Firbeck Colliery Explore Abandoned Ruins 

well done mate, we industrial heritage lovers really appreciate your efforts, looks like it is forever gone now on google maps, but your tour around helped us see some of it's glory, the music when you entered 1 of the main buildings and bright light shining through was equivalent to entering any of the finest buildings, remember the 61 who lost their lives down Firbeck including the youngest, 15 year old Willis Chandler, crushed by the 'cage' on 15 Jan 1926. Not sure if we saw the boiler house but a father and son died in there in the same accident on 25 Nov 1940 along with another colleague ''burnt and scolded'.

These old industrial works are fascinating you can almost hear the people who worked and laughed their. Amazing it's just still standing thanks for taking us along

Hi Ant, excellent video of Firbeck colliery. I started watching your trekking six months ago. I’m now looking back at your earlier recorded treks. I don’t normally make any comments but this video has brought many memories back. My grandfather on my mothers side worked at this colliery during the 1939 / 1945 war, and my grandfathers sisters husband work all his working life at this colliery. I had many visits to Langold during the 50s and early 60s and remember the trains passing under the A60 to the pit as my Aunt and Uncle had a shop in Langold . I also remember the Galas at Langold lake which was an annual summer event.Firbeck colliery was the hub for the resident’s of Langold and Carlton in Lindrick. Many thanks for the memories. I’ve many more of your treks to watch.

The two buildings on the video described as part of the bath house where the locker rooms (one for clean clothes one for mucky pit clothes) the showers where the bit in between the roof having long since collapsed. Great video I used to live pretty much next door to it!

Good stuff, the metal poking out of the ground that you saw I seem to remember working out on my visit a few years back they were part of the foundation for the headstocks.

Ant that was so interesting I am so glad I found your channel. The shit early on in the long building was great. Almost like a vertical structure not a horizontal one. Great! 👍 The two gauges at the shed was probably a transshipment shed from NG to standard. How hard work would that have been!?! It looked like there wasn’t much by way of machines to do the work there! The pit in the rails suggests an ash pit for steam locos. Begs the question did the coal come up from underground in wagons or another means? I’m intrigued and will have to research it a bit! Nice one, glad you got there before another piece of our great mining heritage gets bulldozed into oblivion, pretty amazed it's still there. Knew you couldn't resist finding some railwaytrack!!!!

What about the capped shafts? Why didnt you go in search of them: the most significant and interesting part of any colliery? 😒🙄

the trackbed passes under the main road but no longer has a bridge it then curves left but goes thru private land also if drive thru langold & turn right at the traffic light it crosses that road too & you need to look left cos the only bit left of the bed at this point is a 200yard embankment in the middle of a field & if you look to the side of the road inline with this same embankment you also see where the bridge use to be, there is another bit of the bed that is accessable but often floods just before it connects to the harworth colliery line but the bad new here is none of the old firbeck colliery branch is walkable its all off limits
