Just wanted to say I currently work at an engineer firm that specializes in fire alarm system design. Engineers have no idea how things are going to be installed in the field. I feel like being able to understand that and having a good working relationship with the installing contractors makes everyone's job easier. Also, I have been watching your videos for awhile now and always find them informative and appreciate the knowledge you have for this field.
You are 100% The job goes so much smoother if you work together and realize everyone makes mistakes and instead of holding it as a grudge address it and learn from it if possible
Nice! Now not only will New Years 2025 be louder but will be brighter as well. Also check out the wonderful portrait of The Queen by the annunciator near the end.
Nice video! I do wonder if the school was still for hard of hearing students, if the replacement audibles would have been low frequency, given that the 520Hz is more effective than 3kHz or broadband horns at alerting hard of hearing people
Nice! really interesting old system! is the residential CO gonna get replaced for a notifier one? also why did the PA go off at 20:00? Keep up the great work. cant wait for the other videos
At first when I heard about this replacement, I thought "Why is Nic's school district doing this school instead of Nic's old middle school?" But when you explained that they were building the new addition. Then it became a little more understanding, especially how the QS4 parts are discontinued. And no wonder because these things suck ass, that and they have been out for a while now. I mean, this one was a little better than the one at your middle school. Because the one at your middle school we all know likes to act drunk sometimes lol. But regardless this system is kinda interesting to learn about as well.
The middle school actually has all of its parts there for the most part and they've been there well before they were here for the school they've actually been there longer than the previous two or three replacements that school is just waiting the longest for whatever reason
@@nics-systems-electric Well yeah they just want people to suffer with the old "ShitStart" for a little while longer. When is that addition expected to be completed do you know?
Another great video! I love the bells...just curious why they are being replaced since they clearly work well (and loud)? If it ain't broke... Looking forward to Pt. 2!
The strobes don't synchronize and to put horns in the classroom you would then have mixed signals which is illegal and you need to have devices that are listed as compatible with the sync modules and have available current data sheets
It's being replaced because they're constructing a new building, and with the EST QuickStart4, it has been problematic + unreliable, explaining why a replacement is necessary.
Does the company require you to recycle those old strobes? If not, paint the lens a different color per device and wire them together to make a super disco. You could start a DJ business.
Awesome video keep the good work up. But I do have a question for you. At timestamp 33:27 you show something unexpected. The question is what is beside you on your left side? Is that one of the spiders from the USA movie Eight Legged Freaks? If yes you'd better run away. 😅 We have to have fun here. So you're welcome for the unexpected laugh in this comment.
in the gym, what are the cables for that are zip tied to the conduit? in the u.s, that's a code violation. but it is one of those things we do anyway, even though we know its wrong, myself included.
Speaker wire for speakers that are no longer there I'm not sure if it would be compliant or not would probably depend if the inspector was in a bad mood or not as you aren't supposed to use electrical equipment for a supporting device unless it's rigid conduit supporting electrical components but at the same time we are allowed to strap BX to pipe
@@nics-systems-electric thats true, not heavily enforced here and not a safety hazzard unless there are a crazy amount of cables to weigh down and dislodge the conduit. also, may be fully legal in canada, im not at all familiar with your codes.
Is this the school that you fid the annual in where you made a bunch of loud noises into the radio and the female electrician said "OK ots reset and that was close to my head!"?
That's awesome; can this building be compliant with our U.S. NFPA 72 code regulations in Canada? In addition, in place of the bells, the horn/strobe fire alarm notification devices could be useful there.
I explained that in the video that it needs to be replaced for the expansion as they don't sell parts for it anymore and this particular panel is the next on the list for preventive upgrade as it's much easier to replace a system over spring break when you are prepared and the school isn't occupied versus it failing out of nowhere.
Love hearing that continuous sound!! Do you think it is better that the strobe lights are separate from the bell, or would it be more effective if there was a flasher on the bell?
@@nics-systems-electric I was wondering how to get into contact with you and possibly supply some of our different bells. If you have an interest in how they are made you can always receive a tour. Would love to have you visit!
Do you know if these customers ever complain about needing to upgrade the fire alarm systems? I've run into a lot of people who get upset that they need to repair, replace, or even install fire alarms because they've apparently never heard of them before. It's something that bothers me because they seem to not even care that these devices have the potential to save lives or upwards of millions of dollars in damages
I guess you could say we are the customer as I am working as apprentice with the school district electrical department which is in house and we do the install with the fire alarm company who creates the program and supplies the parts. I don't have experience dealing with Non-government funded projects.
We don't use wheelock but trust me I've heard of them usually replacing their broken products. system sensor has by far the best variety of options especially in a bilingual Canadian version and wheelock seems to suffer from quality issues more so therefore system sensor is what's typically used
I'm really surprised you're setting the candela so high on all of these. Then again, you're in Canada and I'm in the US so different standards. EST Quickstart is a high priority pain in the ass, lol!. replace a device? re-do the mapping. Test the system? re-do the mapping. Don't have the software? Call a licensed dealer. Sheesh. I have a video of the strobes at my old high school going off, all unsyncronized. That system was installed in 1999, and has since been replaced. ( v=oTsmdsLy_uQ )
Yeah usually we don't touch Candela however I asked and I was told to match the old devices. The mapping on Edwards is definitely a huge pain causes more problems than it solves. Luckily this one was conventional so didn't have that issue.
Why are you using that thing on the bottom of the CPU last time at your high school that was making your system un synchronized I’ll probably go with a booster panel. I’m just saying I’m not trying to be rude.
The only thing below the CPU is the power supply the system needs power to operate. The things that cause synchronization problems are the XP6-CA cards with sync-1A modules
I suggest you watch the video and you will hear me mention what you have asked. the 320 as previous comments have said would not be large enough however as I said in the video a 640 would be sufficient
This is pretty cool. Do you know what they do with the old devices, besides throwing them out do you get to keep some? (Oh also, your videos made me realize this is literally my dream job)
First time seeing you of the new things of this replacement 1. Replacing a an EST QuickStart 2. Installing a different Notifier panel which is the NFS2-3030 3. Installing a L-Series ceiling mount fire alarm and L-Series fire alarms of different customizations rather than P2RLs which are white ones and strobe only units
That is not the case here you must be using different symbols than what we use. Not only in that physical location those are the devices that are installed but the legend also indicates what symbols are used for what devices and the way I described them is correct.
@@nics-systems-electric I thought this was in Canada. I'm a CFAA certified fire tech here and those are how the smokes and heats are always shown. As long as that's what the drawings show you're good. Just wanted to point that out 👍
@@shuaybghaffoor3298this is Canada, but I can promise you where I said there is a smoke detector there was indeed a smoke detector in the corridors and where I said there was a heat detector in rooms that is true to out in the field. What was actually there
@@nics-systems-electricive been planning to replace the spectralert classic that is in my apartment unit with the new system sensor p4rl and the srl and idk if I could do it with the electricity on or I have to tell someone to turn it off for me that's my question
@@1bejarrr you don't in your apartment as that is illegal and if something was to happen whether it was your fault or not you could be held liable not something I would do in an apartment when your work could kill someone else and you weren't covered by anything
Fire Alarm system designed for people that are hard of hearing getting replaced by a system with a ton of Spectralert Advances, a horn designed to make people deaf on high volume... LOL I kid I kid... It's better than the system we have in the school I work at, where the kids just laugh at the fire alarm because it's pathetically quiet and unintimidating.
These ones are L-series but similar they are what replaced the advance and because of the amount in the school and having them in the classrooms we could set them all to low volume
