YongYea what if he didn't though? A game that is so small the only unique thing is the quicker charge time of it's better attacks. If it was a bigger unique game.
YongYea Don't bother giving him that courtesy. He's an idiot, and he should suffer the consequences. if he can't get a job in the gaming world, it's all his fault.
And it's very likely that he is also deleting comments about him plagiarizing. The dislikes on his recent videos are WAY too high to be almost barren of negative comments. I think his current tactic is to delete everything that involves about the whole news about him so that new people who finds his channel won't know about his scummy past. But the dislike bar proves that the north remembers.
ghos7fire It’s more like you have a limited amount of ads unless your video is 10 minutes long. Then you can put as much ads as you want and get that sweet sweet RU-vid money. Plus the watch time is more valued than views by the algorithm so you get more money but also a better ranking.
Since IGN fired him people have uncovered other plagiarized reviews. My favorite one is of a Metroid game where the original reviewer made a mistake on which button to push and Captain Cheesedog here copied the mistake also.
Surprisingly, what he said to Boomstick doesn't sound anything genuine. It's more like mocking him because he gained more popularity and even more subs overnight. It almost sounds like - "See? I don't have to apologize to you because I gave you the success that you're enjoying now"
It sounded as if he was congratulating Boomstick for outsmarting him, like Boomstick just beat him at a game of poker or something. Disingenuous and patronizing.
"He dug himself deeper into the hole he created but not without properly articulating himself. An interesting move was to bring up plagiarized reviews of the past but it didn't pay off, though it did show his ballsy approach and deceptive nature. The way he danced around the issue was smooth and silky and his dramatic exit at the end was no different. The apology had zero substance but a lot of style. 9.0 out of 10." -ign
It would have been difficult going forward, but he could have saved his career if he had given a genuine apology. Now his career in the game industry is over.
Clell Biggs not really. A third plagiarized review has been found and it’s even more obvious than the FIFA review. This guy should have stayed silent and jumped ship from the creative career path in general. He needs to reboot his career and go into something that doesn’t deal in writing or creativity because he has none of his own.
He wouldn't have been able to save his career after the first allegation. Once you've been accused of plagiarism, it's over. Your name is permanently associated with fraud. All it takes is an editor at a journal or newspaper Googling his name. He needs to learn how to write code instead of articles. If he knows how to speak a second language, he might be able to teach English. The problem with these allegations in non-journalism workspaces is that it portrays a sense of dishonesty and untrustworthy, which managers don't wanna deal with in employees.
matthewthesecond I totally agree. He has no chance if anything requires writing or honesty. He could do something with numbers or even just physical labor. There are many career paths he can take. His life isn’t over but his dreams most likely are but it’s well deserved.
Let's hope it is; some people are crucified are some are given a full pardon these days, and there's hardly any in-between thanks to social media today, or at least it definitely feels like there isn't any in-between. So again, let's hope he's done. we don't need this shit in our "gaming journalism".
The biggest giveaway with the Samus Returns review was pointed out by someone on Twitter to Jason. And it's that Engadget incorrectly stated that precision aiming is done with R. It's actually done with L. But Filip also claimed it was done with R. The R button in that game is used to toggle missiles. I'd love to hear him explain how that review isn't an example of plagarism considering that his review mirrors theirs quite a bit and even gets the same control element wrong.
Ultran I That's what toxic people do. they lie and lie until they can't lie anymore, and then they blame someone else. I'm sure that Miucin will try to shift the blame pretty soon.
Same, i had some sympathy for him... any1 can make a mistake... but the way he is patronizing the guys who he plagiarised is absolutely disqusting, this guys has doesn;t know what moral code is.
I call BS on the doing research for a review crap. Film critic Roger Ebert intentionally avoided others peoples opinions on a film before he watched it. He would even go as far a trying to avoid movie trailers. The reason was to maintain the purity of his criticism. It was a way of making sure his opinions were his own, and not tainted by the views of others. Blatant plagiarism like this is despicable.
Thomas Polaino i saw the comparisons from other reviews. This is the one he copy pasted word for word. The others he didnt get caught with were "almost" word for word. Some adjectives were changed and pronouns were added. What it seems like is 1 of 2 things Ign knew and didnt care. Ign doesnt check for plagiarists or does any kind vetting. Personal note. IGN has how many repasted walkthroughs?
