I feel that K-markets are always a bit fancier and they have more nicer special products from local small companies. Also K-markets are run by entrepreneurs.
@themaster1670
@themaster1670 6 лет назад
Depends really. Like you said, K-Markets are ran by entrepreneurs so some K-markets are better than others, and I feel like their prices are much higher is smaller towns than in S-markets where they sort of have a regional pricing instead of a local one.

K-stores have a bit more expensive stuff but they have a lot more things on sale. S-stores(s-market, sale, prisma etc. ) have little bit cheaper prices but a lot less sales. It would be a more fair comparison if you compared their own brands (pirkka, rainbow, k-menu) and compared things that are on sale. Anyway liked the video! :)
@RuuttiFI
@RuuttiFI 6 лет назад
To add to this comment, K- and S-markets have different corporate structure. K-markets have more freedom to choose their selection in a particular store compared to S-markets, that have little to no say on what's on their shelves locally. I don't know if there are studies made, but that might be the reason why it at least seems like K-markets have a wider selection of products. It is why I prefer K-markets over S-markets even though they are a bit more expensive. Also, because of it, K-market is more likely to get product to the shelves when requested, for example, if I wanted a particular brand and taste of juice to be easy to buy at my local store(within reason of course, but K-markets have more power to realistically consider it).

@Basari: Tuota viiden prosentin bonusta ei kyllä S-kaupoista ainakaan saa ellei osta vähintään about tonnilla kuussa niiltä.

I feel like there's even big of a difference between Prisma and Citymarket. We always went to Citymarket until about a year ago when we had to take a closer look on our budget. The biggest difference that I've seen in the products we use is the price of Pepsi Max. I usually go with the 2-pack. In Prisma the price is 2,59€, while in Citymarket the same 2-pack costs 4,50 something euros. 1 bottle of Pepsi Max costs 2,10€? in Prisma, while it's over 2,50 in Citymarket. That was a mindblowing find. After that we've started to take a closer look on the other product prices aswell and you save a fuck ton of money when shopping in Prisma instead. But yeah, we've found Prisma + Lidl combination working for us the best. Also if you're trying to save money, always check the price/kg/l or whatever it is. Nowadays that's what I'm looking at first instead of the actual price of that certain product.

@@jennanarhi4814 Mostly yes, but on the other hand Lidl has the same prices in every store across the country which makes it easy to compare with any market in any size anywhere. The 0,04 € difference in product prices is in some cases the result of S Group's "halpuutus" (cheapening) campaign a couple of years ago. Good for customers but many of the original producers complained that it was cut from their share, not the S Group's own share. The main difference between the two chains is that S stores are owned by a co-operative company so everyone with the green bonus card is "an owner", whereas the K stores are owned by private entrepreneurs who have joined together to get better leverage on the market. So each K store has a shop-keeper who actually personally owns everything, decides what to sell and at which price. I want to support private entrepreneurship which is why I choose K when possible.

I always go to Prisma. I think Citymarket is a bit more posh which I like. For example in Citymarket there are always some free samples but never in Prisma, but Citymarket is a lot further than Prisma for me. S-Market is a branch of Prisma but their selection is a lot smaller. K markets are branches of Citymarket but again they have a smaller selection. In Citymarket it is also impossible to find anything. Their arrangement makes no sense. In Prisma there is an app that I can use to find shit whenever I cant find it in store so no need to talk to anybody. Especially when my finnish is about as good as Daves.

I've done a comparison with Citymarket and Prisma and Prisma overall has cheaper products but K-stores have way more sales for the Plussa-card holder that benefit you immediately. And they also send you personalized offers for products you frequently buy (including freebies), so you get those cheaper occasionally. Prisma doesn't have everything I like to buy and our local one is old and cramped, so I prefer to shop at the citymarket since it's roomy, modern, there are more cash registers working and the lines are never as long. I say the comfort wins for me over the price. I actually used to go to Prisma, but at some point the products I buy every week were always gone, so I switched stores.

I personally don't want to pay extra of the excatly same products, so I buy from Prisma. The shop keeper of the Citymarket Kupittaa (closest to me) earns 2 million euros every year. I don't think that I as a student should pay 10% extra of the products to support this kind of entrepreneurship. S-group makes less profit and it invests almost all of it to new shops etc. which is good for the society. Also it is false information that S-group takes the halpuutus from farmers cut, they have told that million times. Just like Kesko and Lidl they try to buy cheapest price possible, but they did not cut the farmers money. I think you can't even compare Lidl to Kesko and S-group, beacuse you can't buy anything from there. I eat gluten free food and it is really hard to buy all I need from there. I think S-group is the best possible place to buy your food.

I also don't like the K's way to have certain products on sale every week. I don't want to buy products on sale to get reasonable price, I want to by products that taste good and fit to my diet and expect those to be cheap, whether I buy them today or next week. S-bonus also gives you a lot better benefits than plussa.

