This is the best adaptation of an NES soundtrack I have ever heard. So many remakes just slap on updated synth sounds, but the composers here put so much care into arranging every single piece in a way that makes it sound like it was actually meant to be played by an orchestra. Even the more drastic changes they made had a lot of thought put into how they would improve on the intended tone in the context of what is going on in the story.

I wonder why they didn't put this game, and possibly even the first game, on the Super Famicom. The first game was released a few months before the Super Famicom was released in Japan and the Megadrive was out in Japan since 1988. The latest licensed game on the NES was Wario Woods in 1994 (or however that title is spelled gramatically). I have no idea why developers in Japan in the late 80s and throughout the 90s would be so reluctant to move to better hardware when they could create a more complete presentation.

Honestly considering what they had to work with back on the NES I think they did an absolutely astounding job on the soundtrack and SoV just makes them even better. This game deserves more respect imo.
I get blown away every time hearing how much Celica Map 2 improved. It was not that great to start with and they made Sacrifice and the Saint into one of the best tracks in the game

I think this has the best soundtrack of any game. Also the story is probably the most dynamic of all of the games. There's such a emotional state attached to both Alm and Celica and I really love both their characters.
I wasn’t really a fan of Alm and Celica’s relationship. They knew each other for a bit as kids, meet up as adults and hate each other, then meet up again and wanna get married. They could’ve went a bit more in depth about why they were so special to each other and why their argument is significant enough to divide them but not enough to destroy their friendship. Still a fun game though.

Everyone here commenting on how amazing SoV soundtrack is, and while I 100% agree, you gotta remember the VAST improvement Gaiden made over Dark Dragon. Both of Celica's map themes, both 1 and 2 pushed the limits of the sound quality that was avaliable on NES systems at that time in the late 1980's early 1990's.
Alm kinda look like he was in Gaiden(at least for me) but Celica look so much different now, it's like it's not even the same girl anymore. And yeah Valbar haha, well glad they redesigned all the characters in Echoes.
Deen and Sonya look better in Gaiden. Check Fire Emblem wiki for reference. Especially Deen. Why did they change his amazing 80's High Flat Top hairstyle? He looked like Dolph Lundgren! Now he looks like a basic mercenary character... boring....
@@KeyleeTamirian Multiple characters in gaiden have the same portraits as others. Same with Deen and Blake, another boss character. Blake in Echoes is the one that kept the design of the portrait they shared in gaiden. Given what the characters are like and their roles in the game, I’d say Deen’s new look made more sense.
6:07 Perhaps The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess took inspiration from this track? It sort of sounds like Midna's Lament. Edit: Okay, not sort of...it sounds A LOT like that theme. Go and listen to Midna's Lament if you don't believe me.
This is definitely my favorite Fire Emblem soundtrack. However, I think I eventually got tired of hearing the same songs on the battlefields as often as I did.
A year late but whatever Both What lies at the end and The Sacrifice and the Saint are almost complete recompositions of Alm/Celica Map 2 while Duma’s/ Mila’s Ordeal are almost 1 to 1 remixes of Alm/Celica map 2
That last track still gives me goosebumps, the orchestrated tunes are amazing, damn near perfect, but just the masterful playing of the guitar... *Shudders* It is so good!
The Fell God's Tempest position is understandable, it's actually the only theme that is a direct adaption of Duma's Boss Theme. The Mad God's Blessings is inspired by a very similar theme to that of Duma's boss battle and that theme is, funny enough, the same theme that Duma's Scourge (Duma Temple's exploration) is inspired of, the Enemy Phase theme of the Final Map; which is also used for exploring Duma Temple instead of the usual Dungeon Exploration themes (Story 2: Underground and Story 4: Tower) The Mad God's Blessing is the more direct successor of Final Map EP's rhythm as well as it's eerie and unnerving; Duma's Scourge instead is a more somber, slower (but also with added sauce with the chorus) version of Final Map EP, to make it fit better as an exploration theme. I imagine the reason why this video choose to represent Duma's Scourge instead of The Mad God's Blessing is because is the first of the two versions of the Final Map EP that we get to hear. I personally could have chosen The Mad God's Blessings because is easier to compare with the original. But the point is that The Fell God's Tempest position can't be replaced.
Im fine with most of the Echoes soundtrack with a few being worlds better than Gaiden's, BUT goddamn the enemy phase battle music was so good in Gaiden. I think they messed that one up making it too airy and unclear. That 13/8 figure did super well and actually GROOVED in an intense way when it and the drum accompaniment was 2/3 of the track's texture. In the remake the main impression are those thick horn chords which are pretty annoying to hear over and over again compared to the stripped down fusion-y stacked fourths of the original
