Angela: *knocks out an INCREDIBLE, intricate wrapper gown in approx. 2 weeks, and works simultaneously on several other amazing projects* Me: *bought the fabric for a green hanky-hem skirt ~2 months ago, and am still procrastinating making it, even though it's literally just putting a waistband into a square piece of fabric as if it was a circle skirt* You are, as always, an inspiration. 💞

The wrapper is so dramatic and you chose the perfect place to shoot it! Can’t wait for the pumpkin patch dress reveal, it’s always one of my favourites you make each year. I’m currently making a Dorothy dress as I am determined to dress up for Halloween even if we will have no trick or treaters or events. The Swarovski skulls are adorable and I am desperately trying to think of a reason I should buy some. Thankyou for another fabulous video ❤️❤️❤️

Angela, I'm so glad you're back! Hang in there, girl. I know it's rough to create nowadays. I have a hard time writing myself. Yesterday I got so confused (post-Covid brain -- it's real!) that I wanted to sit down and cry. Then my guy told me to take a break and make some tea. And I felt better. Maybe this time is a sort of boot camp for what's to come. Maybe things will get better, maybe they'll get worse. I don't know. But the only way we're going to get through tough times is to nurture the better aspects of ourselves: courage, discipline, kindness, strength. It's NOT easy, I know, but it's a daily victory to be strong, kind, civil and brave in the face of cruelty, deceit, greed, and hatred. Small victories accrue. Don't let the bullies win by letting them affect your serenity!! That's Bully Tactics 101 and the way to fight back is to refuse to let them make you doubt and despair. What's that quote I read? "The first element of control is to make you doubt yourself." It took me my entire youth to learn that and now I'm no longer young, but damn if it ain't true! When you feel despair, take a break, make yourself a cup of tea, or go for a walk in the woods with your dog and enjoy the silence. Then get back to making beautiful things. Your videos have been very soothing and I've learned a lot about being patient from watching you sew. Right now I'm working on a 40s blouse and I just came here to watch the video in which you make shoulder pads out of something other than batting. Sorry for such a long post, but I've been meaning to share some of this with you because I suffered from depression and was a (willing) victim of bullies all my life. I overcame that so I wanted to share. Be well, girl!!

Angela, this is another great dress. I too love vintage patterns, you started me on them a couple of years ago. I may not sew them all, but I do open up the envelopes, iron out the pattern pieces, make notes on the outside of the comic envelope to which I store them in, of damages or missing pieces. I also like to fold the pieces with number of the piece on top, so pieces are easy to see. I have gathered over 300 pre owned patterns and can spend days sorting through them. I've sewn a few with recycled fabrics and am learning lots of ideas. You are a great business entity in itself, keep inspiring.

People who love graveyards are the same people who take care of graveyards AND the same people who tend to take photos in graveyards. I like that you were conscious about your placement as well as your choosing of a more historic graveyard... but I think anyone who doesn't understand the love of graveyards has no right to place judgment on those who do love them, since they have NO IDEA how important those peaceful moments in a quite scenic space means to those of us who love them so much. Not saying everyone who takes photos in a graveyard is respectful. But I think those of us who are, and who truly love those places are the ones who are best at seeing the disrespectful nature when it does occur.
@bun04y
@bun04y 3 года назад
We have a lot of historical graveyards near where I live. And historical societies do Graveyard Crawls...where people dress up in period looking outfits from when the person died and tell you what we know of the person who is there. There are a lot of very interesting stories and I thought it was a great historical lesson (yes, I took my homeschool class to a graveyard crawl!) I feel that if no one is visiting a graveyard...then no one is remembering the past.
@celestewatson4874
@celestewatson4874 3 года назад
I love graveyards myself, am do glad to have someone articulate so clearly the peace and sacredness some of us experience there. I know few people visit cemeteries for their long dead relatives, and that makes me a bit sad, so I try to "speak to" and notice each grave, and think about that life. Very meditative!
@TysMommy609
@TysMommy609 3 года назад
I honestly don’t get the outrage of people respectfully visiting, enjoying and/or photographing (themselves, others or things) in graveyards. I know there was a ton of controversy just recently because Vanessa Hudgens posted photos of herself in a cemetery and people were calling it disrespectful, not a happy place, etc. And all I could think was, “Wait till these people find out that cemeteries were THE place to be back in the day!” They were basically parks where people would go to gather, picnic, even hunt and get married! There were legit guidebooks to cemeteries! My cousins walk a local cemetery often and it’s actually how they picked their child’s name 😊
@celestewatson4874
@celestewatson4874 3 года назад
@@TysMommy609 exactly! They were planned carefully, to be park-like, because people commonly went on Sundays to visit their dead (as is still common in other countries), and as you said, would picnic. My stepson planned his wedding for the 19th century Atlanta cemetary close to Martin Luther King's birthplace. It is a gorgeous place, full of fountains, benches, lush plantings, old trees. It's delightful to go and look at the elaborate headstones (which is why people chose beautiful, expensive headstones - to impress the living!)
@hollybrooke322
@hollybrooke322 3 года назад
Actually in the past cemeteries were treated as public parks. They would be laid out in a way that you could walk through, have picnics and enjoy the beauty as an activity. They were/are places of peace and meditation. Families would take daily strolls through the larger city cemeteries. This concept of disrespecting by visiting, taking pictures, etc is a fairly new concept. If you go to big cities and look at the large old cemeteries you can see how they are laid out for visitors and activities. They were referred to as "Memorial Parks" and even "Pleasure Grounds" starting about 1830 or so.

I know you’re having problems with motivation and I hope this at least is an emotional balm. Your videos and other channels of similar content are really inspiring me to really hanker down and get into sewing again. Only thing really stopping me right now is the fact I don’t have readily available fabric or fabric stores (town of ~5,000) and with COVID especially I don’t want to drive an hour to a larger town and I’m in a small apartment with a college budget

There are some great mail order options these days!

@@susanrobertson984 any suggestion? I’ve never ordered fabric online so I’m nervous to do so especially as a novice-intermediate sewer and my online ordering adventures of yarn which I’m more adept with working with have been iffy at best

@@mak3960 where do you live? In the USA fabric.com. in Canada there are a bunch of choices depending what uou want. Purelinenenvy for linens, fabric-fabric.com has great wool options, overseasfabrics.com, darrell thomas has higher end options, the list goes on...

Thrift stores also can be good sources of fabric sometimes too - bedsheets and curtains are great to practice on too!
