I hope there's a later DLC that has each of the dark emblems to be remixed and harder than these ones. Maybe even with appearances to their original selves with some voice acting. Custom Battle music and all Even if i know that it's very wishful thinking.
Eh It’s not actually them, I think they mention earlier that emblems are not actually the characters…. Otherwise Grima, Ashera, and probably even Anankos would’ve killed Sombron ten times over
I like the fact that, in terms of Engage, Verdant Wind was Byleth’s canon path. That means that Byleth never took the Crimson Flower path, and thus potentially has Sothis’ power still in him. Remember, Sothis herself said that their souls would be as one. Even if Byleth no longer had Sothis’ power as the Progenitor God, his soul should still be merged with Sothis regardless and this still be capable of awakening to that state.
I was surprised they picked Nemesis since that's solidly Verdant Wind, kinda expected them to bitch out and use Kronya due to personal grudge and being the final boss before route split.
@@POKENAR Well, if we’re going with TWSITD, Thales would be the best pick. Although even then, I’m pretty sure he also only appeared in Verdant Wind as well, so you may be into something.
@@MilodicMellodi Thales did appear as Arundel in Blue Lions and was killed there. He also was fought and killed in Silver Snow. He lives on in Crimson Flower, but it's implied that Edelgard takes care of him later down the road thanks to the secret wars. As such, Thales totally could've worked here, but Nemesis was likely chosen due to his beef with Seiros (since he was the first villain shown at the start of 3 Houses).
This Byleth isn't "canon" to any of the paths though, cause he's not actually the same Byleth you see in 3H, just a spirit copy of him. Nemesis being here is most likely cause he was the most prime choice out of the villains in Three Houses, being the strongest and the one who basically kick-started everything, him being here doesn't make VW "canon" (especially since Byleth can give units Aymr (Edelgard's weapon) and Areadhbar (Dimitri's weapon), which wouldn't make sense if he was representing only one route). Also, Byleth and Sothis are their own entities (as shown in her S-support in Houses and stated by Byleth himself in some other occasions) their souls aren't "merged" in the sense that they're the same being, just that Byleth's is empowered by her essence. The only time they actually become merged is in Three Hopes if you kill Jeralt, but otherwise, the power of the Progenitor God only really requires the Crest Stone is there, not necessarily Sothis, and it probably wouldn't be able to be awakened cause, again, this Byleth isn't the actual Byleth (or is even "alive").
I´ll never stop saying this but it's very disappointed what they did to Ephraim. I love Erika and The Sacred Stones is my personal favourite game but come on. Not even in this fight the were able to give Ephraim a unique dialogue. They gave everything to Erika, the engage, the weapons and the dialogues. Maybe I am the only one who bothers this but this make me sad LOL (Sorry, my English sucks)
Everyone: I’ll defeat you once more if I have to! I’ll save everyone and put and end to you once and for all!!” Roy: “???? Tf are you doing here I have no beef with you”
im giving benefit of the doubt such as time constraints or budget constraints, because it really is such a missed opportunity but the fact they put in this idea instead of not makes me think they would've gone the extra lengths if they could
This fight was cool, but I think matching them with a class that’s similar to what they were in their game would’ve made it cooler. However, seeing a mage Liberation King also works 😂

Leif's was Veld (since these correspond with the main final bosses of each game + Nergal [since Fire Dragon was the final boss of FE7 and Nergal was the dude before it]). Otherwise, yeah. Also, Fomortiis is the correct spelling for Sacred Stones' Dark Emblem.
"Allow your great and weary soul the rest it deserves..." Celica also said this to Duma at the end of Echoes its so cool to see small callbacks like this
Everyone else: Ah, my most hated enemy. How dare you show up again. Allow me the honor to put you down for good!” Leif: Hey, wait a minute. Aren’t you that one guy? That guy I fought that one time? What’s his name? That’s weird.

Considering what happened to their parents, she's def mad. It's also heavily hinted at Awakening that their parents were turned into Deadlords at Infinite Regalia, adding insult to injury.
