After Remington was sued over advertising to kids there won’t be real guns in any mainstream games. No company wants to go bankrupt like they did. Daniel defense is currently fighting a battle for their guns being used in a shooting. It’s insane to blame gun manufacturers for insane people and their crimes.
They always punish everyone except those who are actually responsible. Whether that be gun manufacturers via lawsuits or the innocent general public via regulation
@@theankotze1292 they never punish people that do shootings! I could shoot up a place and they'd let me go! Stay tuned for more moronic pro gun takes, here youtube comments.
15:00 myth busters covered underwater shooting as well. Full powered rifle bullets tended to do worse in water as the higher amount of energy created more friction & caused the bullet to pretty much dissolve a few inches into the water. Pistol caliber tended to do ‘better’ due to lower power, meaning lower resistance/friction in the water but still didn’t get very far at all.
I believe its more about the velocity and the change in density from air to water than the energy specifically. Well, also the structure/strength of the bullet, cross sectional area, coefficient of drag, and so on. I think though, it boils down to, when entering the water, the faster the bullet, the more force is exerted on it, and at some point, the force is more than the bullet can handle and it will cause the bullet to break up. Also, rifle bullets are much longer than they are wide, so when they tumble, their surface area goes up substantially, where pistol bullets are usually more or less similar in diameter/length.
@@genitalgrinder5704 It's more like a gunpowder-operated semi-auto harpoon gun if you look into the design. It's super cool, but it's not really anything like a traditional firearm. It really shows why guns don't operate underwater and why divers use harpoon guns instead. Because realistically that's all that actually works. And the underwater gun would be really awful at being a gun above water.
@@jonathanferguson1211 A shame. I would much prefer it if more of your recorded commentary was left in, and I think most of your fanbase would as well. Rather peculiar that GameSpot has such stringent time restrictions in their format, seeing as how the medium is RU-vid.
Nice to see Jonathan a lot less disappointed in this one haha! If anyone wants to see a bit more of trying to fire pistols underwater as well, the Slow Mo Guys did a video with some great footage a while back. Edited to add, Destin from Smarter Every Day has a companion to that video with rifles which is also well worth the watch!
The host of a science program here in Norway fired a 5.56 towards himself via a clamped rifled and a string whilst in a swimming pool to prove that point! He did say that is was very scary to do even if he knew it was safe...
14:54 One really cool detail is how the spent casings actually slow down as well. You can see it clearly at the timestamp, how they don't just follow a canned animation, and are affected by the water
the moment the casing is out of the ejecting gate it immediately became environmental object and is no longer the screen overlay object, that's why it could afloat in the water. but ngl 2022's animations are good, infinity ward surely know how to make games.
He needs to see the multiplayer inspect animations for the guns the deagle inspect he’d definitely have a word or two about it, some of the weapons during the inspect your character will fumble putting the magazine back in for some of the guns
The deagle inspect animation is completely doable, Schrodinger, a gun RU-vidr literally did the exact same thing with a real one too. Tho why you would do it during combat is another question.
Rapid on this, absolutely love this guys work. I always feel like he’s a disappointed Mother when you’d get a detention when he’s visible annoyed but trying not to show it.
I think it’s worth noting that to accommodate the platform system they probably had to alter the design here and there to make it more visually obvious they’re part of the same platform, which I think is an acceptable compromise for an interesting and potentially good mechanic.
Mp7 is my favorite gun on the planet honestly and, yeah, I would say the slant on the front of the gun is probably one of the most important style notes to port over to a video game "knock off"
@@mikef1848 yeah, I found it strange that Jonathan didn't acknowledge the reason these guns "look so different" than their real world counterparts is to avoid any litigation over IP. I can imagine there's many casual gamers who don't recognize that these things require licensing from the manufacturer, if they will even allow that, but a professional in the field should know this fact.
I got images of dust2 loading with that at the bottom in my head when he said that lol. Also, don't forget, sometimes your enemy is just having a really good day.
It's sure faster in VR, at any rate. Playing Into the Radius, it was always much easier to pull my pistol and fire than to finish fumbling the old mag into a pouch, grab a fresh one, load it, remember to cycle the action or not cycle the action depending on whether I still had a round in the chamber, then fire. Far easier to just draw and bang.
6:29 That P90 looks like it's sporting the Imperial Arms XF50 (EFFEN 90) upper receiver component. It could easily be an actual P90, just with aftermarket parts.
