Hey Brian, glad you liked our music! Have to say, no idea where that ”post grunge” came from, we are pretty sure we have never used that label ourselves, but well, what can you do :D Props for a fun video!
OMGGGGG!!! My jaw just dropped broke into a million pieces and I cannot believe that you guys came across this video! Thank you so much! 😂😂😂 sorry, my girl and I are a single team and she puts together the biggest and most wanted bands in the countries and categorized them by what comes up on Google/what she hears. Thank you so much for dropping a comment, I am left with absolutely no words! This just made my day. You guys are KILLLLERRR! I was just watching a live performance of you all on RU-vid and I cannot wait to see you guys when you come to Florida! :)
the old joke holds true to this day: A German, a Frenchman, and a Finn go to the zoo. They stop by the elephant enclosure and look at the elephants. The German thinks to himself: "Can elephants hate?" The Frenchman thinks to himself: "Can elephants love?" The Finn thinks to himself: "I wonder what that elephant thinks of me?"
I know right! Especially some of their old, more emotional stuff is breathtaking (Cradled in Love, Given and Denied, Poet and the Muse, Where Do We Draw the Line - to name a few). I feel they deserve way more visibility.
@@glowner7878 well they have never really Been that big in Finland and neither really made international breakthrough like HIM, Rasmus or Nightwish did. Yes people recognize their music but never have they been anywhere near among The most popular bands here which I think is great shame.
You're wrong about Nightwish. The singer in the video was Anette, in The Phantom of the opera it was their first singer Tarja Turunen who was singing. Annette was their second singer and now they have another singer called Floor. You should do more Nightwish, more recent songs! How could you forget HIM ???? The best Finnish band ever imo. Unfortunately they disbanded last year, but they still have a huge loyal fan base all over the world. Join me in Death was their biggest hit, but they've done so many other incredible songs! I just love them forever. Please react to HIM next time!!!!
I think he's referring to different Phantom of the Opera though, you're right that Tarja was the one who sang it in Nightwish, but the song is originally by Andrew Lloyd Webber for the opera by the same name and in premiere it was sung by Sarah Brightman if I remember correctly (at least at some point she sung it)
@@Khaotika Yes you're right about that. And I have heard Sarah Brightman sing it many times. Didn't hear that he said movie, was only thinking about Nightwish lol.
and I didn't notice the "movie" either and assumed he was talking about the original :D in the Phantom of the Opera (2014) movie it was sung by Emmy Rossum
I've understood it's part of their image to have Finnish accent. Also some of their lyrics aren't the best English, there are many flaws in them, but they have decided not to correct them, but keep them as they were written. Even thought they sing in English, they don't try to be like native English speakers, they are Finnish and that's it.
Sunrise Avenue is probably my favourite band, you should listen to Fairytale gone bad (classic!), Heartbreak century, Welcome to my life, I help you hate me etc. :D they have so many great songs. But hearing you compare Samu's voice to Swedish accent... aaarrghhh
Sunrise Avenue is very popular in Europe, especially in Germany. The singed Samu Haber was even asked to join the Voice of Germany as one of the judges, which he did. He didn't even speak German when he decided to join, but learned it for the show. He instantly became a superstar in Germany. Talk about talent. He's a very likable person as well.
I'm from Finland and I love watching foreighners reacting to finnish music ❤ it somehow makes me proud and happy that you like our music and reminds me to appreciate it. Thank you!
Holy crap I had no idea that Hollywood Hills was by this band. This is such a worldwide known song I had no idea it was Finnish. Still didnt do HIM - “Join Me” though. It is such a classic song!
I didn't either (but it was also the first time to hear this song). I think their earlier hit (Fairytale Gone Bad) is better. But this was not that bad (they make usually good music).
HIM - Right Here In My Arms The 69 Eyes: Dead N' Gone Cheek - Timantit on ikuisia SANNI - Me ei olla enää me Chisu - Baden-Baden Haloo Helsinki! - Pulp Fiction SomBy: Ii Iđit vel
Nope, not with Nightwish, and I doubt it'll ever happen either. I know the current singer performed it on her own with other male metal singers in the past.