I know people will say that Arvis deserved it more. But considering how Manfroy wanting to give Loptous a vessel was why Sigurd’s wife had her mind wiped, then yeah. Sigurd did get his revenge for what he and Deirdre went through by destroying the very thing that caused all of it.
@@LovelyCinccino I'm sure people will but Arvis in some ways was just as tragic. He was a pawn as well. This was all set in motion by the cult dedicated to Loptous. It's only right that it's him in that slot. It's the same reason Nemesis has the 3H slot; regardless of route, the entire events of the timeline were set into motion by him killing the Nabataeans and sending Seiros loopy.
It wasn't Loptous who killed Sigurd, it was Arvis. Also, Arvis is not in this game as a Dark Emblem, Loptous is. Therefore, Sigurd's "revenge" was pointless. His son, Seliph, delivered the final blow on Loptous, it was not Sigurd who delivered the final blow, despite the fact Seliph himself is not in this game.
@@VexdinLord "Why is it that authority figures are always so unwilling to let go of their power? The world could flip upside down and you'd be trying to boss around gravity."
He's still a descendant of one of the 12 Crusaders tho, so even if they don't know eachother, Sigurd recognizes that it's his duty to kill Loptous and it wouldn't surprise me if Loptous could sense the blood of a Crusader flowing through Sigurd.
That's what I find hilarious about them adding Sigurd instead of Celice. The whole idea is that the Emblem's are legendary people from their home worlds, but Sigurd was just some guy that accidentally screwed up Jugdral and his son was the one that was actually the legendary hero.
@@Jordan3DS I mean Lyn is just some Sacaean descended from Hanon and Roland, who was concieved because his mom was forced to elope with her Nomadic lover. And a granddaughter of a a marquess. Other than that's she's no legendary hero either yet we see her showing up in Warriors, Heroes and now in Engage. It would make more sense to have Eliwood who was known to have canonically slain the fire dragon with the dragon slaying sword Durandal, and stopped the end of the world from dragons.
It makes me wish that with the DLC, Sombron would summon more Dark Emblems to generate his shield with each emblem having dialogue with their rival. It could be Tiki vs Gharnef, Chrom and Robin vs Vladidar, Camilla vs Iago and The House Leaders vs Thales along with maybe Veronica vs Sultr. Not entirely sure who would be Hector's rival and Soren's rival in that case.
Hector is a weird case, but perhaps Linus or Brendan would fit?? He goes on pretty frequently about how terrible the Fang is, and shows remorse for killing Victory or Death Linus…

I swear, this game is just one huge celebration of the franchise and I love it. It really does feel like I'm reliving all the fire emblem games I've played growing up.
Emblems have memories of all the games they appeared in, but then there's Corrin where you have to wonder how they managed to cram three whole timelines of memories
@@lonelywolf5659 Technically, she only put Grima to sleep at the end if the Future Past DLC. Reminder, only Grima's own power can destroy him for good.

@@yorhaalm It doesn't really matter whether Tiki was at her strongest or not. The whole point of Grima as a character is that they've basically surpassed Naga in strength to the point that the best the latter could do is help seal Grima away through the Exalted Falchion. Tiki inheriting her mother's power unfortunately won't really do shit beyond doing the same thing.
@@cipher-one I'm just going off of the idea of "Why does Grima send their soldiers to the Mountain even after being revived", so call me arrogant for saying it's possible that at the "Source" of Naga/Tiki's power it's possible to do that, but in the past it was impossible because Grima is smart enough to avoid the sanctuary.(And a whole other lot of possible reasons that I could say but it would turn into a Ted talk.)
Would have been really cool if either the dark emblems had their own special models or played a remixed version of the relevant boss theme when you enter battle vs them. Or both. Like come on. You can’t tell me Return of the Demon King or Shaman in the Dark wouldn’t slap if they remixed them for this
Its likely just a budget problem, they didn't want to create unique villain models just for the final chapter of the game. Its the same reason why the 10 elites in the final chapter of Three Houses (Verdant Wind) were generic looking enemies.
