Fire Lord Ozai Killed Iroh's Son Lu Ten ☠ Avatar The Last Airbender

Iroh was originally next in line to become Fire Lord, so then how did Ozai end up with the title? It all started with the death of Iroh's son Lu Ten. Ozai then tries to convince his father, Fire Lord Azulon to make him Fire Lord instead of Iroh. I believe this was Ozai's plan all along. Lu Ten wasn't just a casualty of war, he was murdered by his Ozai in a vicious grab for power. I believe Fire Lord Azulon saw through this scheme and that was the true reason he commanded Ozai to kill Zuko. Through of series of events, Fire Lord Azulon ends up dead and Ozai becomes Fire Lord.
The touching scene of Iroh singing Leaves from the vine as tribute to his son Lu Ten will always get you in your feelings.

Great video StudioNovaTv but personally I don't think that Lu Ten was assassinated. He fought in the siege of Ba Sing Se (wich lasted for a year) and he died during the final assault. Regarding how fierce the earthbenders defended the city, I think there was not need for an assassination to kill him. I always imagined that he had led the charge in the front line than he got hit by an arrow or a stone, dying like a war hero.Interesting theory nevertheless.

@@StudioNovaTV come to think of it, Iroh though older, could have remarried and still had a kid. Of course, now Ozai’s kids would be the eldest potential heirs, but Iroh’s claim would have still been solid. Plus, I always thought Azulon was a lawful evil, while Ozai was more chaotic. Even though The invasion of Ba Sing Se failed and he lost his only heir, if there was no law already existing or a long established precedent specifically disqualifying Iroh from the Throne, then Ozai’s request for his brother’s position would have been even more outrageous and insulting, if Ozai had indeed had or set up Lu Ten to be killed and Azulon either knew or had strong suspicions of his involvement.🧐

@@leina-3597 Azulon never showed any particularly evil inclinations, he was simply extremely authoritarian and honor-driven as everyone in his position had been for generations. "Protecting her son" is no excuse for magnicide+patricide when she's a member of the royal family. Feelings before country is a privilege that belongs only to commoners. She was well aware what kind of person Ozai was, same for Iroh, and she chose the only path in which Iroh would not be firelord. If it was about her son, she could have escaped with him. It's highly likely Azulon would have let it be at that point, since Ozai would have lost his firstborn regardless.

Ozai is a ruthless man and the only way to get him listen to you is to get him the throne. Ursa had no choice but to act accordingly. About the “Azulon never showed any evil inclinations”. He ordered Ozai to kill his son just bcs Ozai did not show respect to Iroh’s lost. Azulon’s “request” is just as bad, if not even worse than what Ozai did. That clearly shows his lack of empathy for his own grandson. I agree he was extremely authorian but that is also no excuse for him to take away an innocent’s life. And do you know why he was such a way? because most ppl in the Fire Nation, especially the royal family had been wrongly influenced by Sozin’s greed for power. For generations. Their lack of empathy and love led to the disharmony of the four nations. Though what Ursa did wasn’t technically right either, but at least her actions led to Zuko having his rightful throne as the Fire Lord.

It makes sense because if ozai had killed iroh, lu ten would immediately become firelord and thus ozai would not be able to touch lu ten at all from then on, plus being the firelord and son of the dragon of the west iroh, lu ten would definitely have a lot of girls spreading those cheeks for him, meaning he would get a child too which would then become the future to the firelord throne. It makes sense for ozai to go for lu ten than iroh as killing iroh son after iroh slready lost a wife and considering how much older iroh already was than ozai, makes sense iroh would not get another wife or another kid, plus he would be depressed and lose the will to fight for the throne, what would be the point, keep in mind this was after a 600 days siege of ba sing se, thats rough, so it makes way more sense for ozai that he had lu ten killed, it wouldnt surprise me that ozai had iroh wife killed as well. Ozai rule as firelord was arguably the most successful wothing the 100 year war period, atleast since sozin, because its under his rule water tribe got beat, ba sing se got captured, avatar was discovered and killed only made it because of spirit water, it would not surprise me if a lot of the things ozai did he already planned before he became firelord, if not for the avatar ozai dogwalks as firelord, so him assasinating is nephew is not surprising to me.

