this guy's fine you all are nuts it's actually good that he's mellow cuz he lets the guest talk and he doesn't constantly interrupt and throw off their train of thought. a lot of interviewers make the mistake of jumping in every 2 seconds and then its just a lot of stops and starts that never go anywhere this guy's fine he is mellow and yes some good questions about how she writes music with the melody in the cadence thing and it was interesting and that's fine you're all nuts saying he is creepy
hell yeah. this is one of the best fiona interviews out there; it proceeds in a much more journalistic way than most. people get too set in the casualty of most tv-interviews and forget that there are other sorts of exchanges to be had, and that long-form journalism interviews are, for the interviewers, more about listening than inserting their own personality. people also forget that video interviews in which the interviewer is cut and the clips are only monologues from the subject have a faceless question-asker at all. this is like those, only you see the guy's face & hear his voice. the exchange doesn't have to be about a superficial chemistry forged between interviewer and interviewee for the sake of the territory of the show itself. remove that, and something else happens entirely, and it is perfect.
Are you kidding me?! Yes he intact intercepted her quite a few times. He was filling in for someone else and never interviewed before it turns out. He sucked. He was rude and interpreted to end the interview at the end. Re watch it. Seriously. If this was your job...would you have felt you would be fired afterwards? I know I would. I'm not even experienced but I'd have been knowledgeable of her and had done better with a connection and enthusiasm. He's moolnotone, rude, short and blunt and intruotive and ends the whole thing out of nowhere. The dude sucked worse than a bissel!
chris P I’m just glad that asswipe charlie wasn’t there. Even before we found out he was a pervert I couldn’t stand him. Such a freaking overrated moron
The guy interviewing sucks. It still kept my interest because Fiona herself give valuable time and I respect that. I'm glad I kept watching because she was still open honest and amazing.
I know that poetry doesn't have to rhyme but I agree with Fiona. It's so fascinating when you make the sentences rhyme and they work together perfectly - both in music and poetry.
When I first saw her in the 90's I thought she was the most beautiful creature I'd ever seen. Coupled with her awesome personality, she is still to this day...the girl of my dreams. She is so incredible. I was at the SAG awards as a guest chef in 1996 or so and this babe was standing by herself right next to me enjoying the show. I took a second look of course...and it was Fiona. I couldn't even say a word, I knew my voice would crackle if I tried to speak! I missed my one chance! Life sucks.
@12:11 I don't know how this guy could go from asking about the mirror, an intimate piece of her childhood that she unraveled the threads of her budding mind & soul of an artist in front of, to thank-you-bye in 2 seconds.
I think this is my favorite Fiona interview and I've seen absolutely every one of them. Why is it so short though? Aren't Charlie Rose interviews typically an hour? Is there more to this video that isn't here?
"Short version or the long version or the mid-size version of why it took so long to come out." That, apparently, was the interviewer's first question. :-/
I see people talking about the interviewer, but actually I think he made it a lot easier to fiona to express herself, she´s such an introverted person, even shy, I don´t think she´d feel comfortble with someone too expansive.
Fiona is absolutely hysterical in this interview and she knows that the interviewer is kind of a stiff...I think she's laughs a little, under her breath, when she looks at him. Way for to go Fiona for being yourself...I laughed aloud with the "going through your draws and showing your underwear to the class" example.
this is a good intellectual interview. just bc hes not fake smiling the entire time and asking her what her favorite color is doesn't mean this is a bad interview or interviewer.. grow up ppl..
LOL! I was just thinking how boring this guy is. So bleh and blank. Devoid of all personality, he sounds like a frigging dehumanized robot. How could you sit in front of Fiona and still be so boring!
I never fully contemplated killing myself until after watching this interview and suddenly imagined this man asking me stuff every single day, for the rest of my life, in a locked room.
Catarina Isabel this was posted like a year ago so i don't know if you're even still alive but I figured you should know that this legit made me laugh out loud really hard at 5:00am. Thank you.
@@dabunnydabunny1243 In a tragic coincidence, Catarina ended up stuck on an elevator and was interviewed for 4 hours by Sasha Frere-Jones before repair crews could mount a rescue. Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to charity.
