Unironically one of the most sad and shocking moments in any game I've played. Emulated on RetroArch with the Project Naga patch, and recorded with Nvidia.
If you feel heartbroken watching this, just remember Finn didn’t get to say goodbye to ANYONE he knew, even his wife if he married. We watch this, Finn LIVED this.
except Lachesis who was on the run with him, Leif, and Nanna before she disappeared in the Yied desert. also what if there was an event where he married Brigid and meets Eyvel lmao
No other fe game had the balls to do this. I hope Geneology gets a remake as this in a HD cutscene would be magnificent and would definitely make me cry. The relationship between Sigurd and Diedre is so tragic I love it
@@fuckingking6796 There is rumors of a Fire Emblem remake along with a new title. Since 1 and Gaiden got remakes in the forms of Shadow Dragon and Echoes, Genealogy is a logical assumption.
Idea: If there's ever an Geneology remake, the premonition dream is Sigurd returning to Bellhalla safe and sound, with cheers from the crowd and all is well and good. Then, after the player reaches this part, an cutscene similar to the premonition starts to play, except that it continues into Arvis declaring the death sentence, Sigurd's army being bombarded and him being burned to the ground by his once friend, with the Tryfing falling on the ground.
I can see this in my head, but I would like it so much more if Sigurd goes down swinging. Considering the battle scenes in the menu when you wait long enough, Sigurd was able to attack Arvis and Arvis needed to be healed afterwards. Imagine everything that you said but Sigurd is able to sprint up to Arvis and attack him until an bombardment of flames collapse onto Sigurd and Sigurd's last words are akin to "Damn you Arvis. Damn you!" Before his voice is drowned out and all we're left of Sigurd is the whispers of fire and smoke from his implied corpse and one last shot of the damaged, burnt Tryfing dropped to the ground, while the only thing left for us to hear are screams and the sounds of meteors colliding upon the ground.
Just got to this point of the story today and oh god... Even when I knew Arvis was gonna kill everybody, the way he did it was downright atrocious, I felt like my stomach became empty as I watched this...
If anyone ever asks whether a video game has ever had a "Red Wedding" scene, I would point back to this clip. You just don't get this kind of gut-punching storywriting these days. The only other scene I could think of that came close was the final ending in Final Fantasy Tactics, with that last scene between Ovelia and Delita.
Sorta I had agrias till the end and then seems like me and my sister made it out at least sucks about my homie getting burned as a heretic later on just for telling the truth but can't win every battle
I can think of one: SteamWorld Dig 2. At the end of the game, you inadvertently cause the world to be destroyed. You have no choice but to evacuate the planet. And the worst part is that not all of the citizens made it... There is no good ending to that game. I think it's just as soul crushing as GotW.
Oh, what about when General Shepherd shot Roach(YOU) and Ghost for absolutely no reason, literally burning them to ash after, and branded the surviving members of TASK FORCE 141 as "Most Wanted"? After doing the dirty work for him, this is what they get for all of that? As a player who witnessed that event, the betrayal still stings even today. I know for sure that some players who also saw that echoed this sentiment as well. "This is for the record. History is written by the victor. History is filled with liars. If he lives and we die, his truth becomes written - and ours is lost. Shepherd will be a hero, 'cause all you need to change the world is one good lie and a river of blood. He's about to complete the greatest trick a liar ever played on history. His truth will be the truth. But only if he lives, and we die." - Cpt. Price
@@eduardobustamante4749 erina didn't had a tragic death (kill by his son) but I see your point, you can even say this scene is had some point too with berserk
Imagine throwing at us in the remake an unbeatable chapter, we are forced to try to survive but everyone just keep dying with death messages for every one.
@@Animedian99 if it's playable, people will find a way to beat it, unless they forcibly disarm everyone or something, but at that point it's not really a playable chapter anymore is it
The tone of the whole chapter is super dark and foreboding, probably my all time favorite chapter in any fire emblem First the music, then Sigurd telling oifey to escape with seliph, then quan… and all the conversations in the army, just brutal

I remember when I was little I played this game, the language limitation was torturous, I barely understood English and played the rom in Japanese, I'm from Brazil, but I still wanted to play!, I could only guess what the story was like visually, I I thought alvis was evil! but I really didn't expect this ending, I was really thrilled and happy that I was getting a celebration after all the suffering to get to this part, but then the music gets heavy, the green allies turn red, it's fireballs fall from the sky !... this left me really static, i cried, i thought it was the end of the game, then we have to start all over again with celice under command!, i really wanted to avenge my first team!
You aren't. I first witnessed this scene (unspoiled, I might add) during study hall my sophmore year of high school. Thank the gods it was at the end of the day, cos it left me shell-shocked haha
*drops controller* So Sigurd just dies?!? GG? Arvis snatches my girl?! My army literally implodes!?!? THE END?!? What THE FU~ Oh! Ok. My boy's son lives. Arvis you dead pal.
@@borjaarellano9966 I agree but seeing how the recent Smash trailer recreated the scene where Kazuya threw his own father off a cliff, except he threw Smash characters, I wouldn't put pass Nintendo to do this for the 0.0001% chance Arvis gets in
@Cyrus79 That’s just a complicated fan rule I’ve heard years ago, prior to the release of Smash 4. Whether they’re qualified to appear in Smash as a fighter has nothing to do with in-game class. It has to do with who is unique and who can capture the essence of the Fire Emblem franchise in Smash. Several of the Lords are similar to another. Genealogy of the Holy War does not play like the rest of the Fire Emblem series. Sigurd, Seliph, or Leif would fight similarly to Marth, Roy, or Chrom, hence they’re redundant. They can’t come up with a unique play style. The sword Tyrfing is too similar to Marth’s Exalted Falchion. Arvis is a villain and magic user and there’s a remix of a song that directly pertains to the most important event in Genealogy of the Holy War. However, the question is whether he can come up with a unique play style, which is what Masahiro Sakurai is looking for. He probably doesn’t have enough moveset potential. His son Julius appears in Smash Ultimate as a Spirit. There’s already evidence of support for Arvis being in Smash.