Yeah Tarja was the one singing there version of the song from Andrew Lloyd Webber's British musical with the same name. Webber's wife at the time the musical had premier in West End, Sarah Brightman was the one singing it then. The musical is based on the french book with the same name by Gaston Leroux.
Very old ... :) Rock'n'Roll is from the 50's (as a mainstream music). And that's young in the history of music. And all pop, heavy etc. is based on that. Well, with some spicies from other styles of music.
I remember seeing it for the first time and thinking the guy with dreads looked like such a grown up, but now I was shocked at what a kid he actually was X'D I've gotten old
Omg thank you so much for including Sunrise Avenue, this is my favourite band of all time😭😍 greetings from Germany, the boys are very popular over here😊
Your reactions are delightful! You seem so happy about Finnish music that it makes me smile :) I'm gonna throw in some older music (mostly rock), because this is the stuff I was raised on. Hanoi Rocks - Up Around the Bend (glam rock/rock) music video from 1984, so the quality ain't that high Hurriganes - Shorai Shorai (rock) no music video but the song's from 1979. BTW, the name's "Shorai Shorai" only because of the accent, originally it was meant to be "It's alright, it's alright" TikTak - Kyyneleet (pop) a school time classic from early 2000s Aikakone - Odota (eurodance/pop) just nostalgia from 1995 Leevi and the Leavings - Teuvo maanteiden kuningas (rock) from late 1980s. The best thing about Leevi and the Leavings are the tragicomic lyrics which sadly do not come across unless you know Finnish, but I think the sound is interesting enough.
Up Around the Bend is a cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival song by the same name, so I would rather recommend Tragedy by Hanoi Rocks, which I think is a better song anyway.
Dude, about Poets of the fall, I have seen them 20 times live in Finland and Germany, and will go to Germany again in October to see them 5 more times!!! They are INCREDIBLE!! I'm so glad you found them! Unfortunately, they don't tour USA yet, even after 15 years going strong in Europe. They need FM mainstream air play and most stations won't give an unknown band in the USA air time, no matter their European status. I run the USA street team for them and we are trying really hard to spread the word. I will pass along this video to some FM stations and maybe they will give them a chance! Also, what you just experienced is what we fans call the Poets of the Fall phenomenon, it just over takes you :D Welcome aboard!! Added: Also, the lyrics of Poets of the Fall surpass any band I know. Every album just blows me away!
Korpiklaani - rauta battlebeast - touch in the night Turisas - Stand up and fight Jenni Vartiainen - Missä muruseni on Johanna Kurkela - Kuolevainen Haloo Helsinki! - Beibi SANNI - Me ei olla enää me Vesala - Tequila Nightwish - Taikatalvi TUOMAS HOLOPAINEN - A Lifetime of Adventure SONATA ARCTICA - I Have A Right Mokoma - Kuu Saa Valtansa Auringolta APULANTA - Ravistettava ennen käyttoä
Hi, awesome video, thank you for that! :) Here is a few songs from different genres that I think could fit the third video if you happen to keep doing these: Cheek - Timantit on ikuisia (he ended his career last weekend and is pretty much the most famous mainstream musician/rapper in Finland) Petri Nygård - Selvä Päivä ft. Lord Est (rap/party style song) Evelina - Kylmii Väreitä (pop) Apulanta - Pahempi Toistaan (rock) Santa Cruz - Young Blood Rising (hard/glam(?) rock) Amorphis - The Bee (metal, also u should listen to at least 2.30 since there is two different type of clean vocal choruses ps. there's also a lot of growling in the song) These are all in the newer side of Finnish music (except maybe Apulanta), but there is also many awesome classics to choose from but I tried to keep my list short. Keep doing reactions to music from different countries!
As a huge fan of Poets of the Fall, I'm so happy that you enjoyed listening to them. They sadly don't do tours in the US, but I hope to see then live one day.
