I live in upstate South Carolina where tobacco was grown on a small scale prior to the Civil War. Just about all types of tobacco grow well here. I grow for my own use but sometimes sell whole leaf tobacco on the internet and flea markets. As a kid I used to stay with my cousins in North Carolina who had a flue cured operation in the Old Tobacco Belt where the soil is almost the same as mine. I learned much about tobacco there. They didn't have tractors, only mules. Tobacco was primed, meaning the leaves were removed as they ripened and placed in a wooden sled pulled by a mule. They were carried to the barn where the women and kids waited to string the leaves onto tobacco sticks similar to those you used. They were hung in a tight curing barn and cured under controlled conditions with heat. I grow mainly flue cured, burley, dark air cured, and Oriental tobacco.

Well done videos Micah! You have showed precisely how much work goes into growing a tobacco crop! Thanks for taking your time to both educate those who are unaware of the work and for helping Ashlyn out a bit with his channel! You are not at all boring bro so get that thought out of your head!👍

Mic-ah-ah-ah! Have some confidence man. It wasn't boring. It would be nice to see the bigger operation if they'd let you film it just to see the difference more people and better equipment make. Hope the sale of it goes well, that's allot of work. Thanks for the video guys, take care.

I never thought of Pennsylvania as a tobacco growing area. Shouldn't you wear gloves when harvesting/handling? Don't you worry about the contact and possible skin absorption of the nicotine? Just asking.

@@xavier_j_lamour I thought they are cousins - Micah keeps mentioning 'dad' and 'grandpa' and it's the Rohrer farm.

@@dhenschel4 Micah Frey is not related to Rohrer's. Micah's only connection/affiliation to the Rohrer's is through doing custom hauling during spring and fall harvest when called/hired upon to do so. Along with delivering straw bails to them. Micah was a classmate of Ashlyn for 3 years. They were good friends in school and still are friends to this day.

@derek aldrich he was just in a video 3 days ago. Besides, if you “followed him”, you would understand that he needed some time away. But he still wants to upload content. So try and be understanding.