I've noticed the new MW artistic style leans towards heavily-stylized versions of upgraded accessories, often with more machining cuts and complexity. (One example is a hand guard attachment for the Steyr AUG that looks like an Mlok version of the AUG A3 CQC, but with receiver cuts like the EF88 Austeyr).
It seems theyve gone with the GTAV "not quite the thing but close enough to not be copyright" mentality for this game, making the general shapes recognizable but all the detailing mashups of so many individual references that you cant pin it to one manufacturer
@@callsignapollo_ They also have been working on establishing in-universe weapons companies like Tempus Armaments, so as long as the weapons plausibly resemble the correct platform on their operation and handling, I'm satisfied.
I've said this before, but it'd be nice to see Jonathan react to the guns of Cruelty Squad, since a lot of the guns in that game also exist in real life and are rare prototypes that haven't appeared in other games. There's also a couple of cursed gun bio-augmentations in taht game (like the ammo gland and skull gun) that'd be funny to see him react to too.
@@TheSundayShooter which is what made it awesome, for that kind of genre of gaming if there is even a prominent number to name such a genre, 1886 really sets the standard...
@@proudfirebrand3946 I thought the writing in that story was really terrible. The characters were flat and made nonsense decisions. Bad pacing, too. All simply in my humble opinion though. I did love the concept though, especially having the game presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio like a feature film. Also a clever way to free up more head room for the GPU to squeeze a few extra cycles out of it by having less pixels. Just the script was jank.
When I was able to travel to the museum in Leeds it was a fantastic time. I was a bit jet-lagged but it was so beautiful. The tower of armor is truly something to see. I wish I would of been able to meet Jonathan and pick his brain a bit but hey maybe next time.
Kinda wish Jonathan looked at the FSS Hurricane that's part of the M4 platform as that seems to be an interesting deviation from it AFAIK, and would like to hear more if there's real world counterparts to it.
Considering the carbine in-game is select-fire, it has more in common with the M4 than the AR15. The DDM4V7 is about as far as you can get from an M4 on the Armalite Rifle (AR) platform.
Correction:I have to say that the modern AK in the video was NOT AK203 but a crown AK103.The piccatiny rail was added on the dust cover directly. That was totally wrong.AK 203 is like saiga 9.The dust cover with rail should be locked or it will shake terribly.
Jonathan should definitely react to Black Ops 2 weapons considering it is set in the future but not to far, would like to learn if it is somewhat realistic
I think the reason they made the guns different from the originals is due to mw 2019 looking so close to the original that they didn't want us to feel like the guns were copy pasted to a new game.. I appreciate their consideration, but I'd prefer the more accurate representation honestly..
The guns being mostly redesigned variants of existing ones was deliberate. Both for legal and marketing reasons, they changed the lore and established their own in-universe weapons manufacturers so they could give a spin to the weapons while still using the main design characteristics.
I think the main problem with the fictional manufacturers is this: They lack any real...presence in-universe. What I mean by that is they are really only referenced in text and have their logos shown on their products, but they lack a physical presence in the game world. It'd be like if Blume in Watch Dogs 1 was purely only a presence through CTOS, or if Nudle in Watch Dogs 2 only made a presence through Nudle Maps/their cars; They'd lack any actual presence in the universe they reside in. (Doubly so for Nudle since they were deliberately meant to be a parallel universe version of Google right down to the exact same headquarters building.) I'm not saying that the fictional manufacturers in Modern Warfare 22 need to have physical headquarters that we can visit; What I AM saying is they need more of a physical presence you can actually see and hear in-game: Commercial billboards, hiring advertisements, corporate memos, maybe an address for one of their regional factories on a computer, stuff like that. Give them more of a tangible presence, or maybe create some intriguing story ala Hannibal Weapons Systems from HALO so they feel like tangible entities that you can genuinely see as being a thing in-universe rather than just a simple way to avoid licensing. Imagine seeing an ad for Tactique Verte where the company spokesman talks about the manufacturer's founding before World War I playing it up like it was some kind of grand adventure for the company's founders, and then later tries to hide how their main factory in Belgium was taken by German soldiers during World War II in order to seemingly avoid embarrassment; Wouldn't something like THAT add so much more presence and character to the company in-universe? Imagine something similar for Lachmann Meer, but THEIR ad doesn't hide how their founders used to be employees for Mauser and Rheinmetall during World War II even though they are clearly ashamed of such a fact; I'm sure you can already feel the impact from such a concept. It helps that both of these ideas not only tie into real world history, companies, and locations, but sort of parallels the backstories of real world H&K as well as FN Herstal, especially with the latter when comparing FN Herstal to Tactique Verte.