More finnish songs to react Apulanta - Pahempi Toistaan (or almost any other song) Pikku G - Me ollaan nuoriso Ievan Polkka (maybe performed by loituma)
Damn I love Poets of the fall. They give me chills everytime with their epic songs. And the singer is very good actor in their amazing music videos : D
Whoever picked "Amaranth" over "The Sleeping Sun" or "Bless the Child" should be fired. Or "Nemo", or "Wish I Had an Angel". Yeah, the last one would've been the best. For your next video, try a band called Amorphis. Either "Silver Bride" or "House of Sleep". Also a song called "Clouds" by Redrama is awesome. And definitely some Apocalyptica song, probably should try either "I'm not Jesus" feat. Corey Taylor(yes, that Corey Taylor), or "I don't care" feat Adam Gontier. If you want something in that's in finnish, I'd recommend "Boom Kah" by Robin. :D You could also listen to Johanna Kurkela, who is the wife of Tuomas Holopainen, the composer/keyboard player for Nightwish. (Yes, the nipple man!) "Sudenmorsian" is an amazing song. OH! I have one more, then I'll shut up. "Up Around the Bend" by Hanoi Rocks.
More finnish songs: Sunrise avenue - fairytale gone bad Tippa - roska silmäs feat. JVG Robin - hula hula feat. Nelli Matula Especially I recommend to you Sunrise avenue. It's an amazing band.
I knew you will like Sunrise Avenue! I just knew that!! Next Apocalyptica, The Rasmus and HIM together" Bittersweet", please! Best wishes from Estonia!
Poets Of The Fall is the best band. They're actually my favorite band of all time. They're just great. Also, "post grunge" may not be the best genre to categorize them in. They are basically "alternative rock", though, they can branch out and do many other sounds. Super talented band.
I don't know where you take the genres for these songs, but categorizing Poets of the Fall to Post-Grunge is quite weird choice. I was quite surprised that you compared Marko Saaresto (the lead singer of PotF, BTW he's not bald IRL :D ) to David Draiman from Disturbed, as they are very different, but both sure do have very distinct voices. I personally I love both bands. Also while Amaranth was a decent choice for Nightwish, I think it didn't quite feel right for this purpose, as the lead singer for that song isn't Finnish. Instead I would love to see you react to their older music, which still has Tarja Turunen as the lead singer, for example songs like Nemo, Wish I had an angel, and Wishmaster. Other bands/songs that I would love to see you react to are HIM - Right here in my arms, HIM - Wings of a butterfly, HIM - Under the rose, Apocalyptica - Bittersweet, Don Huonot - Seireeni, Eppu Normaali - Baarikärpänen, Apulanta - Viisaus ei asu meissä, Stam1na - Lääke.
Considering that the time limit is 2 minutes, there are basically only a handful of Nightwish songs that even get out of the intro in that time ;) OK, a "slight" overexaggeration! I think Apocalyptica, HIM and Amorphis are the big ones missing, and then something by Eppu Normaali, Sielun Veljet etc. But we are happy to have had this much, at least :)
Thank you sooooo much Finlande for such amazing bands !! Him, Nightwish ans others.. I cannot imagine my life withoit their music. Greetings from Russia🤘❤❤❤
They're all finnish bands but only one of them was sung in finnish. Why? :( I give my vote to Apulanta! A song Pahempi toistaan or Valot pimeyksien reunalla or Armo. Also great songs are: Maj Karma - Ukkonen Kotiteollisuus - Helvetistä Itään Viikate - Viina, terva & hauta Chisu - Kohtalosta itään Cheek - Sokka irt Btw, did you know Apocalyptica is from Finland? ;)
JVG (Old name Jare and Ville-Galle) is a duo. And the third guy who sings at the chorus is Teemu Brunila (or that the ppl think) Bomfunk MC is a old band back from the 90's You should next to listen: Teemu Brunilas old band, The Crash - Lauren caught my eye (Teemu is also singing in Studio Killers) HIM - Join Me In Death Apocalyptica - I Don't Care ft. Adam Gontier
This video is unbelievable!! I feel like I'm in a rollercoaster driving by old good memorys (Freestyler is finnish? WHAAAAT?? This song will never not be cool!) and discovering new and beautiful songs (Carnival of Rust made me tear up, its so fantastic!). Thank you RU-vid for suggesting it!!!
I love the fact that you actually listened to something like Poets of the Fall and not just the top hits which just make me embarrassed.... :D You should definitely do part 3! And include some Pariisin Kevät. Matkalla Etelään or something like that.
