Finlay's partial denture design sequence
Step 1 - Provisional Design from examination and photos:
Assess existing teeth, spaces, and oral health.
Fill in missing teeth on the design sheet.
Draw rest seats for support.
Identify metal backings for additions in future.
Include retention.
Draw flanges and colour in the design.
Discuss design with the patient.
Step 2 - Definitive Design with primary casts:
Transfer cast to a surveyor for analysis.
Identify guide surfaces and check undercuts.
Tilt cast for considerations like aesthetics and clasp positions.
Confirm interocclusal space for rests.
Discuss refined design with the patient.
Finalise by colouring in acrylic and metal components.
Create a tooth preparation map for guidance.
Request custom tray with specific occlusal stops.