I'm very happy to see another Radd fan out there, he's my third favorite FE character! Thanks for representing a character that nobody but us cares about xD
Honestly was expecting Zephiel for Roy as even he says he has no quarrel with Idunn but she was the final boss so I guess it’s gotta be this way lol I do appreciate Roy being more confused than angry at her presence tho
Murdock should have been there. He's the one boss who takes Roy seriously and, in this game, Roy says that his battle with him was the most fearsome he ever had. HE is Roy's nemesis to me, not Zephiel and he is one of the toughest bosses of The Binding Blade and the penultimate boss to boot. He should have been there rather than Idunn since Heroes confirmed than she IS an heroine now.
Probably less at Sombron calling himself the Fell Dragon and more that there are other Fell Dragons aside from them, I mean me and another person on AO3 have a theory that Fell Dragons are pretty much just to Divine Dragons what Shadow Dragons are to Earth Dragons, specifically DIVINE Dragon Blood was used when Forneus created Grima (likely Duma's or Naga's although until we get confirmation as to where the hells Sothis came from and her parallels with Grima as well as Robin's parallels with Byleth it's just as possible that Thabes wound up having one other person who survived Duma putting it to the torch, Sothis and considering that she seems to have a connection as a Deity to learning and knowledge, wouldn't surprise me if she proceeded to donate blood for such as purpose... as for her differences in certain things, well mutations happen in nature, it's how evolution and new races happen so it could've been that) as well as how like Medeus has a connection to a Deadly Sin, the darkness in peoples hearts (Envy) both Grima and Sombron have connections to Deadly Sins, Grima fittingly enough as being The Fell Dragon in the same way as Amanozako in Japanese folklore is The Great Tengu (IE not the only one but the mightiest one of the bunch and the most well known, the one that immediately comes to mind usually) being connected to the Deadly Sins of Pride (how they insist on knowing how fate works when it's a bunch of crap in FE that even the Fodlan games have shown with Three Hopes, alongside insisting on how it is The End which may be true, but it is a twisted, corrupted, distorted version since Endings are meant to lead into new Beginnings), Wrath (Full of hate towards Humanity, outright LOATHES Naga whom they call the Wench, constantly tries to enact Genocide upon Humanity at minimum out of said hate) and the non-Traditional Deadly Sin of Despair/Sorrow due to being trapped within the Workshop with nothing but Forneus' twisted creations brought about after he went off the deep end , that man's decaying corpse and having that trauma fester... and before anyone says anything I would like to remind you all of two things: Dimitri's arc in Azure Moon regarding the "Ghosts" with him being mentally unstable and that Forneus was a complete madman by the time the "Dark and Violent Thoughts" happened since it could've been his mentally ill mind hallucinating and Grima was actually harmless and not evil in of themself. As for Sombron... well it's all too clear it'd be either a form of Sloth or Apathy since he quite literally could not less about any world that isn't his own. I can understand his end goal and it's reasonable: find the Emblem of Foundation who happens to be the one person he's been willing to let in, go home and maybe if he was forcibly booted out of his home Outrealm by some asshole pulling something akin to the Agarthan's own forbidden spell of Zaharas or however you spell it and he didn't do anything to warrant it, proceed to if the one responsible is still alive to teach them the meaning of karma. HOWEVER, much like Edelgard and Walhart while I can get behind his end-goal, I CANNOT in any way condone his methods since the Ends justify the Means is how we get them, Sombron, Arvis and so on. Apathy can be as terrifying as Pride, and Hate when you're on the receiving end and Sombron has definitely shown that himself.
These quotes are awesome, I think of all of them Lucina's is my favorite. You can hear it in her voice how personal it is to her, it's almost like she's holding back angry tears. Amazing delivery on those lines. Also the timing for the music to bop was perfect
It’s be a little weird calling Grima the Fell Dragon when there’s another Fell Dragon right there. Newer players might get confused since Sombron is called the Fell Dragon the whole game and Grima only “physically” shows up here.
@@N7_Imperator I figured that’s the reason they did it (it’s be a little confusing otherwise) but surely they could’ve found something a little better than just Despair.
