@@daboys1215 Actually Finns couldn't finish shit, they dominated Canada the whole game, just couldn't put the puck to the net. Better team won eventually
@@TuomasRoin Luck implies little to no effort. It was a lucky bounce, but Finland is not "lucky" to have won like many of Canadian/ American broadcasters insinuated also in hindsight of the broken stick on a very high goal chance for Canada just moments before. Finland worked hard for their win and whether it's a beautiful finish or a lucky bounce... it's hockey. Nobody should complain that they lost because the other team got "lucky" as this would undermine the effort and determination the other team showed clearly. Not to mention that Canada lost much higher to Finland in the group stage.
One Toaster boi13 I assume your a fin pretending to be a Canadian, the game was pretty even and no Canadian would just bow down to all the hate without defending themselves.
I'd say the Finns had both luck AND skill. How else did they get the puck so close to the net so many times, if not by skill? 34 shots on goal by Finland vs. 25 by Canada. Were you really that surprised?
JS....agreed.....any team wins/loses on luck and skill.....I rarely look at shots on goal....rather I look at the quality of shots on goal....Finland beat Canada, end of. period. As a Canadian fan I was disappointed....but that's the way the puck bounces....
Our Canadian media keeps parroting "it's a game of inches". Well, it's also a game of GOALS, and we scored ONE in 75 minutes. Very disappoing. GOOD LUCK to FINLAND in Semis:)
Thanks Finland, now go get your gold medals. You have a great future with all this young and upcoming talent. Too bad Sweden was so bad this year and we couldn''t see a rivalry game in the semis. Would have loved every second of it.
Det är alltid bra att se en match Finland mot Sverige och den skulle hade varit bra också i den här vm2019. Men tack, allt god för dig till Sverige. Hälsningar från Finland🇫🇮❤🇸🇪
both goals were pretty lucky and unfortunate for canada.... Both off their own sticks... To be honest though canada didn't seem to play a dominating game as analyst predicted and Fins seem took advantage of the luck today. good on them they advance and Canada doesn't. soo sad today.
It would seem that Canada 14 - Denmark 0 is not so special now... The silence in the building... the clutched hands covering gaping mouths... "It's OUR Game"...
@Michael Robertson Always fun coming to look at these older comments, always such BS salty shit from the Canada haters when we lose, then they all climb into their holes when we win again. Typical.
@@ryanfriesen4366 Nah Russia just let off a bit. They had the lead, and they stopped playing. If Russia really tried against Canada, it would have been another blowout. The thing that happened to Canada in the WJC in 2011, happened to Russia.
This is why hockey sticks must never be broken and I'm not saying that as a hater for Finland, I love Finland and Finnish hockey. Glad they won the 2019 WJC. Kiitos Suomi! Salutes from Canada.
You're class. Good luck next tournament. Now you had the chance against open net, stick breaks - counterattack goal, with a deflection from the defender.
Shame on some of you Canadians how you behaved after this game! As we say in Finland: one can't always win, not even every time. That's life and besides knowing how to win, you also gotta know how to lose
@Carleton Rutherford booed at us during our game against Switzerland and blamed first just the team's captaing for losing and then a stick making company which did not even make the stick that broke. I can't call that a team spirit at all. Canadians take hockey way too serious and can't deal with losing a game
@@-Julia-96 We Canadians take our hockey very seriously....it's so deeply ingrained in our culture, I'm surprised they didn't add a hockey stick to our new flag in the '60's ......many act like it's our God given right to win every game...but that's not realistic, (it's like if the All Blacks of New Zealand lose, there's a national crisis there, same here)....We can take most things well, but not losing at our game...which is a shame, because we do end up getting back on our skates and find the world hasn't ended.........and besides to win all the time is not good for this wonderful game of hockey....it would be boring and stagnate for the game.....the Finns beat us fair and square, and it doesn't matter why....a broken stick, a missed penalty shot, lucky goal etc., all these components are how any team wins/loses....and the Finns got the goal that eliminated Canada.....good on the Finns for taking the gold...
@OceanBlue you are wrong!!!! I'm a Canadian and I have very much noticed the fact that "the world" has "caught up" with us.....Do I like that we lost? of course not.....but for other teams to be "catching up" is good for the game...it means countries are interested and investing in the game...and that's fantastic....oh and Fredrik Nordin, be fueled by Canadian tears all you want, but that sounds petty and jealous......but you should be crying some Swedish tears .... Swedish teams always play so well in the Juniors, then can't win when in comes to the medal round.......glad Finland beat the Yanks though....
