Respect. As a South African, there was really only one British and Ireland Lions player that threatened South Africa on their tour, and that was Fin Russell when he came on the field.
As an Irish man with Scottish blood I love watching him and Scotland playing. They have really up their game in the last few years.. 2 years scalping england 👌💪
Where Ireland had Brian O'Driscoll, NZ had Dan Carter, and France had Thierry Dusautoir ... Scotland has Finn Russell. 2023 is hopefully the year his Scottish teammates match his brilliance
So deceptively fast and so deceptively strong. His other mercurual skills are there for all to see in plain sight. The price tag put on him is so well deserved imo. I'd pay good money to see him every game. Will someone tell me why the media keep banging on about Johnny Wilkinson being the greatest no 10 ever? He's not in the same league as Russell. I can't recall him making any incisive breaks or scoring some amazing tries.. I may have been looking the other way, sorry.. Is it just the English media feeding English rugby fans?
Russell is very skilful but doesn’t keep the scoreboard ticking over the way Wilko did, doesn’t defend like him, isn’t as consistent as him and doesn’t manage a game like him. Plus because if Wilkos tackling and kicking being the best ever, I’d argue his handling and passing was underrated when he was the best passer in the world a the time. That’s why!
"Mercurial" hahah. That's the word the scottish media & pundits keep using as if they've suddenly got the next Dan Carter! It's just another word for "has great moments, but is seconds away from the next error, missed tackle, poor defending etc". Russell is miles off Wilkinson. How's Finn's medal collection measure up against Jonny's? Grand Slams? League titles? European Cups? World Cups? Not sure 1 Pro12 really compares does it?
That's honestly a retarded comment. Johnny Wilkinson, as good defensively as in attack and like Russell has great vision and skills too but slightly different to Russell, never really had a bad game especially when it counted. Of course his kicking prowess won many games alone. Some magical tries as well with one I can remember jumping off the pitch but touching down the ball before his body was off the field, incredible. Please don't disrespect great players. Ps I'm welsh.
@@dtrjones Well I've just watched Johny Wilikinson's "greatest rugby moments" and I saw him kick loads of conversions, a few fdtop goals and make only one break.. So I think hugely over rated. tbh England have always struggled at no 10 so I can understand why they rate him so highly. If you were a real Welsh boyo you should know what decent No 10s look like..
@@docco007 He has put a lid on it since the arrival of the kid. There is a telegraph rugby podcast with him on it before the six nations having a chat about all things finn
Finn's inconsistency is HIGHLY overblown it's mainly a media narrative that people parrot because they don't actually watch him play but FInn hasn't been inconsistent for about 6 years now lol hes been if not Racings best player every week at least top 3, every time he pulls on a Scotland shirt he is class even when people thing hes having a bad game because one of his 100 passes didn't work out his game management is top tier he sees space that other players simply don't. Enjoy him while he's here because i don't think we can replace him for Scotland when he retires.
Currently, Handre Pollard is the most expensive. Rather doubt that Finn would be more expensive than the world cup winning fly-half. Finn is two years older than Handre and scored less than half the amount of points for his country.
Who gives af about country when talking club rugby? Pollard got benched by an Italian and was a drain for montpelliar in his last season, at least Russell creates magic for racing
I was Finn’s biggest fan, but not anymore. That no care, I am good, attitude with not good performances in the last 12 months makes him a undesirable to me. With him transferring to Bath will be a disaster as well.
He's a loose cannon.. missed 3 conversions against Wales the other day and it looked as if he didn't really care.. they were well ahead I know but atleast pretend you care
@JanHB Hugo.... Pollard has won the World Cup, Rugby Championship, European rugby challenge cup, Currie Cup, and Junior World Cup. All before his 27th birthday. Remind me what Finn Russel won with Club or country? O yes, I remember he won the trophy for smiling ear to ear after every interspersed pass-try he throughs and heavy loss suffered by his country and clubs. Thank goodness he made the Scootland team again, almost thought Scootland could become a real rugby threat without him. But as long as he is at 10 smooth sailing for any country that plays them.
Pollard is a great player as all rugby fans know. You however demonstrate all that is wrong with certain SA fans. No dignity. No class. As a French resident I hope only real SA fans come for the WC.
From sa i see many off them everyday...not really more then a good player, but like said i see many off them everyday.....nothing more then that...when he played sa (b&i tour),all tought now they gona win sa but they didnt...he only changed the play and read the game better when he came on not even the last test when he played.....the 1st test the referee robbed the game from sboks🤷♂️....