Fun fact: If you press X on the unit and acroll to the Emblem's title; it'll tell you what world they are from. Also it's interesting they chose Nemesis; who you only fight on 1 route; instead of Thales or Rhea [who you fight on 2] or even Edelguard [who you fight on 3]. I can only assume this means Verdent Wind/Golden Deer is the canon route.

I feel like they did that since Nemesis is the most unambiguously evil of all the bosses. Neither Edelgard or Rhea are strictly antagonists. Thales could have worked but I feel like Nemesis is more iconic despite only being in one route
i'm sure this is far from the final fire emblem game, but with the 12 emblems being the past protaganists and the dark emblems being each one's past final boss, it really feels like this'd be an awesome final send-off to the series, a game's worth of a trip down memory lane
What a cool way to send off a series though! Yeah, I hope we're far from the end of the franchise, too, but something like this for the very last game would be super cool and tear-jerking in the best kind of way. Even better if you had to say goodbye to the protagonists through certain criteria pertaining to their respective games.
honestly I do wish they held off on doing something like this till they were ready to put it behind them, like you cant sit there and tell me a game LIKE this but with another 6 or so more protags for emblems, them being better integrated into the story and playing a bigger role, being a few chapters longer and having a better story in general wouldnt be the fire emblem of all time 😂
I feel like in the future, it'll be really cool for people who play the series in order back to back to get to Engage and see all of the fanservice for the games they just beat.
@@lilshokan We could have gotten something like that with Fire Emblem Warriors, but instead they said "fuck you!" and only gave us Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates
I'm gonna be honest, I would've preferred if Raydrick was chosen as Leif's counterpart instead of Veld, but I guess that wouldn't fit the theme of these all being final bosses. ...Well, final bosses and also Nergal, but he's close enough.
Veld was also the dude who told Travant about Leif's parents crossing the desert. As such, if Veld didn't exist, then Travant wouldn't have been coaxed into killing Leif's parents, thus preventing him from being an orphan. Veld's inclusion is kinda personal to Leif to a certain degree. Raydrik does have more of a presence throughout the game though, but Veld was the head honcho of Thracia 776 (even though he answers to Manfroy, who answers to Loptuous).
I get ya. I think there's at least a little more going for Veld writing wise than he sometimes gets credit for, but Raydrick is just, a uniquely hateable villain for FE, and he definitely gets the more colorful lines. For what it is, I like that his title of dark bishop contrasts so nicely with Lief's, and they render his line from Thracia in a way that also sort of mirrors the way they've written Lief here. Tiny details, but I like it!
Marth: "How many times do we need to teach you this lesson, old man?!" Roy: "Idunn, you're not supposed to be here. You're also not supposed to look like that."
Probably one the most interesting non showed feature of the game Protagonists exists because of antagonists and oh boy ; old obscure games need modern representation. Wouldn't it be cool if this was pushed with voicelines and actual models in a potential dlc ? ( heck we even FINALY get Fomortiis in feh ).
I noticed the end of Nemesis’s quote was slightly altered from the original, which was something like, ‘[original quote]… in direct combat’. Here that last bit is ‘without your swarm’.

After playing Heroes, I love seeing these epithets and guessing who is who during the final boss made it really epic for not just Alear and friends, but the Emblems too
I think it might be in the literal sense. I believe it’s a reference to how Ike, who defeated Ashera back in Radiant Dawn, needed Yune’s power to defeat her.
Technically the Emblems are sort of like "Magic based A.I. constructs" then the "actual characters!" They have their powers and memories sure, but they aren't "them per say" Hence why he can bring them into being (helps he got the "coding" for their creations from the Emblem Rings their connected too when he absorbed those ring's power back in the end of Chapter 21)
even though I recognize that the Dark Emblems are generally manifestations of the final boss of each lord's respective game, there's still an aspect of me that would have greatly preferred to see Raydrik represent Leif's ultimate antagonist instead of Veld. goodness knows that Raydrik utterly tormented and persecuted Leif in the narrative of Thracia 776; after all, his duplicity, perfidy, and cupidity for power is the direct cause behind Leif's grandfather perishing in battle and the subsequent suffering and travail that befell Leif
Poor Idunn, even in this world this girl cannot catch a break! Also kinda wanted Corrin to react in some way to Anankos, that’s her dad after all, but I guess even in a new world she never learned the truth.
