This’ll Do Farm is a 6th generation family farm located in Southeast Iowa that is run by a father-son duo Tork and Sawyer. Sawyer is the force behind his family farm taking care of hog barns, along with farming the family’s acres. Sawyer promotes agriculture by recording his day-to-day life with his dad (Tork) on the farm. Both Tork and Sawyer have a burning desire to grow the farm bigger and bigger. Despite only being 20 years old, Sawyer has an old school work ethic with an innovative approach towards implementing agricultural technology and practices. Sawyer’s mission is to showcase agriculture in a positive light. And be one of the faces of agricultural education and innovation.

Sawyer, you hit the nail right on the head with the comment about young people not wanting to get into the trades. I'm a 66-year-old carpenter in Maine. I was at a lumber yard one day and the comment was made to me by a young, 36-year-old carpenter, that most of the other contractors there had gray hair. Now that says something. The money is in the trades, but you may have to work hard and get dirty.

A good concrete team is worth its weight in gold. My husband was a civil engineer and where he went, his concrete crew went. He made sure they were paid very well.

We sell our corn to one of three feed mills near us. All make hog feed. One mill feeds the pigs we grow. Just depends on who has the best price when we pull the trigger. Thanks for watching!

When we build our pig barn in Germany, we had to put 4 - 5 times more steel in the concrete.

I have a friend who has poured cement for 45 years he started when he was 15 and when he graduated from high school he had a job working at a packing plant and at night and weekends he poured cement and then he got a job as a janitor for a nursing home and he did driveways and sidewalks and he would buy cheap houses that had to be moved and he and his brother would lay block for the basement and then moved the house in then he would fix the house up and sell it. He did like 35 to 45 in the years and he would bid on homes that were built by guys that were in a carpentry class at our local technical college and when he got the bid on those he would get a guy that dug holes for basements and he would lay the block and move the house in that he got the bid on. I helped him some by mixing up cement and keeping his brother and him with a pile of cement in front of them. He has put both kids through college and one of those he put through additional 3 years of college and always bought them nice cars, pretty much close to new ones and he always had a new pickup to drive around in and a 2nd pickup for pouring cement and hauling tools and wheelbarrows around.

This is the first barn that we have done one on. We have a good well on the site but... 1. It lets your pump rest when the pigs are big. 2. If you do have a pump go down, you have a days worth of water to use while you fix it. 3. If you loose a well, you’ve got a tank to haul water to until you get it figured out.