I believe ursa discovers the punishment and saves zuko by assassinating azulon and ozai orders the coronation and no one of higher rank could oppose him and iroh never tried to challenge because the trauma of losing his son made him not value the throne or violence anymore. Again, if he was willing to go that far from the get-go, then why start with Lu Ten over Azulon or Iroh? According to Azula (granted, she was a child, so she could have been wrong), if Iroh died then Ozai would have been next in line anyway. And again, we know Lu Ten didn't die under suspicious circumstances. I also just hate the idea, honestly. The clear reason why he died from a writing standpoint was that he was killed by Iroh's warmongering, and that was why he changed into a better person. Lol every theory can make sense if you look at the possibilities. It could be said that Lu Ten didn't die immediately at the wall, and was trapped in the spirit world where Koh stole his face. Lu Ten was probably a high ranking member of the army, and probably was already a high value target that they would have focused on. We also don't know how many people died and how strong he was as a firebender, we assume a very skilled one, but he might have been more of a leader than a fighter, leaving him vulnerable to attack. Lu Ten's death made him lose his will to fight, regardless of how Lu Ten died, Iroh would still blame himself for not being able to protect his son. Nah, this is just unnecessary drama. ATLA doesn’t need to be Game of Thrones. The tragedy of a father loosing his only son because he either pushed him to join the military or the son wanted to follow in his General Father’s footsteps is tragic enough. Lu Ten died because of a war Iroh helped further, and that realization changed him as a man. More importantly Iroh didn’t blame the Earth Kingdom, and rather than seek revenge sought self reflection. Ozai being behind the death ruins all of that for unnecessary drama.
@StudioNovaTV
@StudioNovaTV Месяц назад
🤣🤣 ATLA is full of drama, idk what you've been watching. To your point though, we don't know much about Iroh's journey after Lu Ten's death, what we know for sure is how much he blamed himself for not being able to protect him. Ozai having Lu Ten assassinated doesn't change this for Iroh, if anything, it gives a better understanding of how far Ozai was willing to go for power. In the same way it's not public knowledge that Ozai went to Azulon asking to be named his successor instead of Iroh, I don't expect the assassination to be public knowledge either
@georgev3433
@georgev3433 Месяц назад
@@StudioNovaTV “Unnecessary drama” is what I was arguing against, not drama in general. Yes, admittedly how much Lu Ten’s death affected Iroh is up for debate, but we do know it ended his military career and left him feeling guilty (“happy birthday my son, if only I could’ve helped you…”). As is it’s a perfectly understandable scenario that while vague, is still pretty clear on the important points. His son died, it caused a change in Iroh, he became the man we know today. Ozai being behind it doesn’t add anything of importance. We know the man is power hungry. First chance he got he went to his father, showd off his prodigal daughter, and demanded his brother’s birthright. He sees an opportunity and he goes for it. We know he’s a monster who hurt/kill family because he openly admits he’d have killed Zuko on Azulon’s orders, plots to kill his dad, physically maims his son, and tries to kill his son multiple times. We know he’ll take advantage of a situation like how he taunts Zuko during the eclipse, and more importantly in how we see Azula act. Like sure, would Ozai be willing to plot Lu Ten’s death? Obviously, but it adds nothing new to the character. Like it’s not some stupid unfounded theory, it 100% makes sense. That’s not why I dislike it. It’s just adding drama for drama’s sake. It’s unnecessary

