Firefighters are sent where they are needed. When a vacancy becomes available on a watch, they send whoever is most suitable (taking into account travel time to work, where they live etc).

That is very profound but at some LFB stations you get an all female crew together on regular shifts. Amublance service had been more diverse ever since. More women, different background different ethnicity.