@@dragonbornexpress5650 I disagree. How often do you see television ads for gun manufacturers ? How often do you see billboards by gun manufacturers ? Especially in other countries ? The most I can see is maybe have someone reading a guns/ammo magazine but even then it's not like you would have time to read it when on a mission while being shot at. They are establishing their own brands, show don't tell, and you see a lot of that in the gunsmith.
I like what they tried to do in this game with the platforms, and that you can unlock attachments and challenges for other guns in the same platform without having to use them all. However with all the fake weapon names in this game, it's driving me nuts when I unlock something mid match and I don't even know what weapon it's for because it's some fake name. Usually there's always a few fake names in cod, but I can get used to that. Like the stakeout, or the Oden. It's not just "Lachman sub", it's actually names that are easy to remember and fit the gun, and they stood out more because 90% of the weapons were named, like the AK 47 or the mp5. It was just much easier to keep track of. In mw2 it's the other way around, there's a handful of guns with real names like the m4, then all kinds of fake names that sound like dev name tags tbh and not good weapon names, makes it too confusing.
I agree with J' that the Hold the rifle to the side and use the pistol one handed is a really neat feature that you kinda go "Why didn't someone think of that years ago" in something like the Battlefield or Arma games it would have fit right in.
I would like to see him cover Valkyria Chronicles, with its guns that are clearly inspired by WW2 guns without ever quite being them. For example, the semi-auto "Lenfield" rifle.
The one problem I had with the rifle-to-pistol transition is exactly as Mr. Ferguson pointed out. When hitting the reload button the game slings the rifle and reloads the pistol. In my opinion, when reloading the game should holster the pistol and reload the rifle, automatically switching the player back to the rifle. That way this pistol swap option not only offers a unique playstyle that is different from the traditional method, but also uses the technique as intended.
I love your videos! I want to say though that one visual improvement might be to include more light from behind the cemera towards the presenter because many of the guns you show are matt black, and it's quite hard to see the features clearly on screen as it's a bit dark.
Names and minor changes are due to licensing and not paying for weapon likeness I'm pretty sure. For MW2019 Kriss even said it would be no problem to license Vector. But the problem is money, and I don't think they want to directly support gun manufacturers either.
You should show the multiplayer as well, since you can use the weapon inspect button and see the cool details, down to the number rounds left in each specific magazine. Also the "p-90" has access to its more standard look via a rail attachment
Hopefully you guys cover more of the unknown weapons of the game (or, at least, not easily recognized) with an Expert Reacts video to the multiplayer portion of the game (maybe even Warzone 2.0). 🤞 Let's go Jonathan!!!
MWII has plenty of..."hybrid weapons" like the P90, is a mix between the P90 with the magazine fed and the Magpul PDR receiver, the FSS Hurricane an AR receiver and the P90 magazine fed
Oh, the AR57 is a real gun. They're not at all very common but it was released as a civilian alternative to the PS90 if you wanted something in 5.7 but in a more conventional platform. There's a pretty famous picture from a few years ago of a guy in Venezuela using one during the riots that happened but beyond that I don't know of any other instances of them being used in combat.
Yeah the ar 57 is absolutely real I’ve handled and fired one, it’s just a different upper popped onto a regular ar lower, looks dumb and weird but very fun to shoot
@@googleit1131 it's not even that, from what I've seen, KRISS had offered them to add the Vector free of charge and even sent an accurate 3D model to use and IW just went "nah fam we good", so at this point I don't even know why they don't use real gun names.
100 series AK all have the side rail for optics, and in particular the one shown at the beginning here reminds a lot of the Zenitco modernization kit, tho the dust cover doesn't have the "arms" that fixes the dust cover to the handguard.
Seems and sounds like Jonathan had a good time or was feeling pretty good while filming this? Hope it means he is doing well, thanks for the vids Jonathan!
The P90-ish gun seems to have the same lower receiver as the old Magpul PDR concept. Edit: I think some company used to make a kit for pistols to be able to fire underwater, I think it was H&K? The bullets still won't go very far but at least the gun will cycle.
H&K did indeed make a pistol designed for underwater firing. The Soviets also made one as well as a rifle. Can't remember the names and I'm too lazy to look them up lol.
