The only reason I ever played this game was on Mekkah's recommendation. Totally worth the time, despite its weirdness.

Seeing Xavier in the no investment row hurts my soul

I like the stat cap of 20 for unit balance's sake. It means that even terrible units are never THAT far behind the good ones, and Thracia has enough ways to help them keep up that you can use almost whoever you want. Basically a terrible unit in Thracia or FE1 can find a lot more use than a terrible unit in something like Awakening because they can only be so far behind everyone else. Also, when stats are low, your other unique options or utility (like unique weapons, flying or staff use) make you stand out a lot more compared to everyone else.

Some things Mekkah didn't mention: - Nanna supports Leif, Finn, Diarmuid, and Homer. - Dean's Dragon Lance isn't just a brave weapon, it also has Vantage built-in, and in Thracia, Vantage is always active regardless of HP. - Ronan somehow got a prf in Heroes and I'm convinced it's because of Mekkah.

Ok now I might actually try Thracia. Thank you very much for holding my hand Mekkah. It's the only FE I never played, and this will be my guide. I know this will be an hour worth my time of FE content.

What I love about Karin is that she's super useful even if you don't train her for combat, but if you do, you get a flying goddess of death.

Pursuit Critical can technically go up to 9, as seen on Arion's unused data. With Gungnir's 70 crit and Arion's 20 skill, he would have 810 crit when he doubles. Rutger is a baby with that crit rate

Everytime I see Karin as only being an utility unit I rage a little lol. I always train her and scroll her up for chapter 11x with the paragon sword.

Good guide! On availability, I've been watching some Conquest videos made by Zoran, and he made a very compelling case for availability in Fates. Availability determines how fast you can build supports, which in turn determines access to potential uses for Friendship/Partner Seals, and thus more skills to outfit your characters. When your access to Heart Seals is limited, alternative reclass options can be interesting. Not to mention all the support bonuses you get in combat, because you're not limited in the number of support partners. The same idea applies to Awakening and Three Houses, albeit to a lesser extent, since your reclass options are not expanded by your support partners. But for games that tend to play around with your team composition a lot (like Thracia 776 and Radiant Dawn) or games with limited support partners, availability doesn't play into viability as much as opportunity usefulness.

I beat Thracia 776 for the first time the other day. In my heart, Marty will always be a top tier unit.

I know many people hate the game because of its bullshit shenanigans but i always have a blast playing Thracia. The unique mechanics and playable characters are just so much fun to mess around with from time to time.

This guide and the beginners guide are what convinced me to play thracia. I'm on 17a, and its been tough, very tough. But a lot of fun. I gave the leg ring to Dean. I wonder where it went for others? I will say, 11 move Dean is great.

Just wanted to point out that Callion has 4 PCC, not 5. I would still recommend him though! He's kinda the Ross of Thracia and my favorite unit.

For Xavier's recruitment, [SPOILERS] I found that one possible way to tackle it is to just use sleep staves. I think you only have 1 or 2 at that point in the game, and there are better things to use safy's restore staff on. However, if you really want the guy and you can handle the light handicap of sleep conserving (or 3/4 restore uses) then just sleep all of the good knights. Sleep sword is too random for me, and I never found the 2 main methods to be reliable without luck or perfect Thracia knowledge. The 8 or 9 sleep uses is far more wasteful in terms of staff utility, and It may not be viable with what kind of utility you sacrifice before chapter 18. But being reliable, accurate, and making the hardest recruitment in all of FE less of a pain can be worth the trouble. In a way, it also means you can practice resource management with leas hammerne uses!

I just realized that everyone takes Asvel for granted, but he joins in a gaiden chapter, which means many players would miss a character that is more or less needed to beat the game.

I've been using Karin as one of my main fliers and she's been great for me. Yes I did give her the leg ring and a life ring to make her better but it's working out for me.

When using a Sleep Sword when trying to recruit Xavier, I prefer using Alfred because he has A-Rank swords and has low enough stats where he will very rarely kill the knights using a Sleep Sword. He also has 1 PCC so if he doubles, he won't murk the knights.

My recent playthrough of Thracia really soured me on Brighton. Macha legit pulled more work than him in Manster since he'd keep missing things.

Most of the units in this games can be good if you feed them enough scrolls.

I would love to try this game. I started the FE series with 3 houses from my daughter's switch lol, and I loved it. Strategy rpgs have always been my favorite type of rpgs, maybe even my fave genre overall, and I've played them since shining force back in 95 at 10 yrs old. But I'm definitely on the FE fan train now. Picked up a 3DS and all the games available there and loving them all. So I have a question for you, Mekkah, and for everybody else that reads this: how can I play Thracia in America? I only have a 3DS and switch right now, but I'll get a Wii U or whatever to get the older games. If anyone can answer, I'd appreciate it. I can't see a way to play it at all... I don't care if it's in Japanese

The wrath and vantage combo does work with the Beo sword, but Diarmuid joins at a point in time where most enemies have 1-2 range. The only enemies that it might be effective against enemy phase are the ch 24x and endgame berserkers. However, when using that sword against them, I think the game treats the enemy (Diarmund) as attacking first, which causes said berserkers to proc wrath. Overall a strong sword on player phase, but probably only that.

It’s insane how much the Vouge and a good PCC make Prsin so much better than Halvin. Sucks for me as I pretty much always go for the reserved one in the Fighter Cain & Abel type duos but I make do. But then another one fo my favourites is Brighton and where’d my brave axe go? Eda was the biggest unit scam I ever fell for. Wyvern with okay bases but a sorta low base lvl? FEMALE ZEISS LET’s G- oh. Now we’re always indoors and have E Swords. She got like 4 mov lvl ups tho.

Ironically I always use Shannam in FE5 with some scroll abuse, one of my favorite things about fe5 is how any unit can become good, even a scrub like Shannam can get somewhere even with some training. For some reason I really like using meme units like Shannam, Oliver, Marty and Marchen from Tearring Saga

Shannam is almost as bad as FE12 Bantu. 0 pursuit critical, 5% growths in skill and defense and his bases are comperable to book 1 Julian, which is hilarious for a swordmaster. Even if you train him, he will likely end up worse than Eyvel by the time she rejoins. Miranda at the very least has a potential to become good, while Shannam is a lost cause. Route B kinda got shafted.
