Given this only happened months after the Ariana Grande concert was bombed in Manchester, I'm sure a lot of people assumed it was a terror attack, explaining the panic
Yes I work at the Primark there and was working that day. All the customers ran into our store and our manager opened the back door and everyone including us ran out in the direction Stratford international and we all stopped there. One of my colleagues a young 17 18 years female colleague was so terrified and scared she hugged onto me and I was holding her and she was crying and I told her it's ok nothing will happen and also an older woman who shopped at Primark also held her and gave her comfort. We saw several police cars including armed response units and helicopter already inair because people started panicking and calling police like a terror attack.the police checked the premises no threats and was open safely after sound one and half hour everything was ok.
I was there when its happened... i remmber we run in one of the shop and they put all of us under the tables... shut the shop gates and let uz run through the coridors by fallowing exit...
It was a fire alarm at the beginning so we were walking calmly towards the exit (i work there so i am used to fire alarm announcements) and then all the crowd outside the building came back running towards us saying there's a bomb and gunman so we had to run back in i was actually saying my last prayers waiting for the center to explode or getting shot or something it's hard not to run ,people actually broke some shops doors and were stumbling over each other Terrifying experience
I think it says "Attention please, attention please. This is a fire safety announcement. Please move away from this area immediately. Please follow all instructions given to you by center management staff. Please be aware of descending smoke curtains."
Dont run when theres a fire it can get worser Dont run because of a fire smoke or anything else it may seem Terrfiying but dont run it can be worser and evacuate in the nearest fire exit.
Judging by another video from inside the centre when this happened and their account there was a fire in TK maxx as he came down from the escalator from sports direct and 3rd floor food hall etc as he does this there was a loud bang which sounded like a gunshot and could hear smashed glass and everyone starts screaming and he stops recording. So i assume this is why they ran as where he exited and where they are in this video is only a few shops from tk maxx :)
We had to evacuate manor green college due to a fire alarm the head of the college said it was the primary a teacher from primary slipped and she caught it I panicked but Becca from 3sn said keep calm
It's desined to be calming to avoid panic. All announcements of this kind are recorded in a calm but firm voice so most people will follow the instruction but not panic or run.

jesus it was prob a small fire anyway and that centre is huge it'd take like 3 hours for smoke to fill every bit of it not like a terrorists attack happening jesus.
Even after the smoke curtains are down there are still plenty of egress points within the areas that open to the outside. The smoke curtains are just to stop the smoke spreading through the whole centre, they dont totally seal the area.
It was a real fire in a TK Maxx store but for some reason there were loud pop sounds which people thought were gunshots. People panicked and thought it was a terrorist attack which triggered all that.