Now before watching your test, what I think (from my own experience) is that Lidl should be the cheapest with ease. That's where the immigrated people especially like to shop (perhaps because the products are more familiar as well? But definitely the cheapest). The competition got more even when Lidl forced the old chains, S and K, to lower their prices, because people weren't taking their profit margins anymore when there was Lidl around. That was some time between 2010 and 2020 I recall. Some product prices dropped as much in price as multiple euros. If comparing regular products and leaving the store's "signature" products out (pirkka, rainbow, I think x-tra, maybe kotimaista), S-market should be cheaper. I tend to go to S-market and get shocked when I see K-market prices every now and then. HOWEVER there's a catch, of course there is. K-markets have weekly sales on changing products with Plussa card (the customer ownership card) and those sale prices are noticeably cheaper. I'm not exactly sure if K-chain has identical prices throughout the stores, but with S-chain you should have the same price all the way from Sale to Prisma. On the other hand, at least for me, I don't even know how to use the Plussa points you get from using their card, it should have shopping power but I don't know how many I have/get and how to use them, where and when and how long until they expire. S-market has their S-card which has clear indications of how much monetary value you get out of your points and how much more depending on how much you shop (it scales upwards), at the end of the month they pay it on your bank account. That's super easy. You also get the S-benefits from multiple places: S-chain stores, restaurants, bars, gas stations, Elisa phone and internet service, you name it. So considering that in general S-market tends to be cheaper, their customer ownership program is much easier to use and understand and has a wide range. Then there's the "signature" products. It seems that K--market has only Pirkka, but it seems to me that S-market has x-tra, rainbow and kotimaista. I'm not sure if others than rainbow are actually their own brand or just some brand that isn't on other stores. I'm not sure which one are cheaper, perhaps depends on the product, but what I can say is that after the beginning, rainbow has become almost equivalent to the "normal" products in many products. You still have to try out and see where you want "the real deal" and where you want rainbow, but there are some gems like frozen herb and garlic baguette! With Pirkka I've never liked their products tastewise, perhaps there are some that I just don't know, but they seem to always fall below the regular products. Especially horrendous are ketchup and coffee. Honorific mention to Pirkka III Lager beer which is actually pretty good and cheap, if you don't mind the first bite of "keittokinkku" (boiled ham) smell. I swear, if you buy HK Keittokinkku ham slices for bread, the smell is identical. Now having compared rainbow and pirkka, there's still x-tra and kotimaista. I never buy x-tra if I want quality, those products are cheap but you'll know why when you buy them. I sometimes use the x-tra shredded cheese for food but it's not great tasting. Maybe crackers from x-tra are fine. Lastly, there's kotimaista. Superb product. Simply amazing. It's significantly cheaper than the regular products, but it seems to be of identical quality. And it spread over all kinds of products: meat, milk, eggs, bread ham slices, everything everyday groceries. I can whole-heartedly recommend their products. To sum up this quite lengthy analysis, I personally chose S-market over K-market for the combination of cheaper on regular basis, easier bonus system and superb "signature" products. Or perhaps I should call them in-house products? I don't know the proper terms. Especially for family households with various expenses other than grocery store and spending quite a bit on groceries per month as well. That said, I removed "no ads" sticker on my door just to get the K-supermarket brochure every wednesday to potentially grab some nice in sale item. For example pretty often there's salmon for 10e/kg which is as cheap as it gets (although it often is from norway and vacuum sealed instead of absolutely fresh from finland). And they pretty regularly have candy in sale for 5e/kg as well, so despite rarely eating candy, I might venture there and end up with a 1 kg bag of candy without noticing. Eager to see what your test found out, happy shopping! Edit after watching: When you talk about liver casserole box, you'll have to remember when rounding up, that it's only if you pay in cash and only buy that specific product. Because when you pay on card and have a full cart of products that are 1 cent cheaper and would be individually rounded to the next number up, together they're first summed up and only then rounded up, so you accumulate that small edge to something concrete. The result didn't surprise me. You can probably find bigger differences as well. If you don't know how to use the Plussa points, the S-benefit will net you (if you're a single and don't shop food extensively) from roughly 3 euros to (if you're a family with various type of expenses) over 10 euros per month. Trivia: Oivariini is now called Oivariini instead of Voimariini as it used to be called (butter + margarine, voi + margariini, voimariini), because some board told them they don't have enough butter in the product to have butter in the name. Meaning it doesn't have animal fat but margarine, vegetable oil.

I think that K-Market might be a bit cheaper when buying normal priced products (I'm ignoring all the bonus card bonuses for this comparison) while S-Market is cheaper if you buy things from the afternoon sale (60% off from foodstuffs that are on sale or in the store bakery after 8 or 9 pm). Edit: or maybe not. Maybe the bonuses balance it out? K-Market seems to have more bonus card discounts.