@@Very_Nice_and_Polite_Person You're thinking of the SPP-1 methinks. They fire what are essentially mini harpoon type rounds that go through the water better.
As far as I’m aware, the mobile version of Warface actually had the emergency pistol switch in their game. If your current magazine ran dry and either you’re still targeting an enemy or had your finger on the firing button still, the player would automatically pull out their side arm to continue firing on what ever it is they’re trying to defend against. Warface Mobile, if it wasn’t clear already, did come out before this MWII
One thing that MWII does that I don't think I've seen before is that if you start reloading and switch weapons before putting in the new magazine, and then switch back, the weapon won't have a magazine instead of how older games just had the empty mag teleport back into weapon. And this also extends to locked back bolts where if you swapped mags then switch before releasing it, it will still be locked when you reequip the weapon. There's probably some other games that have done this but if there are I haven't played them.
The fact that most of these weapons are off proportionally to some degree, makes me think it's an 'Activision thing' going "hey make them close enough that your average gamer will recognize them, but different enough that we can call them something else and not have to pay for licensing, it'll save us so much money". That Vector is so jank
Gun companies don't want their stuff represented by games too much anymore. CoD is going the GTA approach now, making slight differences and name changes so that the weapons are still recognizable, but are allowed to be in the game.
@@walterwhite4398 I said guns didn't want that to happen. I related it to GTA just naming it different stuff, not that they didn't want the cars represented.
@@senorquack5182 you say that but when the Fennec was added to the game, Kriss (the company that makes the Vector) went to social media saying that they would've been fine with the Vector being in-game for free but Activision never even approached them
Please do another video on MW2. Show the weapon trees in multiplayer. Would be nice to know if the weapon “families” are actually correct. Like the M4 platform, AK platform, Aug platform etc.
No it's a sequel to 2019 Modern Warfare which is a reboot of the Modern Warfare trilogy. It has the characters but also new characters and story compared to the OG MW2.
The handguard on the AK-103 at 12:29 is a ZenitCo B-31S gen.2 & B-30 gen.2 put together, very interesting furniture for the AK and some of the most reliable stuff
FYI, Jonathan, the 3rd gen of the Daniel Defense SOCOM M4 (the one currently being issued) does have the mlok handgaurd with just the pic rail on the top, vice the 2nd Gen with pic rails all around.
What they need to do is have Jonathan go over the entire gunsmith. Because the rails and stuff on these guns can be changed out. You can build different versions of that gun. The parts really do make the gun look and function different. Like the Desert Eagle. All the barrels make the gun like different. What would it cost for him to do an entire Gunsmith breakdown video?
As much as i agree with Jonathan about gold and chrome plated firearms, but the Royal Armouries at the Tower of London does have a sig covered in swarovski crystals i do not know what is worse
Fun fact: IW has changed the weapon looks down to an exact percentage required to not purchase licensing for the weapon. I believe the quoted amount is 87% and there's details on which parts of specific weapons make up certain percentages. That's why no gun looks exactly like their IRL counterpart. This was also the case in MW2019
Honestly, I'd like to see his reaction to some the insanity the in game company JAK comes up with, especially recently with the Limb Ripper, Purifier, and the literal loudener as opposed to a suppressor
CoD was actually NOT the first game series to implement holding your main weapon in your off hand while firing your pistol. The first game I'm aware of that did that was Read Dead Redemption 2
17:25 Max Payne 3 did allow you to have a rifle and a sidearm at once, shooting the sidearm one handed. However, it's far more manual buttons operation than how automatic it is in COD. In Max Payne 3, you have to access the weapon wheel whilst having a two handed weapon and selecting a one handed weapon. (You could not holster two handed weapons in the game). That makes the character hold a two handed weapon in his left hand and shoot the one handed weapon in his right hand.
Give Jonathan a break and let him take a look at some Stalker modded weapons like for example the Gamma package for Stalker Anomaly. Sure some might be a bit janky, but I´d love to see his reaction to some of the more kitted weapons
I love this series. Have you done a video on Metro Exodus and their wacky weapon systems? The upgrade/customization systems are worth discussing, and there's a lot of instances of "well that wouldn't work but whatever, its a video game" and some unique cobble jobs.
Aww, I am sad he missed a really easy one. The default LMG you get (I don't recall the name atm) will, when you reach the last few rounds, show the proper amount of bullets on the belt, but there is still all the links shown, making a ghost belt of disintegrating links, but with no bullets.