I've been reviewing horror films (As a critic) for a little over three years now. When I started, I did read another review or two before writing my own because of my own insecurities. Now I avoid other reviews like the plague and take no opinion into account other than my own. Reading everyone elses reviews to formulate an opinion shows a lack of ability, insecurity, and authenticity. Not very professional at all.
DansTube.TV It was more than that. It was unprofessional, plagiarism, AND unprofessional plagiarism. He doesn't even bother actually changing anything. It legitmately seems like he wrote his video with 4 different materials: a pen, a paper, the pause/play button, and a thesaurus. He could have at least changed the order around. He's a shit person AND a shit plagiarizer.
Kabobawsome I agree with your facts and anger but dude is a son a brother maybe a father and he obviously needs help and has for awhile. We shouldn't completely headshot the guy into the grave he dug himself. Hit him with the shovel but let him wake up 😂
Not only has filip deleted the original post he is now copyright striking people who use his vid or clips of it. He made money stealing other people's stuff but apparently doesn't like it when people use his vids. Hypocristealy much?
IGN handled the situation really well, and I’m proud of them of the way they handled it, but Filip is completely obnoxious. Owning up to it, would not only help him in the future, it will help IGN look better because one of their employees owns up to their mistakes. Good on IGN, bad on Filip. Remember, blame Filip, not IGN.
CabinDoor No, and that’s not what I’m implying. Specifically I’m proud on how Peer handled the situation, and some of the others who released statements on how Filip was fired and them saying that Filip did plagiarize. IGN isn’t a person as a whole, it’s made up f several people, some good some bad. While I dislike their reviews and content, some of the people at IGN handled this situation swiftly and in a good way instead of lying and saying he didn’t plagiarize.
The Sword Art Online Dickriding Association Not quite. His implications about IGN are clearly hyperbolic. I know IGN has done some dumb shit in the past but they are nowhere near being just as bad as having a “serial rapist” work in a soup kitchen. He could have used something less extreme in my opinion.
Trevor Martin was known for scamming people with CS:GO gambling sites. He made a shitty apology video shortly afterwards that nobody bought. The scandal was a big deal back in... 2016 I believe? H3H3 did a good video on it; just look up "CSGO Gambling H3H3" on RU-vid and you'll find it explain everything.
Trevor Martin is TmarTn, a piece of shit who promoted his csgo gambling site with fake advertising. He used his dog to gain pity in his “apology” video, kinda like what Filip is doing now (minus the dog). I think I butchered the joke far enough.
He stole this apology from Chris Christie. When he shut the Brooklyn bridge down he kept saying "At the end of the day I'm the governor and it's my responsibility." No real apology, just shifting the blame to people under him.
Every minority (or majority) group have their own personal victim calling card. For white straight men they use their wife and kids for sympathy, as we've seen in his video (proof of his family being harassed is where exactly?).
Since he lacks any form of credibility, I would like to see evidence first that his family is being targeted. This is a classical move that is pulled to shift attention away from the real issue and onto false matters. By making it seem like his family is being threaten, he is now the victim in this case and should be granted sympathy. It's like catching a thief who stole money, at first it's clear cut because it's breaking the law. Now if you find out that they stole the money to feed their hungry family or to pay for medicine for their wife who has cancer. that completely changes the parameters of it. In school, we had to take profiling as part of our classes and you can read his demeanor, body language, and eyes. This overall was rehearsed and it lacks true form of compassion. He addresses more how he is the center of the universe versus how his actions have impacted others, which shows how damaged his moral and ethical fabric is. This guy is a grade A, first class, scum bag who clearly has issues that he is hiding.
@TheFallofTheEleventh ironic - happening in the opposite way to what is expected, and typically causing wry amusement because of this. ex: it was ironic that now that everybody had plenty of money for food, they couldn't obtain it because everything was rationed Sooo...where's the irony in him deleting his apology? I can see that being fitting but not ironic.
avirx8 it’s ironic since he’s been claiming he did nothing wrong and that the review was simply done the same way any other reviewer or critic would approach it and that it’s what he does for reviewing anything. He basically shifts the blame off himself and then doesn’t offer an apology. He then deleted it showing that none of his words are genuine. That’s the irony of it
Well to be fair, he's nowhere near as bad as price, he's avoiding an outright apology, but I think he's said enough, I'd be fine if he keeps his job with a warning
Key difference being he's a man so shit holes like Kotaku actually does their job instead of defending the poor wahmen. If the IGN editor was "Filippa Miucin" Kotaku would be making articles about how outrages it is she got fired, and how all the reviews being similar was just a coincidence.