We were always the team to beat, this year we had a beautiful line up, sorry to see the boys go earlier than expected. Didn't see the full game but from the sound of it we got a little outplayed, though we might have, those two goals came from a lucky bounce and the luckies opportunity you'll ever see in the game. Good luck to all the teams advancing, can't wait to beat you next year.
I just love the fact that he had the best chance to win and fucked it up. After all his over the top leadership and the dive; and his already dirty NHL experience, kinda nice to see him lose
Armaan R you guys are both fucking stupid, Finland played better than us they deserved the W, to blame the whole game on Comtois is fucking stupid. He played great the whole tourney, and penalty shots are 50/50. So fucking toxic
Jonathan Wylygan I'm not blaming the whole game on Comtois. This entire team lacked offensive depth and left their goalie to do most of the work. Read my f**king comment carefully.
Jonathan Wylygan four goals against teams like Denmark and Switzerland who should be commended for icing a team doesn't make him a great player. the only player I have sympathy for is Dipietro with that unlucky bounce in the last min.
as a Finn i cant relate, seen this video like a million times. no offense to canadians (got some relatives there) but i remember it was so fun to see the whole arena silent after the finnish goals.
That broken stick is still hard to watch. Bounces like the tying goal happen from time to time, but that sequence in overtime is just unbelievable. UPL isn't even close to covering the far side as the puck enters Dobson's wheelhouse - but the stick abandon's him. Absolutely unreal break, and part of what makes the game so great.
I’m a Canadian. Was very disappointed of this years team. Max comtois is an absolute pile of garbage. You get the C and get to play in front of your fans and you dive. Joke of a captain tbh. This team had no class. You could tell at the end the Finn wanted to shake hands with DiPietro when it was POTG but DiPietro just left. Sorry for rambling I did not like this team and their vibes. However, go Switzerland 🇨🇭
It started with very bad foot when they annihilated poor Denmark and humiliated them in the opener, no class at all so it's just hockey karma that they bowed out with this one.
From what I saw him play is I wonder why no one else is disturbed by the fact that his every tackle or hit is aimed at the head very dangerously. There were atleast 2 hits in Finland game that if they had hit finland would have 2 guys in the hospital...
Only watched first 2 periods, but had a feeling that Finland was going to take this one, they were a better team during those 2 periods. Dipietro saved a lot during those 2 periods. Congrats to Finns, they earned this win. Now, they may win it all, given the way the planets are aligned...
its kind of sad how toxic this comment section is. its almost like a team cant lose without being hated on by millions. act like youve been there before finland fans and good game. best of luck to anyone reading this. EDIT: after thinking about it the day after i love how people can get so fired up over a hockey tournament😂😂 (myself included). it was funny because i said to my dad thiers only a minute left in the game so he went to do so grocery shopping or whatever so i quickly say bye to him and when i walk down i see it going to overtime. he gets back and im like “ ya know... whoever gets scored against is out” and then we see the one timer go through and we start celebrating and we realized his stick broke i think you know what happend next. *smashes television*
Finns did it again! This one was a bit lucky goal but sometimes you get lucky. For some reason the face of DiPietro reminds me how Granlunds goal surprised everyone in 2011. Gooo Finlaaad!
This game shows you have to deserve your luck. I hope other Finnish teamsports learn this as well, basketball is well on the way to European top, volleyball was there, now it´s touch and go, football/soccer national team is on a rise and that´s the most important to me.
Also if we speak lucky, remember that patrick kane shot in 2010 when they took that first cup before going on a spree, vs the Flyers. I mean if you did not take a look.
I swear watching the world juniors always about the give me a heart attack, the games are so intense. If that stick doesn't break we would have a different world champion now. If Luukkonen doesn't make that save on the penalty shot we would have a different world champion now. Proud of our boys bringing home another gold medal. And how about Jokiharju perfectly sweeping the puck to his teammate while laying down on the ice a split second after the broken stick? It's a game of inches...
Justice prevailed! The refs did everything in their power to hand the victory to team Canada. Feels nice. Congratulations Finland! Make sure you beat Schweiz now!
anyone thinking finland “deserved” to win is wrong. shots on goal aren’t everything, and the finns got as lucky as u could imagine in this game. rip canada wjc 2019
DiPietro held his own out there. As a Canadian (but living in San Jose), anyone in Canada who said that it was a fluke, let me tell you that Canada had loads of opportunities to score another goal, but didn't
its not unlucky, its kind of inexperience.... i mean Ovechkin, Jamie Benn and Brown do that all the time. The issue is that he shouldve just lifted it up a little while moving it towards goalie since he already had the speed, he had to stop for that power shot, instead his stick took the momentum pressure and snapped. Also that Finland equalizer was just out this world lucky, I mean out of 10 similar situations this would only work out like twice. Its like hitting straight flush in a 6 handed draw poker game.
