Hi Cameron. Engine looks awesome. However you need to remove that washer you fitted to the power valve lever arm. It needs to have free play to allow the arm to rotate around the shaft it is on. This is so that the arm opens & closes the power valve via the spring. As well as enlarging & restricting the exhaust port to alter power output as you mentioned, the power valve is positioned above the port to allow the valve to change the port timing. This is the main way it alters the power output. Port timing effects the power a similar way to valve timing on a four stroke engine. In cars they call it Variable Valve Timing (VVT). So the power valve is the VVT of two strokes.

The little play shown at 16:43 is by design to allow the lever to turn over the shaft with the buffer force of the coil spring. The extra washer used at 17:02 locked up the lever and the shaft which disabled the buffer function designed in this whole spring assembly.

Great to see this build again dude, really digging the RM on the channel🤘 I have said it before, but you are an inspiration dude, not just what you have been through, but what you do on your channel, I been around bikes along time, am a car guy and into my 4wd off road projects, your attention to detail, work process and explanations are second to none, you don’t take short cuts, don’t miss the small details where I feel allot of others focus on big mods, bling eg pile etc and miss little things, like new studs or head bolts, cleaning detail, the work you did on the PV parts for example, not just this build, if anyone wants to learn how to work on bikes they should be watching your vids and filming too dude, while sometimes time lapse might appear useful you rarely do that and hence allot of important steps are not missed, for me anyway as a gear head, it’s almost therapeutic to watch your builds, even though I have done it myself many times, but we learn from each other, why I watch and have watched many channels over the years, talk to engine guys even if can pick up one thing, it’s invaluable ime, do anyways dude, thanks again for keeping it Pryme, can’t wait to see and hear this bike rip. I would love to this this and your CR250R rip around your track for a couple of laps before you give it away, someones going to win a great bike. Grip it and rip it y’all, be safe keep her distance and right side up 🤘🔥

If you want to very easily torque those cylinder bolts to spec, you should pick up some "dog bone" or "crow's foot" torque adapters. They aren't too expensive, and are the correct tool for the job.

1:57 Just in case anybody is rebuilding theirs or any other similar engine and using this as a guide, do NOT tighten studs in aluminum down to "20 or 30 foot pounds", that's insanely high and you will likely snap them off or strip the aluminum, follow the factory spec. M8/ M10 studs like that especially in aluminum get snugged up to about 10 to 12 foot pounds. (EDIT: If it wasn't obvious, I'm referring to the tightness of the studs into the engine case, not the nuts that thread onto the studs. Steel nut on steel stud accepts more torque, and a stud is different in nature than a bolt)
@CameronNiemela

Yep the factory service manual must be wrong bud. States 27 ft lbs.

Cool vid, buddy. You just got yourself another like and sub. I do have to mention tho, I disagree with "not lubing very much when putting it back together". It should have plenty of 2-stroke oil on it when asembling to make sure engine wont take damage in case oil pump is not fully primed for the first start-up, or there is some un-oiled fuel left in the hoses in case of pre-mixed engine. Rings will seat fine anyways, trust me.

Pretty sure unless it has collecter value it will generally never be worth truly rebuilding a worn motor to bring everything into spec....ALWAYS you would be money way ahead to find same model that has hardly any miles and has been garaged ....I mean EVEN if an old original motorcycle has sentimental value? If you can find the same model in pristine condition? Strip both bikes down to bare frame and simply transfer all the nice stuff onto the old frame....and yes of course you would have to have the frame refinished first.....same with engine if you want to keep serial numbers? splip cases on both engines and swap all the parts.....totally restored bike for a fraction of trying to restore a beat to crap bike with sentimental value....cool thing is the old parts can be all reassembled into the donor frame and cases replacing minimum parts to operate and then SELL that one to offset some costs of refinishing original frame and cases and/or paying for labor....I have done exactly this and it went quite smoothly

Watched an Amphicar rebuild earlier and the pot metal door handles were heavily pitted. A dedicated plating sorcerer saved the build with magic. I wonder what defects a copper cladding would correct?
