I'm a hobbyist seamstress and costume maker who has hopes of working in the industry someday. I make a lot of historically inspired things and ruffly dresses. This channel is a way of sharing my progress and my process through videos. :)
Angela! I am so amazed in your work and so proud of you. I cannot understate how much of a progress yu are making - I am still gathering myself from a nervous breakdown (with a 3 month stay in a great hospital) 2 years ago, so seeing you doing so much makes me happy <3 you are important and you are not alone. We may be just letters on the internet, bu we are also kind of your community - here to cheer you on and wait when you need to take a break. Big hugs <3
if you do this in future, you might try using a wood burner to melt the edges? i know people do it with the fine mesh around lace appliques and it seems to work well? you at least won't be staring into a flame whilst trying to work. so glad you're back though. we missed you!
I watched to the end, on my TV so I could actually see, and I think it looks fabulous! Also, I wanted to say, I'm so proud of you for fighting depression and coming back to making videos! I'm so happy when I see something new of yours, it's like having tea with an old friend! Welcome back, and thanks for the new video! Love the dress, and oh my goodness, the 3D thinking for that sleeve construction!!!
The 2 saddest days ever in my childhood: 1) the vet told me my tuxedo cat wouldn't turn into a lion if I kept feeding him. I was crushed, but went home and cried with my Barbies. 2) the day they explained to me dragons weren't real. My 5 yr old brain could not accept that if snakes, bats, and lizards exist, there might have been a giant crossover. I'm in my 50s now and STILL can't accept this! Welcome back, you're worth the wait!
I am so so proud of you and happy that you're out there not only getting back into things you love, but willing to talk about your struggles. Know that you have a horde of people out there cheering for you, and YES you do deserve kindness and to feel happy <3 - Also I think the dress came out great, and I REALLY enjoyed the detailing on the sleeves! I am inspired to go back to my own projects now. :)
Im so thrilled to be able to watch your videos again! you always make me laugh with your quiet, dry humour. Ive learnt so much from you too, i went from not sewing at all the having the confidence to design and sew my own wedding dress, largely because of you, im so excited that yore creating again, and so impressed that you were able to pull yourself out of such a difficult place - it takes so much strength, you're amazing.
So happy to have you back on here! Everyone certainly missed you! Your health is the most important thing, so do what you need to do, but it's a joy to see you and your videos again. The first video of yours I found was the making of a Cinderella inspired dress, and you inspired me to start sewing and got me into cosplay. I haven't been sewing for a long time myself, but I just thought I'd comment to say that you are an inspiration. Good to have you back :)
I saw a comment on Sewstine’s last video saying how you had uploaded this week and got so excited! (I’ve been catching up on costumers in general lately, and it was nice to see her mention using the presser-foot scrunch method for gathering fabric and attributing it to you.) This dress feels like such a triumphant return. I always felt like you worked so hard on everything you made and did so much extra/went above and beyond what would be needed to just have it finished. You make the insides of your garments pretty - when I don’t think anyone who follows makers would blame you for focusing on the stuff that people will see when it’s worn. And you add all this trim/lace/sequins that really elevate the look of your dresses beyond simple functionality. I know you said that you prefer believability in garments and felt like this was more of a costume piece, but every aspect you criticized for contributing to that is a part of what I think makes your style unique and distinct from other costubers. I glad that you ended up being happy with the finished product, because you absolutely deserve to be. It looks beautiful!
Your outro was lovely, I’m here because I love seeing your work and how it’s not always perfect because people are human and sometimes fabric is difficult. The dress looks amazing and you look amazing in it. I haven’t been watching HoD but you’re making me think I should check it out. I’m still salty about how GoT ended.
I am honestly so thrilled you're back, and feeling better enough to BE back :) I love your videos, they have always felt very honest while still fun and inspiring to watch. You're the reason I bought my first sewing machine! Take any amount of time you need, we'll be happy when you are :)
This turned out incredible. Also, almost cried at the end there. Depression sucks, the feeling of unworthiness sucks, and it feels SO good when you can finally make something again after it just wouldn't let you for ages.
Hi Angela… I don’t know how I missed this from three years ago, but this is perfect timing as I am attempting to make a regency gown… I think yours is spectacular! I love sequins too! I love your humour and your realness! You are such an inspiration. Thank you so much… And I did watch your latest two videos of your dragon dress… amazing job!I’m so glad to have you back with us. Take good care of yourself. 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄⭐️Happy creating!
I am so proud of you for being here and sharing your creativity with us! Having dealt with severe, treatment-resistant depression from ages 17-25, people who haven’t lived it truly don’t understand how scary and devastating it is. I’m 28 now and I’m so happy I stuck with my treatment plan and fought hard because as trite as it sounds, it really does get better. You are incredibly talented and I’m so happy to see you on RU-vid again
It’s so nice to see you again, I was concerned . I want you to know that everyone has their mental health demons. Sometimes you need to take a break from everything. Please please don’t push yourself too hard. Don’t worry what others think, your creativity is amazing! The dress is amazing. ❤
It’s so good to see you back! I love how the final photos turned out the vibe is so good. The costume is stunning as always. Also dragons are the superior mythical creature, you have excellent taste.
Angela, I found your channel around the time you posted the videos of a Christmas dress in white and gold with red accessories - according to RU-vid about 8 years ago. You and your marvellous creations sparked my interest for costuming and actually sewing at large. I still come back and watch your vlogs when I have hand sewing to do or am in need of sparkly inspiration. I relate so much to what you're sharing of your mental health, and it's comforting to know I'm not alone in struggling with creativity. I just started picking up my sewing again after a year of burnout, and I'm thrilled to see you at it too. I am so proud of both of us! You bring joy to so many people's lives, of course you are so deserving of all the kindness in the world! <3
Balancing time management with the deep love of sparkly--the struggle is REAL 🤣✨ Congrats on finishing--done is better than perfect, and here's hoping we get some more done projects in the future! 🧡
The project came out fantastic, especially considering you haven’t really been making anything. You’re still 10 times the artist I am. And you truly taught me to sew and now I confidently teach others so thank you ❤❤
Been watching for years and I'll keep at it so long as this channel exists! I don't mind a gap in content. Also, your mint hair is absolutely stunning.
The dress turned out wonderfully! I'm really happy to see you back and creating things again. I hope you're able to stick around, and I also hope you take care of yourself however you need (including not replying to comments!). <3
Honestly I missed you. I am sorry you were going through some troubles and I hope this video is a sign that you are doing better. So glad to see you are making more videos.
The blouse you wear during commentary by the way is gorgeous. The fabric looks like you're wearing a beautiful painting in the most amazing way possible ❣️
I've had more than one bout of depression and anxiety over the years. I'm so proud of you for finding your way through it and are getting back into your creative space. You are a truly talented and gifted artist and i'm always excited to see what you've come up with. Healing hugs.