Mielenkiintoista. Hauska video. XD Bonukset maksalaatikolle! Would be interesting to do this with organic products since my mother is kind of biased. So most of our stuff is organic, and always Arla, Pirkka or Rainbow or that if you can choose other than Valio. Overall we aim on supporting little brands over large ones to keep the economic competition alive. Usually we just try to figure in which store the product is the cheapest and go get it there since they're pretty close to each other. Also noticed Lidl sells the cheapest butter if you want it organic, and it's even the less salted version!?!? What? :O But it's not like I'd casually walk a little more and patiently wait at the traffic lights to get a better option, unfortunately... Laziness is such a pest, haha. Personally though I a bit more like the S-market, the vastness of K-market and the bright lights set up some 'torikauhu' mood. ^^ The most calming 'groceries' are the organic ones. You just feel no rush there, too bad what is healthy and 'nature-friendly' is so expensive...

I laughed my ass off at 2:50 😂 But that’s true what other viewers has said. K-Markets has more often special offers than S-Markets. I also prefer K-Markets more than S-Markets myself, because every K-Market has their own shop keeper. I want to support their business and work. S-Markets has only shop managers because the S-Company is cooperative chain. They just target to destroy shop keepers and small businesses. Their ”too cheap local food” is also making a lot of pressure among Finnish farmers.

Well, our family has switched between the two (Lidl doesn't really work for a family with limited diets thanks to allergies etc.) several times, but these days I use mostly K-supermarket, since that's the closest store and I like scanning the offers at home as I'm making the shopping list, which I can't do on the S-app. Also, getting good offers on things I buy regularly and are personalized for me is where the price difference shows, since we rarely bought enough to gain the -5% from the S-stores anyway.

Some reasons why I go to S-market or Prisma: - cheaper - visiting hours are longer - bonus system is easily best in Finland - (single)app offers real benefits (no receipt, bank services, insurance services, gas refilling without cash or card, etc) - generally aisles are more convincing, no useless products where you should walk

Not surprised. Also, I prefer to make my own pea soup. Buy dried peas and whatever I choose to put in. Onion, garlic, smoked pork etc.

I do my mainly shopping at Lidl because it's the cheapest, but I cannot find some products in there (such as certain bag of chips or candy; or some lactose-free products), so those I buy from some other big market, whichever is the closest to my home or the Lidl I shop in (I don't have a car, so I use the bus or my bike to get around), whether it'd be Citymarket, Supermarket, Prisma or S-Market. I use those small K-Markets that are everywhere only for small purchases like a snack I'm going to eat right away, because they're everywhere but they're not as cheap…

"Vapaan kanan muna" is _not_ free range eggs, free range is in finnish ulkokanan muna, "outside chickens egg". The difference between them is huge, "vapaan kanan muna" chickens never see the outside world and live in very small spaces (the branding is utterly misinforming), when free range chicken can go outside every day of the year. And that's why they cost so much more, you just bought different categories. Other than that, lovely video once again ❤️

K-Market can be better because each K-Market is like its on business with a "owner" (of course its ultimately owned by Kespro) while s-markest don't. Because of this the K-Markets usually have way better meat and fish supplies

The thing with Arina shops is that the smaller the shop, more expensive the products. If you had gone to a Prisma or Sokos, you would have found out that those exact products would have been cheaper.

I kinda had a hunch that the S-market was going to be a bit cheaper. At least Prismas (which is part of the S chain) are a bit cheaper than the K Citymarkets. My personal favourite is Pick 'n' Pay, but they don't have a store in every city.

I prefer Prisma is cheapest if you buy food like for a week. Ive used Foodie (app) and k-ruoka verkkokauppa to compare the prices and there is always like at least 10€ difference.

If you got S-Bonus card you get a lot of money back in every month + 20e in every year even if you dont use it. And you get the bonus from a lot of places. From Elisa your phone and internet bill. ABC gas stations from gas etc etc. the list goes forever on. I get about 8e in a month back and i dont even spend a lot.

Finnish supermarkets are a mess... Prices are incomparable because K has special offers which S doesn't have. Their own brands also make a difference. On top of that you must take into account the Plussa and Bonus cards and whether you fuel your car at ABC or not (don't even get into gas prices). Students (university+polytechnic) get 5% plussa which is a lot more than S-bonus gives back to a student household. I go to Prisma and ABC because I drive but if I didn't I would go to Lidl for sure!

The S Markets are run by a big company and The K Markets are run by The Owner and they can choose what to have and how to price it but the S Markets have The samer orders everywhere. And most of the time k markets have more specialiced stuff and more stuff in general like for an example more stuff local and other stuff

Except for the fact that S-market keeps saying in their commercials that they keep lowering their prices when in reality the farmers are already getting almost nothing and S-market is just making it worse. One of their newest commercials is about asking people if they would like chicken to be cheaper, how about asking people if farmers need money to feed their families.

K citymarket of course. Best variety of products, but some of the prices and products will be different even if they suppose to be the same in every shop. I have two citymarkets in near me, but in the other the shop packed meats like beef and pork filets are almost double the price and in generally it is slightly more expensive, but it has a really warm parking hall and I use it in winter to melt my car.
