This is Final Fantasy Tactics: JOURNEY OF THE 5!
This fan hack tells a story exactly one year after the base game, with an older Ramza hiding out. He is quickly joined by Cloud Strife, but also Link, Solid Snake and Dante from Devil May Cry! Lots of new plot and cutscenes, plus every one of them has their own job to level up and get new skills in! It's a seriously impressive fan made effort with some cool new enemies and tough battles!

If you've never heard of it, there's a remake of Super Mario Land for SNES with DS style graphics. It's called New Super Mario Land. You might be interested in that and it would be a short playthrough.

@@taciolothar3794 Sorry, I won't be sharing that. I will say that it's not a character with any preexisting connections to the Five, but neither is it a unique OC. Guessing the true identity is theoretically possible, but none of the information needed to have an actual shot at it would have been revealed until Chapter 3.

So a bit more on the status of this mod's development: the team took time off due to life stuff all those years back, but tried to get the band back together to resume work on Chapter 2 recently. Unfortunately, most recent post from one of the leads (as of literally last month or so) in the main forum suggests that there was a big falling out amongst the group, one that's likely irreconcilable according to this person, which tends to be the true death knell for this kind of fan work. A shame, but fun while it lasted.

The project is currently on hold, chapter 2 is basically completed and chapter 3 was being worked on but there's some issues holding up the release. I dunno when it would it could happen though.

@@IrrelevantPride Chapter 3 was never even started. Chapter 2 isn't actually basically completed - in fact, the existing adjustments to the code (the ASM hacks) hard crash the game almost immediately. Some of them were moved without changing the jumps to point at the new locations, some of the new locations are invalid, and some hacks don't even work properly at all. The story battles were never properly set up. I don't think the random battles were ever touched. The new features like the synth shop were never set up. Some story events were never set up. About half of the side events were never set up, I think. And for the most part, it's been that way since 2016. I did some extensive reworking of the events in 2021 and 2022 for about eight different reasons, but it was mostly lateral progression to condense the events and show off new ideas while awaiting the head author's return to producing content for the mod. Unfortunately, that never came, and I had to quit the project. After that, it returned to dormancy.

@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 Because the team has effectively dissolved twice over now, and the head author has only produced a single event for the project since 2016. Major projects like this tend not to come back from a hiatus like that.

ProJared needs to play some of the Super Robot Wars or Namco X Capcom(and sequels Project X Zone). 😆 insane weaving of plot among different anime or video games... to the point of 😵‍💫. Although NxC and PxZ is like SRW but with an added mechanic where you need to "juggle" your opponent as much as possible to maximize damage. Never understood how that works from watching yt playthrus.

@@AkumaItachi The Triforce of Power is supposed to give Ganondorf near immortality. Ganon loses to Link because Link has holy weapons which is the only thing that can kill him (The Oracle games don't count since he was not at full power).

@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 Turns out that the bloodline of the strongest devil from another universe also works, especially when Ganondorf is already pretty depleted from a 7 (or 8) v1 battle and his opponent is temporarily overflowing with power. Holy weapons might be super effective against him and USUALLY the only viable strategy, but not always. No one ever tried summoning an equally powerful dark entity to battle him before, so it's not like that was ever ruled out. And hell, before sacrificing his mind and body, he can lose in TotK to Link if Link eats the right food and brings non-holy weapons that are less durable but comparably strong to the Master Sword. And I know he doesn't have the Triforce of Power there, but he's honestly shown to be far more powerful than he is in most other incarnations from the Secret Stone alone.

it's been years since I thought of it until I went through an old pc, but VLDC (Vanilla level design contest) for Super Mario World are pretty decent rom hacks. If I remember correctly, there's like 4 of them, each showcasing peeps level desgin skills that is worth checking out.

I wouldn't be surprised if each interdimensional character was intended to have his own "person in a cloak." If that's not the case, however, my guess is that it was Aeris given that the stone turned out to be a materia and that would mean the romhack team wouldn't have to put much effort (if any at all) to redrawing her uncloaked graphics after reveal.

You persevered through this unfair game way, way longer than I would have. At least you had the ice arrows to lean on! Game suggestions: Dragon Quest 1: To be clear. I only want you to play the first game. Not a full franchise playthrough like with FF. But the grandaddy of all JRPGs deserves its day in the sun on this channel, no question. Lufia: Yes, yes, we all know the second game is far superior, but playing through the original first makes experiencing the second all the better. Phantasy Star IV: This one, on the other hand, stands on its own so well you might as well just skip straight to it. Lunar: Still kinda stunned you've never actually played this one. I recognize none of these are the hacked "old games made new" you were talking about, but to paraphrase something they said on TV a lot while I was growing up: "If you haven't played it, it's new to you!"

In regards to skipping to Phantasy Star 4: Not to mention that, given how quickly Jared tends to run out of patience when recording (no idea if he's that way as well when not recording, but it's very evident whenever a series becomes tedious), I don't imagine Phantasy Star 2 going over very well. I personally very much like the game, but holy crap is it a slog. With dungeons that can drive any man to insanity.

For anyone who might care, I've been playing this, and if you don't let him sit on the bench learning no abilities, I found Dante to be one of my most effective characters. I especially like his dagger abilities, since they still have some range, but can't miss. The two MP regen on himself isn't bad, either. :)

@@Nyzer_ Right? Between a cheap self regen, and the highest natural HP base(as far as I can tell), he's sustainable, and the attack specials still let him do decent damage despite having a weapon that would usually suck.

*sees title* w-what do you mean FINAL? the story feels like its just starting to go somewhere and now its over??? *sees video* oh, part 1 of a cancelled project. shet. edit: im realizing that given what ive learned about this romhack project, this LP series would probably be doubled in episodes if you didnt have the glitched attack and grinded away for level/job skills so you could do the fights normally. like i thought that would be technically fine for working towards keeping up with the whole game, but i had no idea this was NOT a full game.

Dante continues to be the worst.. He does nothing the entire game then steals the show in the final fight.

Depending on how you spec him, he can be an extremely powerful unit. Swordmaster makes him probably the best of the base Five at dealing damage. He starts the game with the ability to move three tiles and then hit up to five more tiles away down a line. Round Trip is even better with a whopping 6-panel range, no line required. Trickster is also quite good, allowing him to put up Regen and then dart around the field hitting enemies from a distance. What he loses in damage dealt he more than makes up for with the tankiness of almost always having Regen up and being able to self-Quick to get out of a really bad situation. Every other character has a stronger need to get out of their base job. But Dante? Keep the Ethers coming and he'll be laying down the damage in every fight as a Swordmaster, or give him Flipper and just let him do his own thing the entire battle.
