The sad thing was that the guy was INCREDIBLY polite about everything.

Is it just me who laughed when he said that she got fired. I’m sorry, but anyone who reacts like that to a dude being polite and wanting a discussion doesn’t deserve to work for a company like that.

"You're working really hard {...} for people that hate you." This is not at all special. Many jobs are unappreciated by the very people that profit from them. Do you know how much hate teachers get from pupils and parents for doing exactly the job they are supposed to do?

She deserves to be fired for attacking a fan giving her honest and polite feedback.

The moment she identified herself as a Dev of GW2 she was immediately writing in official capacity, regardless of being "on the clock" or not. It's the same in any business.

It is always baffles me that people so delusional about a subject. Even firing them won't help to change their minds or even try to think situation differently that's what called narrow minded person.

Every company I have ever worked for has had a section in the employment contract about your behavior on social media, private or public. It usually falls under the general “good character clause”

I play a tabletop RPG called Pathfinder. Jessica Price was a writer for that game before she was asked to resign for essentially the same behavior toward the game's players who she interacted with on the game's forums. She was so bad and hostile that, if I were browsing a thread that had a post from her, I would just skip over what she had written, regardless of context. After she was fired, she publicly berated the publisher of the game, Paizo, on twitter. So this is a pattern of behavior for her.

I remember watching this video, so why am I being recommended this video two and a half years later?

The guy was too polite. I’d get much more aggressive if this happened to me.

Oh jeeze, even her Twitter feed says "I block often"... yea I'm actually willing to bet a large sum at this point, that ArenaNet has been trying to get rid of this employee for a while and simply took advantage of this opportunity. Really comes across as someone who cannot handle other opinions or feedback, which is not a good quality in any employee, especially when working for a company so involved with community.

Ironically, her being treated equally by the management and community, is what resulted in her punishment. It would have actually been more sexist if she wasn't fired, because that would be giving her special treatment, due to her being female. GET WOKE, GO BROKE

What to say, I find her behavior utterly inappropriate, and as a woman I am really tired of this kind of trend that's happening now. Men should be able to criticize women, and vice versa, and he was so polite, even too careful perhaps, I feel kind of bad for him.

She actually said after getting fired that all the current season work is her work and that "we'd be seeing it for a long time" . I didn't realize one person was the development team. Unbelievable, she is narcissistic this would explain why she got so enraged. Narcissistic people can't take any criticism. I am so glad she got fired she is obviously unstable.

I am so glad these keep popping up in my recommended, Just subscribed. Well informed and structured argument that brings up important topics places it into the spotlight. The gaming industry is making leaps and bounds and it's important that bad practices are addressed so that they don't bleed into or are picked up by other companies in the gaming industry.

As a developer this lady brings shame to me and my passion. We have enough toxic people out there but this guy offered NOTHING but good feedback vs what most do with "this sucks fix your shit"

It seriously annoys me how many people use the "but women" excuse in EVERYTHING. This was clearly not a gendered issue, this was a being-a-bitch issue. Her trying to defend herself as "but hes sexist" just makes all other women look bad. Her continuing to push on that button constantly even after she was fired with "I regret not speaking up like a fragile little woman so I'm trying to change that" and "everyone used to tell me what to do because I'm a woman" infuriates me. Nobody treats women worse than men. In fact I've found people far more willing to listen and far more patient when I'm wrong than my male counterparts. But beyond that, when it clearly isn't a gendered issue I don't understand why so many other women join in and act like it was - it just makes women as a whole look worse and society pushes back against what they (rightly) perceive as a closed group trying to abuse their power by repeatedly shutting down criticism in an unwarranted and frankly cheap way. Had he gone at it with "sit down, bitch, stop cuntsplaining me and listen" then I might have agreed with her point but this guy was insanely polite to the point of fault and she just jumped down his throat then continued to verbally assault him with "but women" after he had given up and stopped talking when she could have taken it on board, politely disagreed, or even said that she doesn't have the time or doesn't find his advice applicable and stopped it right there.

these kinds of people always double down. they cant do otherwise because that would be taking responsibility for the situation they created and they simply refuse to be anything other then a victim. Deroir handled this like a gentleman. nothing made her react in any way. she decided to react like a child. she was an asshole that's why they fired her. they needed to fire her because if they weren't fired they would have been emboldened and her behavior would have gotten even worse.

I want to point out an example of gamers loving a female game dev: Rebecca Ford from Digital Extremes. All of us fans love her. And the warframe community has people into their 60's and both men and women. And guess what? She is open to talking about the game on her Twitter.

I worked at Arby's and if at anytime I could be associated with them during my off hours, I was still expected to represent the company values in customer service. Any time you wear your company's name like a badge, they have a right to critique and punish you for how you make them look. This was detailed in the hiring contract I signed for a damn restaurant, so I have to imagine the same is true as you go higher up in employment.

As a woman who works in the tech world this really ticked me off. People like this girl are the reason that people aren’t taking the actual problems women face in the work force seriously. Rather than acting like an adult, listening to his advice and having a mature conversation as a person she had to make it about “gender inequality”. She apparently couldn’t handle whatever critique he had and felt like she had to use the very serious issue of mistreatment of women in the tech and gaming world to cover up for her complete lack of respect for the people in her community. This had nothing to do with her being a woman yet for some reason she felt like she had to pull that trump card because she knew if she did everyone would turn on him. It’s completely repulsive, unforgivably manipulative and does no one any favors.

I wonder deep down if Jessica price actually knows she went over board with her reaction and then eventual firing, but is too full of pride to admit she was in the wrong.

This is the reason why you should never socialize publicly online when you are drunk or under the influence of drugs or under extreme pressure, since you will not act like yourself. Although it is nice to vent, it can bite you in the bum when venting happens to be in the wrong place and time, expressing misguided thoughts. There are some companies like Ubisoft, where if you are not an Alpha white male, you are stepped on all day long. She had it pretty good in Arenanet.

Having worked with Peter (he was dishwashing for a year in a kitchen I cook in) I'm crushed to hear that this happened. I remember having conversations on smoke breaks and being stunned by how dedicated he was to Guild Wars and providing for his family. Don't think this needed to happen.

Claims she lashed out in frustration over unrelated issues, but refuses to own up to the fact that she lashed out at a very passive person who even disengaged and apologized immediately. Then continues to shit on said passive person and tries to rally a mob on them. Then does this repeatedly to other people. Then smears the company name for not defending her behavior. So, she lacks self-control, has a volatile temper, and lacks accountability for her words and actions. That is the making of a bad employee right there. Slap on the fact that she's wearing her company name and position as a badge on her public "personal" social media, and you've got a time bomb.
