Nice work Micah, Great work on explaining the procedure of stripping the Tobacco. You even had perfect camera angles. Glad you had a great time in WY. You did not ramble. If it was Ashlyn, he would ramble on🤣🤣. He might have senior moments from time to time😂😂. Again great job Micah. Yes, Ashlyn you do a great job also. 😆😆😆😅😅 Micah you are one silly man. Nate go easy on your brother he is just trying to help. 😄😄🤣

Great job explaining how it’s done Micah. Back in the day here in South Central Ky when I raised tobacco it was burly and we had 4 grades of it starting with trash, lugs, red leaf , and tips at the very end of the stalk. And burly tobacco is a lot taller than what you guys have it would average between 5 feet to 6 feet or more in height depending on the weather we would get. And the stalks we would either spread them on crop ground or pasture because they were high in nitrogen.

Mic-ah-ah-ah! Nice job, PROMISE FULFILLED. Nice you can work and play with your dump trucks😂. Nate-er-ator! Been missing that smile and energy. Man that cellar isn't bad at all, I've had to work in some way creepy farm places. ANYWAY good of you to help, hope school is going well. Learn all you can but these days, check the facts, allot of schools are teaching garbage especially when it comes to history. When in doubt, check with someone who knows. I don't know anyone you do except SmartASH! & ToeKnee! but I know they can give you the truth. Thanks for the video guys, take care!

Thank You for such a thorough answer. Good money but not that much considering it is almost all hand labor.

I might have missed it but does your good leafs go for a certain cigar and where could we find cigars with your product? And what would be the average price for one of the best leafs? Thank you from a cigar smoker.
@micahfrey8486
@micahfrey8486 Год назад
I know that the wrapper leafs (good leaf) go for cigars but I dont know that they go to a specific company or cigar type. When we strip and sort it we deliver it to a company who cures it and brokers it from there. As for prices if we broke it down and did the math we could figure it out but it depends on some things. The wrapper leafs this year i believe were about $6.50 per lb

What is the best time of year to sell your tobacco? What is considered a good income from an acre of tobacco?
@micahfrey8486
@micahfrey8486 Год назад
we operate pretty much off of the same schedule per year for tobacco, plant may, harvest July/august, and strip it late November-march. We will have about 4-6 delivery dates over the course of stripping it and thats when we take it in to lancaster leaf and get paid. As for rough $ per Acre its very hard to say cause it can be affected by so much. I would say a good average taking into consideration everything maybe gross $9,000 an acre

Mic-ah-ah-ah! thought of something.....surprising right? If it's wet under that floor you built up over the spring in the stripping cellar hanging room, and the hanging tobacco is a little dry, If you cut a square hole in the floor about the size of a small box fan in the end opposite of the drain, lay a small box fan face down over it and run it on low for a while I bet it would drive enough moisture up to condition what's hanging there just right. Just a thought, take care man.

About a month ago I thought you had forgotten about us, but here it is. Thanks for going over this. So do you have a contract with a cig company, or do you sell on the spot market?
@micahfrey8486
@micahfrey8486 Год назад
Nope, didnt forget just didnt have a great time to get the camera from ashlyn get it done and get it back lol
@micahfrey8486
@micahfrey8486 Год назад
All the local tobacco farmers have a contract with a company called lancaster leaf, they cure it and broker it from there.
@morganottlii2390
@morganottlii2390 Год назад
That's burley tobacco, right? For cigars? Since you don't have driers, I know it's not flue cured, and the terms you are using make me think cigars. Do you contract or sell at auction? Inquiring minds want to know! Great video, Micah. Interesting subject.
@micahfrey8486
@micahfrey8486 Год назад
Not burly, we raise PA41 tobacco that goes mainly for cigars, we are contracted to a company called lancaster leaf who contracts, buys, cures and brokers the tobacco to whoever makes the final product then whatever it is.
