As a career firefighter from TN, all I will say is each department has their own way of doing things. I personally do all straps on my SCBA but that does not make me right or wrong. When it comes to how the FDNY handles their job I would let them do it as they see fit, they truly are the best in the world in this field.

as engineer I would sometimes open an unused 2 1/2 outlet at pump panel and clear out spectators around rig. to bad you just got wet, LOL you can't fix stupid !!!
New York City is full of people. Just like the traffic, there are people. The daily life has to move forward, this is something that is just the way it goes in NYC. You can't make a busy street go somewhere else, just because there is fire.
Nice vid. Good show of the first stages of arrival and fire fire attack. Lot of hustle and bustle upon arrival. What folks don't understand is that for the fireman,it's about 15 minutes of GO, GO, GO,HURRY,HURRY,HURRY and then usually,with a good knockdown, it's over. WHAT A RUSH!!!!!!!!
I respect all firefighters and what they do i have more respect for volunteer fire fighters because they choose to be a firefighter and because they don't ever ask do be paid for it. Thanks to all firefighters out there.

Cab drivers foolishly sitting in the way, a woman almost hit by a fire hose, great looking fire rigs and a tremendous job done by FDNY. What more could you want?
That's an excellent idea! I'll write a letter to the DSNY Commissioner, John Doherty. I'm going to suggest flying the Dutch Flag on city garbage trucks as tribute to flangerak.
I live in Boston, I love these guys (FDNY). Their like an army attacking. They never stop coming. And for the NYPD not wearing hats, well their the NYPD. They don't need no sticking hats :)
Glad to see the FDNY work like this..they have hustle..alot of other videos I've seen on various other big city FDs they get off the truck like its no big deal..which I know is good they have a level head but put some pep in the step!
You will always have looky-lou's, every place, every where has them. Most people are in a slight state of shock that it is happening around them, and some people need a swift kick in the ass and told to move out of the way. Great video!
this is what we in America call PRIDE , yea we are proud to be Americans and love our country, what a shame you don't feel the same way about yours.... FDNY has flown the flags on there trucks for generations, this is nothing new

The Pack FDNY wears is Scott Air Pak. The most important strap on the pak is your left shoulder strap because its where the regulator is located. When donning pak first strap to be buckled is waist strap. next shoulder straps are pulled umtil pak rests against your back. All weight of pak should be on lower back. nothing should impede the movements of your shoulders. One comment was made that he may tighten up on waist strap to take pressure off shoulders at a long call. if you have to do that your not wearing pak correctly.
There are some old timers left who just won't use it. Way most of us see it, it should be on your face if you are entering a burning structure (unless it's a VERY LIGHT smoke condition). Minor car fires, trash can fire etc there's no need to waste air. This fire, the guys inside absolutely should be on air. I hope I didn't need to tell you the guys outside don't need air just because a building is burning in the area; there are those who think SCBA should be used just to drive around on the rig.
@volcom1722 Two trucks is NOT enough. NYC has thousands of wood frame buildings interconnected at the roof level. One little fire can, end up burning the enitre block down. I know because I am a FDNY firefighter. I'm certain if you are trapped in a building on fire in NYC you will be extremely pleased with the service provided by our guys.
It's done just to annoy you, and so far it seems to be working out quite well. So tell us what else you don't like, and we'll see what we else can do, okay?
Technically they're no supposed to have it, but many units around the city have Federal Qs along with the EQ2b. They just remove them before inspection/maintenance/repairs.
just an observation I made after I saw all the SCBA comments. My guess would be that since it's the city, certain areas are more confined. Attack space, the alleyways between some buildings. Having that strap unbuckled makes it faster to take it off if you need the room. idk, just a guess, but there's got to be a reason they do it.
I thought only here in Europe people would walk in our way but to my surprise even in the US people walk in the way. Looks like FDNY is doing a great job. Not strange to me they wear SCBA but yet not using it. That's just smart. Love the American flags on the trucks. Very respectful. @719backdraft in my department... as we pull up.. we un-buckle. it saves time. wear the seatbelt there and as you pull upas your coming to a stop unbuckle... rig goes into park... jump out and getthe job dome. and all rigs have seatbelts. even the ones from the 90's. thats NFPA regulation.
so theres a flag on the truck, that means they have pride in there country, maybe Europe should have a flag on there truck to show there pride. pretty much all fire trucks have flags, my fire department has 2 little ones on the front and 2 big ones hanging of the back, now thats pride
It's pretty rude like I live in Texas and over here people don't get in the way if you do you get knocked down or pushed out of the way because you have a job to do. I'm surprised the firefighters over there don't get mad, and if they do then the know how to keep their calm.
Its not just NYer's. I've had a woman yell at me to move our engine while I was attending to a patient of a car crash. Also I've heard of people in cali stealing fire trucks off scenes.
