A bonus episode for you! As part of the production for our AK-47 episode that launched yesterday we spent a little time talking through just a few variants and examples of the historic and iconic AK platform. Make sure to watch yesterday's episode of Loadout all about the AK-47 where we explore more of the weapon's legacy and life in pop culture and video games. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l42zG5H7QPw.html

Even another caveat, there are still milled AKs being made today, with the primary manufacture of modern, original (as in not part kits assembled in the US), good quality milled AKs being from Bulgaria by Arsenal

I've worked with gold foil, it can be rubbed on, like one might rub silver foil on something. I believe electrolysis also works, but you should absolutely not take my word for it. There's different ways to do it, I worked with artists that made bronze statues. Some liked gold foil on some of their creations. It can come off, at least what I saw. Gold is very soft and not useful for this kind of application at all. Very impractical. Anyone wearing a gold ring will know that an unlucky bump into basically anything "hard" can turn your ring into an oval. You could even make marks on it with your nails, depending on how many karats it is. TL:DR gold is good for shiny things and electronics, bad for almost everything else.

AK47 is much like M16, its a catch all term for weapons of a shared lineage and mechanics, all pretty much the same to the user despite their vast differences to us nerds. Heck, even what became the M4 was first called the M16 Carbine by Colt themselves.
@QualityPen
@QualityPen Год назад
M16 carbine makes sense. The M4 really is just a short-barreled M16. But, modern people, especially technically minded ones (myself included) are OBSESSED with categorization and classification. Same sort of deal with the AK-74M’s short barrel version being called the AK-105. We do the same thing to historical weapons now. Sidesword, arming sword, longsword, Viking sword, scimitar, saber, gladius, kopis, falcata- these were all just called “sword” (and that’s it) by the people who actually used them back in the day. Maybe “curved sword” or “two-handed sword” would have been used.
@jonathanferguson1211
@jonathanferguson1211 Год назад
As I say in one of these videos, it depends on your purpose. If you're a layperson, 'AK-47' is fine. If you study small arms and light weapons or even if you're a journalist, it's incorrect.

If I am not sure I generally say an "Ar15 pattern" or "Ak variant" irl its easier to tell them apart but in games and media its not always easy. Even IMFDB guys get some wrong. There are a few "M16 carbines" and rifles like 933 which aren't m4's but aren't M16's. You also have like the air force versions and "goverment carbines". Its just safer lol. AK's pattern can be easier but without looking at it closely, could you tell a type 1 from an AKM in a game?

There would be no retail model ("SP1" R6000) until 1963. In fact, early M16 (Colt 604) units feature _AR-15_ in the roll marks. So the M4A1 is an AR-15 the same way the SLR-104FR is an AK
