Found this on Quora, it's a good read about dragsters not having coolant. They don’t have a separate cooling system because it wouldn’t do any good - there’s no way for any such system to dispose of the heat one of these engines produces - and if the engine block had water passages it would be too weak to deal with the stress of a 10,000 horsepower engine. So they have to resort to other means. After the engine is rebuilt, which happens after every run, they fire it and warm it up. Then they shut it down and change out all 16 quarts of oil before bringing the car to the line because by the time the engine has warmed up the oil is completely diluted with fuel and looks like mustard. But that process dumps a bunch of heat out of the system, and the new oil can absorb a bunch more. The fuel used is 90% nitromethane, a slightly viscous fluid that is also a pretty good coolant, and 10% ethanol, also a coolant. About 25% of the fuel is sprayed directly into the supercharger, and it’s such an effective coolant that the supercharger is only warm to the touch after a run. They use a lot of fuel. The air:fuel ratio for a gasoline engine is about 12.5:1. The air:fuel ratio for a top fuel car is 1:3, possible because nitro contains oxygen. 1.5 gallons of fuel per second, which is faster than you can pour it out of a container. 90% of the nitromethane in the combustion chamber is liquid, which helps cooling. And it burns nearly all the way through the power stroke (gas and alcohol just explode at the top of the stroke) so the heat is distributed better than in a normal engine. The cars don’t run for very long. A few minutes, tops, from startup to shutdown. And a total of maybe 4 or 5 seconds at max power between the burnout and the run itself. 10 seconds at max power would create enough heat to destroy the engine.

I'm 65 now, but in my early 20's, Pat Staubach had a steak house in Ft Lauderdale. Back then it was cheaper to clothe me than to feed me. 5'll", 180#'s, they also had a 72 oz. steak, salad, n baked potato, also 1 hour to eat. If done meal was free, n picture was taken n put on the wall. Salad 1st, then potato n steak together. Pacing my self I did make it. Was very uncomfortable, but survived. Did not think they had placeslike that any moore. Rooting for you all the way, one of my absolute fav channels. Brought back memories n had to share. I think u have the best intro vid out of all. I tried that 72oz steak in the early 2000s when I was 16 and got thru about 48 oz and all the fixins. Main reason for not finishing is I had gotten it well done (since then I have evolved to med-rare). The drive back home to NC was ROUGH, we were rolling thru the rain with the windows down from all the steak farts 😂😂😂

There's an old steakhouse here in Portland, Oregon that has been doing the 72 oz. Challenge since the 1940s, I believe. My great Aunt Oney completed it in around 1960 and her picture is still on the wall. Oney owned a roadhouse in Elsie that catered to loggers and she never needed to hire a bouncer. She could out- drink, out- cuss and out- fight all of them. She died before I was born but she's still a legend in my family and Oney's Roadhouse is still around. It's famous for the huge Paul Bunyan sign.

Finnegan I just wanted to say to keep it up with the videos they are awesome! My dad and I have been a fan of roadkill for years and once I discovered your RU-vid channel I was very excited I can't help but laugh and smile when I watch your videos. I'm 14 and when I was born my dad bought me a 1965 Pontiac gto so we could work on it together. Your videos as well as roadkill have motivated us to create our car somewhat the way blasphemi is because we don't have much money to be fully restoring it. But we have a 463 cubic inch engine in it currently and we are hoping it will run low 11s on the strip. Just wanted to say to keep it up and I thank you for the encouragement and entertainment lol.

Having watched Roadkill from its humble beginnings. I am quite impressed with the editing skills Mike has acquired. Brake checking that Semi on the expressway almost looked real. Blasthemi has helped revive the drag racing industry with old school grudge match racing. Looking forward to the next excellent adventure.

Why won't the head gaskets seal ? Does it need O-rings ? I've followed this car for quite awhile now and as cool as it is, it has tortured you alot. It might be time for a big chevy

The Wing!! I had a Taylor Wing on an 84 Chevy Dually 454 that a tower a travel trailer with. The win was in head winds and it held highway speeds without extra peddle. No gain in MPH was due being able drive faster, net zero gain.

I sometimes wish I could afford to step up to more powerful and faster stuff than my ratty 440 Duster but watching videos like this give me comfort knowing that my shit does not break. Sure mine is slow @ low 11s and 120 mph with a single four barrel and pump gas but on the plus side, I get to drive it to and from the tracks, get in the staging lanes and make a bunch of runs and I don't even have to open the hood.

That was great. You must love that Hemi ,i have a sierra cosworth and had the engine in and out so many times i was dreaming about it. Nightmare . Im worried about no coolant lol👍. Good luck with that.

This seems like a good application for O rings and copper head gaskets with sealer.

I am just wondering if using Evans antifreeze would be a quick fix and work without pressuring up and leaking . It has no water in it and boils at over 400 degrees - radiator cap only needs to be 2 - 3 psi . Just a thought please no flames

Awesome stuff. Copper seal on an aluminum block/head could cause corrosion around the water passages though, if there is actually any copper in that stuff. Good work mate, I love looking at all of the parts when that engine is apart, they are all so sexy hahaha
