Fire Alarm Test #46

Testing what’s left of a 4002 system at a local college. Unfortunately, the 4002 was replaced a few years back by another company with a much cheaper/less effective DMP panel. The panel itself along with its numerous sub-units & battery housings aren’t even worthy of being shown in this vid. Nevertheless, Simplex regained the contract and most of this system has been saved from further de-construction.

Huh, interesting, a FLUSH-MOUNT 9833 AND CEILING-MOUNT strobes! And an old Simplex 4051 as well. The horn at 1:48 doesn't sound right though, almost as if it is vibrating incorrectly. Still, a rather interesting system overall.

Kindergarten- my elementary school had 2903-9101s with 2901-9840s with their horn cover removed which is unique, all in continuous, scared me half to death and I refused to go to school after our first drill. Course I was forced to go by my parents and was constantly stressed out they were going to go off, I didn't like leaving the class room or going to the bathroom, because the bathroom 2904s in the bathroom scared me as well. About a month later I had enough, a few months back I had been introduced to RU-vid when it was brand new, and I had a good idea to look up videos of fire alarms going off to get used to the sound. It worked, while also getting me interested in them, and I've been an enthusiast ever since then.

@armaniwilliams5752
@armaniwilliams5752 6 лет назад
Not True. Many Buildings And Schools In Illinois(Where I Live.) Still Uses Continuous and March Time in New Buildings. My Residential i Worked At, They're New Campus Has System Sensor P2r Horns on Continuous And Boy, Those are loud. They are set on High Volume to try to Get the occupants out of the building as Fast as Possible as the old building had Simplex 9805's Which were Dying. The Panel is a Notifier NFS-320 Control Panel.
@ZakWolf
@ZakWolf 5 лет назад
@Marc Leslie My college campus was sticking with Continuous for their fire alarm systems for a long time, even when the Liberal Arts and Humanities buildings had their old Simplex 4207 systems completely replaced with a Faraday MPC-7000 system with Space Age VA4 horn/strobes. This was obviously due to grandfather clauses. They only began switching over to the Temporal coding this decade when many of the other buildings had their systems replaced (mostly Faraday panels from the 90s, along with a Fire-Lite MS-4424B and a Simplex 4020, all mostly replaced with Notifier systems and a Fire-Lite MS-9600UDLS), and they also replaced the alarm signals in those buildings (using SpectrAlert Advances and Exceders).

I remember until early 2015, the school I went to for kindergarten had an old Simplex 4208 system tied into a Simplex 4010 panel that had the 4051 horns, installed on 4050-80 light plates. But then the old Simplex system was failing and was replaced with a cheaper Fire-Lite system, and all the Simplex alarms (along with the Wheelock MT-24-LSMs in the modular building) got replaced with SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes...
@CJ9899
@CJ9899 6 лет назад
wileyk209zback Ugh! Rare 4051s and 4050-80 light plates that are EXTREMELY rare and give collectors a great gem for their collection as well as bragging rights, that get replaced with boring and common spectra alerts. They should just go back to vibratones because nobody ignored them when they were going off. Yes I know spectra alerts are loud to, but nothing like the 4051. 😒
@ZakWolf
@ZakWolf 6 лет назад
Yeah; fire alarm technicians don't seem to realize they are practically throwing away money when they replace the old alarms. And yes, the SpectrAlert Advance definitely cannot surpass the loudness of old electromechanical horns.

@Capt_ CJ Yeah, they also replaced the 4051+4050-80s in three buildings at my college with boring SpectrAlert Advances. (The two other buildings that also had old Simplex systems now have Space Age VA4 horn/strobes.) Also, it turns out at my old school, they still have the Simplex 4010 system in use! The 4208 (which was failing and is the reason for the Advances coming in) was gutted and is now used for terminal wiring, and they replaced the original 4208 battery cabinet with a couple of EST booster power panels. This really surprised me; I thought for sure they would've gone with Notifier or Fire-Lite like my college did.

Was the cheap panel replaced with a Simplex 4100U or something like that? and will the Spectralerts be replaced with either refurbished horns or Truealerts?

I have a quick question: I worked at a prison and we had these same fire alarms, however the tone was one single tone, about a 3-second delay then another single tone. That’s how they all sounded. My question is what is the name of that code? Does anyone know??
@safetech
@safetech 3 года назад
Either a locally coded system or old California code if I had to guess.
@tsg931

Probably California Code.
@damaniwilliams8219
@damaniwilliams8219 Год назад
Local Code(Two Stage) or if you are In The State of California, Its California Code. If you didnt live there, Its In Prealarm(1st stage). Afterwards, It will sound in a More Consistent Pattern after a time period. 😂Which puts the System in second stage after the timer runs out. But its California Code More than likely

During my middle school days, I had these alarms doing march time as well as some 40-50s. For some reason I loved the sound of these things.. I just found them nice. Unfortunately till this day, they replaced it with a *Really Shitty* Siemens panel with UMMTS and strobes.
@ZakWolf
@ZakWolf 5 лет назад
Siemens has gotten worse, with using the Wheelock ZNS horn/strobes and remote strobes. I saw some nice old Simplex systems get replaced by such boring Siemens systems. They've gotten almost as bad as EST, if not worse. And they often use RSG's T-bar pulls, so if it wasn't for the smoke detectors and the fact that Wheelock exclusively makes the Z-series for Siemens, they'd be no different from your average low-cost fire alarm company's offerings!

The ADA rules apply to new buildings and systems. These alarms were installed before 1990, and are thus grandfathered in (exempt).