I love Sunrise Avenue so much! I will finally see them live for the first time this month, unfortunately it's their last tour ever but I'm glad I still got the chance to see them 🥰
@@katipertel9621 oh, okey. Well he could still react to them. Maybe some song he hasn't heard in a while or something. No one ever reacts to Him so thats why it would be cool.
Jonna Savolainen I know, HIM is one of my favourite bands all the times. Ville deserves all attention to him and even more. I don't know it is first reaction video or just a reaction video?
Definitely try the band Apulanta. :) Maybe 'Hei hei mitä kuuluu', but others have proposed other good songs too. If you are fond of odd concepts, maybe: Soul captain band - Mitä suurempi puu At least if the concept of Finnish reggae is odd enough for you. :D And there would be a lot of Finnish tango - check Täysikuu by Olavi Virta or Satumaa by Reijo Taipale - although the main audience for Tango are 60+ and Kaurismäki movies nowadays.
Good Stuff! Next time please react one of these: Yö - Joutsenlaulu Egotrippi - Matkustaja Elastinen - Anna sen soida Raappana - Maasta maahan Aurora - Se soi Pikku G - Solmussa Disco - Levottomat tuulet
If you want to listen to more of Poets of the Fall, they are releasing a new album in a little over a month, including a new single in about a week! There is more to the band than what you hear from one song, they release all their albums as trilogies and both the songs and their artwork (album covers etc.) are full of little easter eggs and references. While Marko (the vocalist) is a very talented singer, the main selling point of the band is in the lyrics and how they're all connected to each other. If you want another song suggestion, I recommend Cradled in Love by them.
Cool that you reacted to Sunrise Avenue! They used to be one of my favorite bands ever! And I'm actually glad that you listened to one of their older songs because in my opinion they lost a little track with their new music. Check out their stuff from the early early days, that's the Sunrise Avenue Spirit! :)
Poets of the Fall is amazing live!! I've seen them multiple times and Carnival of Rust never fails to make me cry, it's INCREDIBLE live... Much love from Finland!
Thank you for these 2 videos, I've enjoyed them so much! :) Personal comments: 1st: I love the first song "tarkenee" although I'm not a huge hip hop/rap fan as you said it's such an uplifting song and people go crazy when they play it at clubs! So many fun memories from that song!! 2nd: As people have pointed out the original singer of Nightwish was Tarja Turunen, and once she was replaced with Anette it was highly frowned upon. People (including me) thought she was too "pop" for the hard rock band.
You have such a passion for music that it's just wholesome to watch! This video brought me such fluffy feels. I hope you'll do a part 3 and listen to more recent songs that we have! These are all ageless and good, but still a tad old.
Like your video! And I love Sunrise Avenue, especially this song. Heard it on the radio so many times when I grew up! Would be cool if you could do this with Swedish music as well!
Oh yessss, part 3 please! We finns love when someone explores finnish culture and the language. You should have Antti Tuisku in your next vid, maybe a song called swäg. It also has JVG in it!
This is how these music reactions should be done. You simply are the best in my opinion when it comes to the way you've done this video. I didn't even know Poets of the fall or them to be finnish. Only heard it on the radio a lot through my childhood.
Part 3 please :) Nightwish "The Phantom Of The Opera ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8VgLKXD-BoY.html Sonata Arctica - Tallulah Ensiferum - lai lai hei Ensiferum - lady in black Turisas - Rasputin Fear Of Domination - Obsession Lordi - Bloodred sandman Anssi kela - nummela Apulanta - Pahempi toistaan Lovex - Guardian Angel Evelina - Honey ft. Mikael Gabriel Saara Aalto -Monsters Anna Abreu - Ra-ta ta-ta Arttu Wiskari - Mökkitie Cristal Snow - Cristal Clear Movetron - Romeo ja Julia
I was on Poets of the Fall live concert last summer and they did perform Carnival of Rust and it was so beautiful hearing it live. Marko Saaresto has very unique and beautiful sound.