It's not easy. Anything we do should be given time and effort. The problem is he took the easy way. Even I from high school and college never ever plagiarized or copy pasted any work from the net but made my own content and words or expression. I'm not sure if Filip was trained like this in high school or college but an easy way out in anything will only lead one to fail. Doing reviews even if it is just for a game is not really easy but should be respected and be done properly. Also he is not just a student, a small youtuber or a person on social media. He represents an organization whether it is the most hated or loved gaming news channel. He should have been more responsible because he is not only representing himself but also a body. Best of luck to him but this should be a lesson for everyone not only professionals but also to students learning how to properly write on paper.
101Bancho I’m gonna stop you at “it’s not easy” a guy who literally reviews games even said himself during this that it’s easy to review games. Filip has no excuse for this.
It's still not easy to review anything if you have the interest to do something professionally. Seems like he just keeps digging himself by saying that It's easy but can't deliver. I'm not even defending this guy, hope you were able to understand my message and not just stopping at the "It's not easy" part
Thanks for the analysis. This is truly baffling, he had one simple job: play a video game, and offer his honest opinion. Why anyone would need to plagiarize for a task so simple and straightforward is beyond me...
flippedoutkyrii He made the video expecting support from his fans. Instead they all turned on him because everyone can easily see he's lying. You know it's bad when not even your own fans are willing to support you. XD
Try any Logan Paul apology or to a broader stroke, any youtube apologizing. From the sigh, to the fact he never actually apologizes for the FACT he plagiarized in verbatim broomsticks reviews. Dude can't even may an original apology video -_-
*SIGGGGGHHHHHHHH* ‘I’m not really sure where to start....’ *every generic forced bullshit apology which every person who has turned out to be 100% guilty says*
Since everyone is focusing on this guy's half-assed apology, I figure this might be a good time to sneak in my apology to the source I copied for my 6th grade country report: Wikipedia, you are an amazing website, and I wish you nothing but the best going forward. You seem to have a great thing going Wikipedia, so just keep doing what you're doing. I have nothing but respect for you.
I loved the ending. Made me laugh. I think you should add little things like that in your videos more often, comedic tension breaks or whatever you want to call it. Made this video much more enjoyable from just that little subtle nuance of comedy. I personally really enjoyed it. But hey, just a personal preference suggestion. Great video nevertheless as always!
Notice how at 05:00 he starts talking about him previously being a RU-vidr as well (referring to Boomstick) and then he says: "I completely understand what it's like being a small RU-vidr trying to make a name for yourself", just sort of indirectly implying that Boomstick falsely accused him of plagiarism to get publicity and to get his channel to grow. This shithead got caught plagiarising another man's work, someone who's been trying to make a living off of it, and not only does he not have the decency to properly apologize for that, he accuses Boomstick of making false alligations. Yong, you said you wouldn't mind giving him a second chance, well given that it was the second time he did that kind of shit - he already had a second chance and he blew it. Moreover, he doesn't even acknowledge what he did, so FUCK NO - no more chances for this dude, I hope I will never come across him or his work again.
Ok, not that I'm defending this guy, but your interpretation is pretty much bullshit. He didn't had the intention of doing what you're stating. Shit him as you want for plagiarism, but there is no need to start inventing stuff.
yongyea has good info, but he is a dumfuck.... example, when the one chick got fired from guild wars 2, he says "o well im not saying there isn't sexism and blah blah blah" but then, when "white dude" draw penis' on the wall, or the like, he gives no sympathy....... he is a left wing nutjob.... at least he has some facts, but his opinioons, r SHITTTTT.... looks like he eats too much soy too.
This is just baffling to me. Why on Earth would you plagiarize a *game review* of all things? Just play the game, then say what you thought about it. Now I'm wondering if he's even bothering to play these games at all, beyond just generating some background footage.
He wasn't the one to give it a high 9 was he though, although I think he played it, but just wanted to get more credit for his reviews, and look better than he actually is at doing reviews.