If you're going to fill in for Charlie at least wear a fucking tie. Oh, and learn how to not make the guest feel awkward. Great interview though, I love listening to her talk about the adventures of being an artist with integrity :)
I'm more then half way through this video and I can't help think how dry the guy is with his questions and he keeps interrupting the answers to the questions he's asked Ms Apple 🍎 is just grand though!
ikr he sounded like a cold ass robot lol, but yes Fiona was delightful. I wanted the interview to be longer too, seemed like when he said it was over Fiona was like well ok I didn't get to speak on much but w/evz
@sheshines4all Nomatter what she decides to do, she is an authentic, modern legend. She will always be a brilliant songwriter & musician. There are alot of singers/artists who are...lets just say priceless. Who are either dropped, or go unnoticed. There are ppl who are willing to do anything for fame or money, & then those that just wanna do what they love while being themselves. Those are THE MOST BEAUTIFULLY TALENTED PPL. Superficiality seems to be more profitable than substance nowadays.
I love fiona always and forever.even though i heard (correct me if i'm wrong) recently that sony did drop her completely.which for sony is a big loss.because she is so original, classic, legendary, beautiful, fucking everything.fiona is one of my favorite performers.and if its true that she is no longer signed with a label,i pray she finds another and continues with her brilliant writing and music.she is one of the best singers of our time, and that talent shouldn't be wasted.fiona u r fucking great.
I really appreciated and enjoyed listening and learning about Fiona's recording experience and everything she talks about after that. 100% to her 🙌🏻❤️. The gentleman interviewing her however needs to be replaced. Horrible! I'm sorry but even if your inexperienced and filling in for someone...he sounds dead inside and dead right to the camera! Cmon man!!! Sorry I feel the need to expresss that he really irritated me due to his Disrespect and how he cut her off at the end. She's amazing and I only kept watching this because of her. And because she's garnered that respect enough that no matter whose a shitty interviewer I'll always give Fiona's the time to always watch what she's given her time towards.
I just don't understand how someone who goes decades without making an album is still signed to a record label like sony, let alone still has fans. She just got so lucky in the 90s.
Marissa F Yes, she did get lucky. Who in this industry has not gotten lucky and reached success anyway? Nobody. But she is very good at what she does, she is a very talented musician.
Let us not discount the fact that she had a telegenic face and figure that appealed to MTV programmers. Her immense early success could hardly have been founded on vocal or songwriting talent alone.
Fiona opened up and revealed details. While another interviewer might have attempted to guide the interview, he actually allowed her to expand on her thought processes.
Interesting how Fiona felt what "Free Fiona" did was a great thing but at the same time, she felt it was "..like someone's going through your drawers... Kind of crappy thing to do." I wonder how she feels about current fans giving ALL her music away for free on youtube, while she isn't even touring anymore. The money she could make of her music has probably plummeted 90 percent.
+pauletteleroy Actually Rose is a pretentious lightweight, and the idea of him interviewing Apple would be pretension times 2 and really hard to watch or listen to. This guy is low-key and doing his best.
Well, I think both are highly overrated. Let's just put it that way. Fiona at least is a musician. I am amazed that Rose has the stature he does as a newsman and interviewer. I think he especially sucks at the latter.
***** I understand what you are saying and yet I have seen CHarlie give good interviews before..as far as Fiona, I have always liked her music and her talent so I suppose we are divided there. Do you have a favorite person that is, in your opinion, a good interviewer and what kind of musicians would you rather see on here?
talent rarely goes unnoticed. great song writing from perspective of female. rare. but sex means nothing from the interest of art. her parents molded a sculpture.
She's so genuine and kind, and he is treating her with such a lack of respect - who even is this robot prick. Can he just not - ever again? UGH. I seriously hope he doesn't get money for this.
SONY. YOU DO NOT TELL FIONA FUCKING APPLE SHE NEEDS HAND IN HER SONGS ONE AT A TIME LIKE A FUCKING FOURTH GRADER. SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT TRUSTING HER. I really hope she finds a better label... Smh.
This interviewer is like comparing the sound of an album to a CD. There was NO warmth AT ALL to it (he reminds me of Sgt. Joe Friday on Dragnet "just the facts ma'ma"). He was way to "clinical". If want to see a good Fiona interview check out her with Craig Ferguson. You could tell Fiona was having a good time on it.
