this song was actually written about and inspired by nick cordero. he was a broadway star in his 40s who was perfectly healthy and ended up getting covid. he had a ton of complications and went into a coma for a while. his wife amanda kloots visited him every day in the hospital even just standing outside and playing his music when no visitors were allowed in. nick ended up getting holes in his lungs and having a leg amputated and a ton of other follow up issues that came from covid. after i think a few months he woke up but was in such bad condition. he ended up passing away not too long after. him and amanda have a now one year old baby. that’s where the last 2 lines come from “i wish you could see him, he looks just like you” the first couple of times that i listened to this song i didn’t put the story together but it’s sooo heartbreaking when you know the whole backstory behind it. amanda posted updates throughout the entire time in the hospital on her instagram @ amandakloots. it’s definitely worth checking out it brings a whole new meaning and perspective to the song. definitely one of my favorites by finneas💔