Yea true, laziness is a big part of it, if you got such a job to review games like this and you were basically qualified, then fucking do it, tbh if you know how to structure a review it's not hard to give your own damn opinion if you played the game. Even when you're starting out, and you don't really know how to make a review like angry joe, or some of the other classic reviewers on youtube, you can still easily tell in at least quite a few sentences what you think of the game and just keep going from there and in time you kind of give it your own charm, something that makes it really your review.
Why on earth would you plagiarize a school paper of all things? Just read the prompt and give your opinion on the topic. Now I’m wondering if people even bother reading or giving their own thoughts on things, beyond just rephrasing someone else’s thoughts they found online.
Philip: Oh crap they found out! Phillip: welp time to do a dramatic apology *Types in how to make an apology video on RU-vid* This comment is definitely not plagiarized. The sarcasm is totally not plagiarized either
Oh this is gonna be rich Edit: he literally admitted he watches other reviews and takes from then for his personal reviews. AND monetized an “apology” video. Fookin ell, forget spades, this guy’s digging his grave with a friggin LBX Excavator
300-I.Q. Prower forget digging your own grave. This guy is digging a hole straight to hell. Not even his own fan base wants anything to do with him anymore
It's not even digging a grave at this point. It's trying to hang yourself over a long fall into a cold river...and also attempting to shoot yourself in the head at the same time. But instead you miss and end up hitting the rope, and then die of hypothermia in the hospital a few days later.
Logan paul was full cringe, and I barely could sit through the entirety of it, which I didn't but what little i saw, even the dude's face is laughably bad; you can see the genuine "im doing this for the 'requirement' and 'for the dont give a fuck' aspect of it.
2:38 "I do as much research as I can about it, whether it's a game, a product or an event. I try and look at ALL resources that I have available to me, before I start formulating my own critical opinions so that I can offer the most cohesive possible review." - Regardless of the plagiarism, this is a terrible way to be a critic. Your job role requires you to be able to formulate your own opinions! By doing this "research" you are creating biases... Either be a critic or be someone that correlates other peoples critical opinions. Being honest is far more important than making sure your stated opinions align with the general consensus.
oh, btw yong, as a writer of any kind, plagiarism is NOT something you come back from. it's like a child care professional being caught in the act of pedophilia. you're done.
You write the review based on YOUR OWN experience of said game, doing something like that is like trying to copy an English essay from the internet during first period so that you can turn it in by 5th, not in the real world buddy
He has the right to feel how he feels and acts the way he does. He shouldn't lie if he feels it wasn't plagarism or anything just to make you fuckers feel better about a situation that doesnt concern you in the slighest iota. The fact people think thats bad only furthers my belief that the vast majority of people are so up their asses they hate any other perspective than their own.
You people need to stop using the phrase "word for word." The review's obviously plagiarized & mostly the same, but not a single sentence of Boomstick's review was stolen "word for word." Otherwise it would be a copy&paste article.
Steals somebody's work for an easy, lazy way to get clicks: I was just following the normal process and using all resources available to me as a good worker should. Gets called out for it: Those people called me out for an easy, lazy way to get clicks!!!
Radix Lecti, Yes the last time I saw a big game review channel getting caught nicking other works. They sent the lawyers in to threaten the person that called them out.
This man took one of the greatest jobs ever, a career where you get paid to play games and express your opinion about it. Then he proceeded to trash it entirely. Shame, some people get so many good opportunities but don't cherish it until it's too late, then they realize how much they've lost.
He can’t apologize because I think he legit doesn’t understand what is wrong with what he did. I think he’s always done it but was never big enough before for anyone to notice, and we all know how the victim world works these days... if you can get away with it, you were entitled to it.
Rob K Music dude if he really DIDNT understand what he did was wrong he would have OPENLY DEFENDED COPYING THE WORK. He said nothing about "copying it" BECAUSE he knows it's wrong. Smh seriously you're claiming he doesn't know would've been backed up by him defending his actions. THINK about that. He avoided saying anything about copying the work, because he doesn't want to admit doing it. Christ.
+Rob K Music Frankly I disagree. I was born 1979 and was raised on the statement of "if you've done something wrong you have to admit it and apologize". If the guy admits he did commit plagiarism and apologize and work something out with Boomstick I bet he'll get some respect.
+Naclyn Erick II I was born in 1970 and he legit doesn't see anything wrong with that he did. That's my point. He's only "apologizing" because he feels the pressure to do so. He doesn't get it. Do you?
