Fire In The Glen 

This song refers to the Highland Clearances, the forced eviction of many Scottish tenants off their land between 1750-1860. The result of this was the destruction of the traditional clan society. It is written from the point of view of a Scottish tenant farmer who emigrated to America, hence the reference to “Republic.”
