In this game of Fire in the Sky by ‪@MarksGameRoom‬, I pit the plucky lads of the RAF against the dastardly Luftwaffe in the skies over Kent in 1940. Will the Bombers get through? You can buy Fire in the Sky here:

Looks interesting, would be interesting seeing how it translates to SE Asia '41-42?

The author has said in an interview on his RU-vid channel that he's used the game to play the defence of Malaya and Singapore. That would be very interesting!

Good report on a fun game system - I'm also eagerly waiting for the Battle of Britain set. While I wasn't upset to see the "orphanage bombers" suffer at the hands of the heroic Spits, didn't you forget to give the Bf109's a chance to intercept?

Intercepting fighter attacks with your own fighters is a big part of the game, I am 15 minutes in and this seems to have been completely missed. A fighter squadron moves one box at a time, and at every stage the opponent should be asked whether he wants to intercept with his own fighters. Maybe not after the first move, but when the active player moves into a second box the opponent is asked again, and so on. The closer you are to him, the better chance he has to intercept, even if the attacker gets in among the bombers. If the intercept is successful that combat is fought, scatter is calculated and then the attacker can use any remaining points to move again or attack etc.

This is just my impression, and I'm not trying to be negative, but do the player(s) actually make any real decisions? It seems rather based entirely on luck - and the only points where you made a "decision" there wasn't really a choice. There was only a single obvious option in those cases, so it really wasn't a decision. Did you feel differently? Or does it just appear that way because of the small numbers of planes? Again, not trying to be negative, but that's just my takeaway from watching.

I get what you are saying and I think this was due to there only being a small number of planes as its an intro scenario. The decisions come from what to do with your action points though and manoeuvring to get into a good position to attack later. One thing I forgot to do was that the opponent always gets a choice to react when you're moving, which will obviously give you something to think about. I think it works best as a multilayer game, like at a club or as a participation game at a show, with loads of squadrons on the table.

The decisions are when and how to use your fighters to attack the bombers and more significantly when and how to intercept those attacks with the bombers' escorts. The reaction choices are the most important.
