This virtual demonstration is a brief overview of amphibious single-engine air tanker tactics for rapid initial attack on a wildfire. The airplanes are Air Tractor AT-802F Fire Boss air tankers, operated by Dauntless Air.
Dauntless Air, the leading US operator of the Fire Boss, is proud to assist initial response teams around the nation, working hand-in-hand with state and federal fire agencies to win the war against wildfires.

Five of those AT-802Fs from Dauntless Air in conjunction with a CH-54 Skycrane had a fire 3 miles from my house totally supressed and contained by the ground crew in steep terrain in less than an hour. It was AWESOMELY AWESOME to watch👍👍👍 Yeppers, Those five AT-802Fs made all the difference. 13+ mins between the first and second drops by the initial four ship AT-802F flight and 10 mins between drops two, three and four by them. Then the CH-54 ex Army Skycrane started working it too. 5 min turn around for him. It was an Wonderfully coordinated effort. 💯%👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

I totally agree with this concept, The more water and quick turn around, The better.

I worked for Air Tractor in the 80's, still have friends there, the Fire Boss is about 3 million a copy ready to go, compared to over 20 million for the Canadair 415 super scooper, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that one 415 cannot out work several fire boss's

CL-415 now are running $45M per...1,600 gallons versus 800 gallons....you could buy 7 pairs of Fire Bosses and still have $3M left over!!

@@blesperance Also Im betting that the Fire Boss can operate from smaller body's of water than the CL-415's can.

This is such a dream of mine. I want to fly one, shoot own one.

@@Agislife1960 Actually the size of body of water is similar as the the CL-415 scoops in less time but is going faster so body of water is not that crucial. Me I'm a fan of both but feel the Fire Boss is such a better deal. Fire Boss is also cheaper but has half the flight time. In a day 5 Fire Boss will drop more than twice the water/mix on a fire and cost less than half as much. I saw 5 ConAir in action and it is a sight to see

There are two Fire-Bosses stationed at Deer Park Airport (Washington) 2.5 miles from our home, it is facinating watching these incredible aircraft in action!

Was watching 4 of them in action today over the elk fire. Pretty wild stuff.

Air Tractor 802 makes 20 times more foam in gallons than plain, untreated gallons of water. So 800 gallons of water vs 16.000 gallons of foam. It only takes 1% fo9am concentrate to do this (8 gallons of Class A concentrate). Foam covers more surface area than plain water and it puts out more fire per tank drop. Like 20 times more per tank drop.

I’m glad that you included the fact that we need to budget ecological restoration into wildfire management. It seems that suppression is at odds with ecological restoration as its excessive suppression that is reponsble for getting us into this mess. But of course, we will always need suppression to protect values like homes and people.