Wild theory, but pretty unconvincing and lessens Iroh's story immensely. I don't see how Ozai would be able to arrange Lu Ten's death in Ba Sing Se all the way back from capital city. At least not without being caught easily. Any middlemen would rat him out to Azulon or Iroh for favour from the Firelord and his heir, who can offer far more than a second son. It is pretty telling that Ozai had to rely on Ursa to off Azulon and shows that he didn't have access to assassins of his own. Besides the poignant part of Iroh's backstory is that he himself led his son to his death in battle. His own culpability in the greatest tragedy of his life pushes him to the changes that make him the Iroh we know and love. There is absolutely no narrative reason to involve Ozai in Lu Ten's death.
@StudioNovaTV
@StudioNovaTV Месяц назад
I wouldn't agree. It doesn't lessen Iroh's journey, he still felt guilt and blamed himself for not being able to protect his son, which led to his redemption arc. The assumption that Ozai wouldn't have the means to hire an assassin is also wrong, we literally see zuko do the same thing later on by hiring spark sparky boom man to go after Aang. Also, it's likely that Ozai coerced Ursa into helping him poison Azulon in order to save Zuko's life. I don't think Ursa is the one who came up with that plan.
@juliantheapostate2263
@juliantheapostate2263 Месяц назад
@@StudioNovaTV It is canon according to the comics that Ozai coerced Ursa. But relying on his wife that despises him for the highest stake assassination there is showcases how limited his option must have been. Because that is a desperate move. Just because Zuko could send someone after Fire Nation enemy nr. 1 doesn't mean Ozai had the same means. Besides L am fairly confident that Sparky Sparky Boom man wouldn't have accepted a hit contract on Azula or Ozai. But you haven't adressed why any middlemen wouldn't sell Ozai out for thd reward of their lifetime. And it absolutely adds nothing to the story other that Ozai is a kinslaying dick, which we are already well aware off. It lessens Iroh guilt in the eyes of the audience. But what I really don't get is why you present your theory as fact in the short? If you lead with "I think" or " it is my theory" I would have had absolutely no issue. But so it seems quite misinformative.

I also think Ozai blackmailed his wife into killing Azulon by saying that if she didn't then he would be forced to kill Zuko because he was ordered to. Then he framed her for treason and banished her

Yep, this is literally what I wrote in my script for my next video. I dont think Ursa came up with this plan on her own

Unlike this video's ridiculous theory, what you're saying is pretty much canon and confirmed already. It's from the comics.

@@TempusVulpi lol what's funny is that all theories would be trash in your eyes unless confirmed. Most people in the Fire Nation believe Azulon died peacefully in his sleep after naming his second son his successor... you can believe what you want. lol come back when you're ready to hear the truth

@@StudioNovaTV What a ridiculous assumption? I love theories, yours is just full of flaws, and the IMMEDIATE hostility you display upon being challenge tells me you probably know that too. "Come back when you're ready to hear the truth" lmao. If anything YOU seem like the type to consider all theories trash, except your own.

@@TempusVulpi 🤣🤣🤣 now I'm hostile for defending my ridiculous theory. It's ok, some people are ok believing what they're told. Yes, Lu Ten died in war, Azulon died in his sleep. No need to question it

Yeah, this Actually makes sense and to be honest, it wouldn't be beneath them. He's a full on psychopath that has 0 emotional abilities whatsoever It's why his daughter ended up having an a full on emotional mental breakdown towards the end and why his son just had no problem disregarding him.

Lol I actually think Azula's mental problems are a combination of her needing to be perfect for her father but realizing it wouldn't get the approval of her mother. Later when she's betrayed by Ty Lee and Mai, her abandonment issues become very clear

How would he even go about that? By going to the earth kingdom himself? Sending assasins?

I'm going to do another video on it, but he has a few methods he could use. Ozai most likely had access to battle strategies and movements, it would be the simplest thing to leak this info to the Dai Li, paying them to ensure Lu Ten dies. That would set his plan of usurping Iroh in action.

Well we know Ozai had the motive and the temperament to do it, and he certainly had the means. I'd say that's enough to suspect him