It seemed like Corrin had meta knowledge about the three Fates routes and that the final bosses in all routes were just Anankos. In game she doesn’t address her parentage the same way Alear addresses theirs.
@@sadeknight9112 Also don't forget through Mikoto and ESPECIALLY Anankos. Corrin has the power of Precognition. Note alot of those you see you DO NOT meet until AFTER Chapter 6) In a meta way! the game letting you SKIP to Chapter 6 choice could be seen as Corrin seeing glimpses of a possible future through that choice! Ultimentally you could say Corrin saw the future of Conquest and Birthright first during those seconds of having to make a choice, before taking the chance she did with Revelations! That's how I can justify her knowing all the paths
@@sadeknight9112 I mean, the final bosses of all the routes in Fates are just Anankos tbh. Birthright: Garon is implied to basically just be a puppet, controlled by Anankos from Valla. I believe it’s stated at some point that the real Garon is probably long gone. And Garon was granted the ability to transform into his dragon form by Anankos. Conquest: Takumi is a Vallite revenant being controlled by Anankos. Revelation: Actually legit fighting Anankos. So yeah he really is at the end of every path, in a roundabout way.
@@fivestarguy100 yes it’s true that the final bosses of Conquest and Birthright are all Anankos but Corrin in Fates doesn’t know that. More importantly, Emblem Corrin would have to know the outcome to all three routes to have that line make sense.

I know a lot of people are saying Sigurd's opponent is loptus but I think it's more Julius when he gets possessed by him and before anyone says "bUt SiGuArD nEvR mEt JuLiUs" that's kind of the point. He doesn't know who he is so to have him see someone be possessed by the god his ancestor worked so hard to kill is kind of a shock to him and in this moment he doesn't care who the man is all he needs to know the he's the vessel for loptus and he needs to put him down as is his duty.
Sombron specifically them "those who brought despair to their world" in which Loptus makes sense as he's the root cause of everything in Jugdral, the dark emblem is specifically called the "dark god" which is Loptus' exact title
There’s little practical difference between Loptus and Julius by the time you fight him. But since all the other ones but Nergal are final bosses, Julius makes more sense here.
I think a lot of people forget that Sigurd's literal ghost is watching Seliph the whole time. :^( He's up to date on what Arvis and Julius are up to from the afterlife. There are ghosts in FE4. Ghosts!!!

I cannot believe people hate this game... but to each their own. I loved this all the way through. The final boss and everything. I actually cried at the end...
God, would it be amazing if this battle was recreated in Fire Emblem Heroes and actually have those "final bosses" appear as reinforcements while battle him?
They could at least share similar classes to their rings? Idk. Having all the emblems be just models of dark ghost things is disappointing. Still great game tho
Yeah like have Anankos be an infantry mage (because of heirs of fates), Fomortis a class that can use magic and body arts (because of his wepons in FE8 maybe even a freez staff) and so on. Medeus would be a bit more difficult tho.
So I guess this confirms that Emblem Byleth is from Verdant Wind, considering that's the only route where he faces Nemesis. Also props for using Fogado on that one, since he's basically this game's Claude lol
He doesn't say anything about seeing Nemesis again. Only that he was revived. Not revived again. Byleth also keeps his green hair in every route besides CF, yet he can still use Sword of the Creator. There likely is not a "True Route."
@@InternetMonster1 Yeah I know this Byleth isn't really intended to be from any one route, but the point is that he shouldn't really have been able to recognize Nemesis unless they've already met, which only happens in Verdant Wind. You do make a good point about the hair and eye color though. Of course at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, since Marth confirms that Emblems aren't even the real, original people they're based on. I guess the best and easiest explanation is that this Byleth is potentially an amalgam of all three routes.