@@joeboonmusic4004 sorry bro not every game we lost i told which one and also u can see in those we won how hard the referees tried to make us loose...the evidence is out there its recorded, and people hate us for that evem showing hard evidence...2022 championships is been ript from sa even in argentine vs sa we won but they tried to make us loose and prevent us to score enough points...just look at ebens try...its legal nothing wrong but they find a way by lying to reject it ssy it left his hands while it wasnt....2nd nz test go whatch it analuzed it 1st ausie game same story....its an old thing among world rugby......anyways i like fin russel but i cant ranked him in top 10 flyhalfs i cant...yes we have the highest paid flyhalf in the world(pollard),but thats not i refereing to......for me russel is the best in scotland..,he is not bettee then other northern flyhalfs, yes he done the best on b&i tour,if i was the coach had done the same mistake i wouldnt know russel would "played"the best off them on that tour....but he would be my 3rd choice aswell....i think he was eager to play and read the game from bench very well nefore came on.......still no prob with him..
@@joeboonmusic4004 we didnt lost we won the series very easy and could lost it if we didnt complaint about the refereeing tolerated and show them on the evidence thats been recorder after every gane so all the others they robbed us its not what we say we show it and from evidence not crying or complainning just bec we lost,we based on true real evidence ....
@@DonHalli sorry no rubbish and never said he isnt a good player,i said he is very good he is in the top players at no.10 but sertainly not the best, like i highlight for you again,I SEE MANY OFF THEM,NOT MEENING HE IS POOR....,let me refress your memory......muanga,carter,dan bigger, saxton,(sa has only one on this stage also highest pay in the world,"pollard"),owen farrel,i dont even know all names like the french no.10,....so basically they all good, like i said i see many off them everyday.....not a bit better then these few i mentioned above....ye like on b & i lions tour he played better then others but on everage trough the years in same era his not the best but good yes...so no i dont talked bull only truth🤷♂️also not say its always sa,but also the one and only 10 we have on this stage(that is in same class),is pollard and he kicks his ass....but didnt say in my previous comment its only sa,only talked about the b&l l tour yes..but not say our players only and now i telling you pollard kicks his ass ...
@@DonHalli ye thatswhy pollard is the highest rugby player in the word he is boring and oneway only like in 2019 wc aswell we couldnt stand his play .meanwhile russel isnt in the top 10 payed players so hy is the best....congtrats.........pollard is so cool and calm he didnt even play very hard to perform...he is an extra no.12 on the field he can crack your ribs iff he wants he kick in presure as iff theres no presure at all from any angle he ran over you if he wants he can smile in your face if he wants......still i never said russel bad or is bad i said he is not the best as others to...he doesnt stands out like a carter, biggar, sexton, farrel, muanga, lets leave pollard for your sake, then still russel will be about between 11 and 15th....
He's never spearheaded a dominant team. Great to watch and I'm sure kids will be trying to do his tricks but in reality he's a liability when it comes to being successful over an entire tournament. There's a reason he has zero medals.
One of the most over rated rugby players………the problem for Russell has been that in the Top14 he doesn’t stand out. There are, and always have been, better stand offs in this league.
@@robmclintock3837 He's inconsistent as hell though, and as the attitude of a brat. Smith may not be Russell level yet, but he'll be running rings around him soon enough, he's super young.
@@joeboonmusic4004 Russell has been known to be inconsistent in the past yes but have u been watching him ever since he moved to Racing? He has been on top of his game and super consistent. The Lions test speaks for itself he proved that he is the best 10 in the 4 nations that day. The only thing holding him back is his relationship with Gregor Townsend and with greater knowledge of the situation you would realise that it is Townsend who is primarily at fault not Finn. Finn has a very respectable well rounded character (he is not a brat). It would appear you seem to hate him for all the devastation he has brought upon England in recent years?? As for Marcus Smith, he improved drastically after having played with Russell in the Lions. Yes he is a good young talent but he is know where near Finn Russell yet and he plays behind a far better forward pack than Finn. There is a reason Finn is the most expensive player in the world. Cos he offers a certain maverick, magic flare to the game that only he can provide whilst also nailing the basics and being a top place kicker and a top kicker in general. His skill set is unmatched!!
When he is on form, he's incredible. When he is off form, he's shit. Far too inconsistent. Rather leave him off the teamsheet as you don't know what you're getting game to game. I'm a Scotsman.