@@davidhill8565 You also have to realize that there is a loooong list of wanted characters for SSBU. Arvis being a villain is already at a disadvantage, that and being region locked essentially to Japan.
This game is a tactical rpg turn-based game if you only knew this you woulnd't think this game has its most atractive point in the story, even more if you know it was developed in the snes in 1996 such a great game needs to be more accesible to people around the world
I know if there's a remake, that: A: This would be a reason why it would be rated M/16/C (US/Europe/Japan) B: Imagine hearing Grant George and Xander Mobus voicing Sigurd and Arvis in this scene
I kinda wished this scene had lead to an unwinnable battle. At any time there'd be an option to end the battle early and just continue the story but for any hardcore player who wanted to test themselves could try and see how long they could hold out for. Infinite Reinforcements...A nigh unlikable boss...all tht carries you is your trust in your allies until inevitably...you run out of drive and fall to the endless troops
A remake can do that easily Also they can add what was mentioned on the manga, arts or hidden cutscenes in there to spice things up. Like what Lwyen tried to do at his last breath, Arin falling to his knees protecting Sigurd or who pulled Azelle out - that was heavily implied in FE5 -.
Emblem Marth: Lumera, I never thought our paths would diverge so soon. Emblem Sigurd: Nor I - and to leave a child behind. I did that in death; a bitter memory. Fire Emblem Engage
With a remade version of this, the scene has the potential to bring about as much dread and despair that the Berserk Band of the Hawks death scene had. Everyone being cut down one by one, incinerated, impaled, its just.... I don't think they'd ever give this scene the justice it deserves. It should brew a hatred towards Arvis so intense that your only goal as the player continuing on from this point, is to see him dead. That's how you make a fantastic and memorable villain. Through setup, shock and awe, and eventually a reason behind it all. The original had all this, and a remake of this scene could improve upon it by miles in the right hands.
With Sigurd making a prominent return to mainline FE in Engage, I wonder if the Jugdral games are up for an HD remake in the future. It might be on the last years of the Switch, or maybe on the next Nintendo console.
Ghast has an interesting video on the topic, but TLDR Engage is internally not the game after Three Houses; the project names all have a number for the main series (including remakes), and has only skipped numbers twice. It skipped Fire Emblem for Wii U, which was confirmed to exist before being cancelled. And it skipped the number between 3H and Engage. Given the heavy similarities, plus some very credible leaks from someone who also leaked a lot of stuff about Engage, that skipped entry is most likely a Genealogy remake that they didn't have ready to announce. It likely started development either before or alongside Engage given the numbering, but it would be a lot more in-depth if they give it the same quality of life and especially presentation updates as Echoes.
I think this might have been an homage to the Golden Age arc of Berserk in which the King of Midland lured the unarmed Band of the Hawk to a field to execute them.
Akame: only one character who has a plot armor to live while the side characters are all dead even our mc, Tatsumi, died too. Sigurd and his armies: "pathetic!"
when IM 8 yo, i played this game on sness with Chinese language ? and i managed to get many karakter by doing random thing? like try talk with possible enemy even i managed to completed gen 1, when this scene happen , i fell so sad.. i wannay cry, i somehow understand what happen .. ITS not hard understand this beautiful tragic story' without English patch
All things considered the odds that Gen 1 ending being received bad was very high yet somehow it worked beautifully and is one of the best moments in fire emblem history and probably one best video game plot twists out there. Leave it to nintendo to do such risky move and end up working greatly.
This is the end of book 1. Book 2 is the campaign of their children (or replacements if your units died/didn't marry). There are no other endings for book 1.
@@FriedChikun Less replacements more hero's Sigurds son and Quans son recruit, they actually have more like backstory and character I think due to more events for them to boost them.
Nope. Gen 1 only has this gutpunch of an ending. Sigurd is unique amongst FE protagonists in that he dies as part of his story (and stays down for good).
You know, I thought about this but until now I remembered it: Holy fuck Deirdre and Arvis were married! Had Kids!! AND WHERE HALF BROTHERS!!! How tf their kids didn't got any genetic anomalies!!!!
Imagine if Engage ended at Chapter 21 with Alear dead for real, and their companions massacred by Dark Veyle and her hordes of Corrupted after Sombron used the Emblem Rings and raised Gradlon!
I understand what you mean in the sense that some people may feel angry their units 'die', but I feel like a modern audience could adapt to the story adequately.
Im still asking to myself how Geneology isn't an overrated game, like this is GoT level of writing; i also hope they take parts of the manga into the (lets hope it's real) remake
@@liahknight56 Well in FE4 the dating sim actually makes sense because of the two generation thing. whereas in modern FE (except Awakening), the dating sim is just shoehorn in there to pander to fans.
Came here since I didn't played this game but I heard about this infamous act. Just curious to see. This...... If it was some grunts and soldiers that died here, it would be ehhhh, alright. But princes and princesses also included in the body count? That would've left a lot of major power vacuum in its wake. At best, he should've rounded up the royals just to have a leverage against any other kingdoms or countries. Who even thought that THIS was a good idea? If Price was here, he would've hunted the bastard to the ends of the earth. If Kerrigan was here, she would've burned the entire continent to the ground.
Alvis' plan is to take over the entire continent to put an end to war, so why would he let very influential and powerful people that are against him live? Your premise makes no sense. If you ever play the game you'll understand the motivations of the characters and the overall plot.