@@juliosalas6455 And frankly all the Dark Emblems are the "Medeus" of their games (The final bosses) then because their the narrative Big Bad (otherwise you'd have Lyon instead of Fomortiss...despite the fact it was the same thing as alot of Lyon villainy WAS Fomortiss)
Honestly, seeing a C-lister like Sombron actally summoning beings like Ashera is kinda funny. In Fire Emblem there are Gods, and then, y'know, GODS. Ashera is on another power level than these wannabe conquerors and purple-coloured dragons. There is a reason why your squad in Radiant Dawn needs another class tier and 20 extra levels compared to all the other games, in order to stand a chance against her
Even in FE Heroes, Ike is referred to as the mightiest of all the heroes, honestly it's really hard for other games in the series to top the power scale in Radiant Dawn when you got 3 insanely powerful guys in the form of Zelgius/Black Knight, Dhaghesus who's literally the most badass looking dragon in the series, and of course the Goddess herself
@@eludeirkz7961 and Ike's predecessor freakin duel wielded Ragnell and Alondite, and was a woman too. I repeat, she duel wielded two claymore sized Gid slaying swords at once.
To bad they had no lines. For example depending on how much of Anankos is in there they might well thank Corrin for killing him once again or apologizing for being forced to fight them at all, or just being to mad to recognize her in the first place.
It feels more like the Dark Emblems were more memories taken from the Emblem Rings and made Emblems themselves more then the actual individuals (Remember Sombron has long absorbed everything about the rings at the end of Chapter 21, so it is possible for him to create beings from those memories of the Emblems at the height of their power they were when those "Emblem's Original selves fought them' to act as "support" for himself! Note he was summoning all his fellow "Medeus" from the other FE! I say Medeus as "the final bosses of each FE")
6:05 this is interesting; I was wondering what path Corrin is supposed to be from, and they obviously keep it pretty vague, but with a bit of alluding to the revelations path since she knows everyone… THIS line casts everything in a unique light: “If it’s true that you’re at the end of every path I take…” *referring to the Mad Dragon, aka Anankos* That implies that somehow, Emblem Corrin is aware not only that they had to make a tricky choice that changed fate, but they even know at least SOME of what would have happened if they chose other paths. Almost like this Corrin has some sort of knowledge passed on from all 3, even though the original Corrin could likely only know of one at a time…
Do the DLC Emblems have anything special to say against any of them (i.e., Tiki vs. Medeus/Dark Dragon, the Three Houses Lords vs. Nemesis/Liberation King, etc.)?
Honestly, i didn't try that but he stopped summoning them after all the dark emblems were defeated. It was already time consuming and trial n error to figure out which emblem can trigger whom. Maybe they have put something like that in for a dlc but who knows, there still should be a next batch of dlc emblems later on.
@@BuffMaister No worries. The DLC got data mined, so they would correspond with the following Dark Emblems if the convos do exist (added a ton of asterisks so you would need to click on "read more" if you don't care about spoilers): * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Tiki - Dark Dragon / Medeus Three Houses Lords - Liberation King / Nemesis Hector - Dark Druid / Nergal Soren - Mad King / Ashnard (though maybe he also has something for Ashera, who was Micaiah's DE) Chrom - Despair / Grima Camilla - Mad Dragon / Anankos Veronica - I don't know as she's from Heroes.
@Jarock316 He wasn't able to attempt them this time. The DLC probably lacks these conversations (since I don't know who the final data-mined Emblem would correspond to), but they still have the potential to do so for the others.
Not surprised bylwth fights nemesis but imagine if they threw a curve ball and had us fight arval and shez Lyn fighting nergal I saw coming but kinda wish it was lungdred
The only difference is, Grima is the main villain of a game with an offensively bad plot while Sombrom is the main villain of a game with a very standard but inoffensive plot.
@@kevinhenrique4256 The Awakening Kids return to their world after the events of Fates. And Lilith swore to never tell the truth to Corrin. So Corrin will likely never know the truth about Anankos.
It makes me even sad that Corrin shows more of her personality at Anankos here as well. Look I don't hate or dislike Fire Emblem Fates/If, I like how the game is enjoyable I played all 3 path's but, protagonist just never hit it for me as much as they should've. but here this Corrin again showing that what she is missing.
I wish each dark emblem also had a special interaction with the dlc emblems of their respective games, though Veronica would be an odd one, it would have been awesome if she had an interaction eith all of them