To have a little peak into ancient mythology of Finland, I recommend a Folk Metal song; Korpiklaani - Lempo Or alternatively Korpiklaani - Ukon Wacka. I also recommend Poets of the Fall - Beautiful Ones. As for Rap, Nikke Ankara - Perjantai 13.
Please keep making these! I rarely actually enjoy any content on youtube these days but these vids actually make me smile and make me feel warm inside, thank u thank u thank u
Apulanta - Armo Cmx, kotiteollisuus, 51 koodia - Vapaus johtaa kansaa Kolmas nainen - Tästä asti aikaa Kirka - Hengaillaan For some reggae Keko Salata - ilmasta lovee
Just found this channel and totally love it. A finn living far from home in Australia these tunes teleported me right back where Iäm from. Canät wait to see more of your videos.
Damn ... this really takes me back. Even though I'm Finnish, I can't believe that I've forgotten all these great bands like the Poets of the Fall for instance. Thanks for this reminder !
Great videos! Here are some more Finnish song suggestions: Don Johnson Big Band - Running Man Jess and the Ancient Ones - Astral Sabbat Stratovarius - The Land of Ice and Snow Galaxion - Through the Space Yö - Rakkaus on Lumivalkoinen
Thank you for loving finnish music, i have pleasure seeing poets of the fall live two times allready, and for sure seeing them again. And their new album is mind blowing :)
Finnish music is actually very popular in Europe (i also hope that in the whole world) - plus there's soooo many kinds of this music it's just amazing. And i know plenty of songs that i didn't even suspect to be from Finland :D congrats and love from Poland 😁💕🇫🇮🇵🇱
Turmion Kätilöt - Sikiö Apulanta - Mitä kuuluu Lasten Hautausmaa - Onnellinen hullu Pää kii - Ees jotain positiivista Avain - Punainen tiili Irwin Goodman - Työmiehen lauantai
As you seemed to react a lot of Finnish stuff made me to subscribe. Me as an Finnish guy who likes to stay in the states it’s kind of pleasure to see. Keep up the vids mate!
Hi, There has been three female singers in Nightwish - first one was Tarja Turunen who sang in the song phantom of the opera, in this video the singer is Anette Olson (Sweden), and in the picture that you see before the video is Floor Jansen (Netherlands) who is the current singer of Nightwish.
A BIG MEGA YES! Please do part 3! I would love to see your reaction on children of bodom, Sonata arctica, the new Nightwish with the new singer, catamenia, turisas, charon. Just to name some good artist! Please review!
@@Busha69 I do like Floor and I do think she might "save" Nightwish, but for me the magic is gone for me because I really liked Tarjas classically trained voice in conjunction with the heavy and/or "spiritual" sound of old Nightwish. I would not say that Floor is better, but she is different and has a different take on the music, I do wish she would use more of her classical voice than she does now.
Kinda surprised by your statement, The transition with Annette was rough indeed, not because she wasn't talented but imo her voice didn't fit the nightwish we know. But damn, have you checked the lives with Floor ? Ghost love score in wacken for example, to me not only is she incredibly talented, she also respects the timings way better than tarja imo :o
HIM- WINGS OF A BUTTERFLY ( GOTH METAL/ALTERNATIVE METAL/HARD ROCK) HIM- JOIN ME HIM- KILLING LONELINESS Apocalytptica ft Adam Gontier(THREE DAYS GRACE)- i DON`T CARE Within Temptation ft Tarja Turunen ( ex/first singer of Nightwish) - What about us? APULANTA - Pahempi Toistaan Jean Sibelius- Finlandia Lauri-Heavy Neljä Ruusua- Mustia Ruusuja Egotrippi- Matkustaja Johanna Kurkela- Kuolevainen Eppu Normaali- Näin Kulutan Aikaa Happoradio- Puhu äänellä jonka kuulen Cheek- Keinu
You should definitely do a third one!!! Could you react to HIM? I've never heard a song I didn't love by them, they have a completely different sound from any other band I've heard and they created their own genre of music. Linde's guitar just stops your heart and Ville's voice can just melt your soul. It's crazy man, it all melds together so well. Every single member of HIM created this unique sound that builds off of each other perfect in every song. Safe to say that HIM is one of my favorite bands xD
