
Is the 2k run only for the assessment centre or also done in basic training week one
@crusader8626
@crusader8626 6 месяцев назад
@@jamiejames6957 I didn't have the 2km for either. I did have to record a 2km in 10:15 on strava before being allowed to go to selection. If you need 10:15 i think it translates to 8.7 on bleep test which is infantry standard. The only standards higher are paras. The standard changes as you progress through the training. When you get to the second part of reserves training you start doing loaded marches then for the final part you do the rft, which has a 2km best effort in it. Weight carried and time needed to pass vary depending on your cap badge
@jamiejames6957
@jamiejames6957 6 месяцев назад
@@crusader8626 okie thanks because I’m going in as a regular soldier and I did the bleep test but I know some soldiers said they got the 2k run in basic training for the first week in basic training while some said they did the bleep again.. I’m not really a strong long run person
@crusader8626
@crusader8626 6 месяцев назад
@@jamiejames6957 honestly mate the only way to get better at it is to do more of it. Same with tabbing. Go out and get some practice in because the annual rft contains tabbing and loaded marches.

I’m going Senior Entry for the engineers buddy, don’t worry - to my best knowledge they have you for 28 days (I think) in basic and after that if you’re 100% sure you don’t want the lifestyle after that then they can let you go, but I’d honestly say once you’re in you’ll absolutely love it (everyone I speak to says the same!). Having said that I accept it may be a wee bit different for Junior Entry, and that I may have misunderstood, however that’s the process as I understand it to be! Also when they contact you it’ll go quick so enjoy it while it happens and make sure you fill out all the forms to your best knowledge! Good luck!

I know it doesn’t seem it but 22 is young so you’re not really signing your life away and if you’re going to be a sapper or reme or med or something then it’s better than going to uni or something. If you’re not sure though then hang on a bit and do the uniform stuff in college because at 16 you’ll be going to Harrogate and won’t really start proper until you’re 17 anyway.

@@me5969 honestly school isn’t an option for me, it’s not something I want to do again. I will not be going to college. But another issue I have is that I’m not sure as to what role I want or can even get in the army, I’ll probably finish school with under 6 GCSEs (none of them being English,maths,science) so I’m not sure of my options
