Ya... I love playing this type stuff... You will find that you go back and forth between things... I think its our way of learning. Music types can all be put together if your a guitar player. Being able to play different things with different sounds is what its all about. Your guitar can really push you to play this or that.. lesson to it... the feel and the sound can take you places... Its why I think having a few different guitars is good thing. I'm more of a 80's hair band player.... But I love the Blues and Jazz. You can hear these styles in my form of playing.. Rock into Blues Blues in my Rock and a little Jazz in both. Make your own sound from what you are good at. Mix and Match and you will find all types of music fun to play !
Glad i found your channel. I have a double cut dual P90's from 5 years ago. And 3 fflps. I just received my last smokey burst about 4 months ago. I do not have a 338 but man i want one. I love the sound and feel of a good semi hollow.
I have an Ibanez AMH90 as well . . cost was around 700.00 and I ordered it with a Factory case total 830.00 bucks. This Firefly 338pro is a larger body than the Ibanez as well as being a thicker body type ( Depth of the hollow body ) I can buy 3 of these 338pro's and still have 100 bucks left over VS the Ibanez. I'm so impressed with this 338pro for its price point. I would say its the BEST BUY hollow body under the 600.00 dollars mark. Mine only needs a little tune up on the nut and set the intonation. I well do that with the factory strings on it and once right ... I'll put some nice strings on it. Mine was really good from Guitar Garden. I hope they all come this good !!! Ok, so I just got one of these in the chameleon green color and I am thoroughly impressed with the value here. A little background: I've been playing both electric and acoustic since 1990 and took lessons for the first 7 years. I've had many, many guitars over the years. I currently own an American fender mahogany select FSR stratocaster, a Gibson Les Paul classic, Yamaha A5R, and Alvarez MDA77CEAR. I also have done my setup on all my guitars since the 90s. Bottom line: I know how good quality guitars FEEL and sound when you play them. I also owned a gretsch streamliner that I hotrodded out but sold about 8 months ago. The streamliner is a similar guitar that cost more than 2x the $. I got the firefly because I've never had a guitar with SS frets and figured if I didn't like the firefly I could sell it locally. The Firefly beat the low end gretsch in pretty much every regard. The fit and finish were great. Quality of the fretboard is awesome with the perfect bacon color. There were no structural issues or anything else that needed to be corrected on the guitar. The most important part: The firefly is one of the more resonant semi-hollow body guitars that I have played. I pulled the .10's off and slapped on a set of 12's with a wound G. It had a little rattle/buzz with .10's that completely went away with the 12's. She really sings unplugged, plays and bends beautifully and feels great in the left hand. I expected the tuners to be absolute crap since none of the reviewers ever mention them; but they aren't AS bad as I was expecting. They are not great; but not horrendous. I am planning on upgrading the grovers in my Les paul and dropping those into the Firefly. I also have the Gibson Burstbuckers from my Les Paul because I replaced those with a Zakk Wylde EMG set. The Burstbuckers are now going into the Firefly since its totally worthy. The only downside to the Firefly: Its a MUCH thicker neck than I am used to. I have a hard time wrapping my thumb over the top for my bass notes like I do with pretty much everything else. Especially 5 note chords! My opinion: This is an INCREDIBLE shell. It is a WAY better guitar than it has any business being at the 200ish price point! I got it for less than 200$ shipped because of the current holiday sale + an 8$ discount code I found. That is just crazy for a well constructed guitar that plays great, has super polished SS frets, good fit + finish, and has acceptable everything else.
Ya, I have an Ibanez AMH90 with a factory case. Total cost was 850.00 with the case. I think the case was 159.00 bucks. So, we will say 700-dollar guitar. The Ibanez does sound a little more open and clearer... But cannot take a lot of gain.... She just doesn't like anything more than a lite church setting. The Firefly does sound good in clean ... just not as warm as the Ibanez. But that is where it stops.. The Firefly sounds better with lite church and .. !!!!! You can play it on a HIGH GAIN CHANNEL !!!! LOL ! ! ! ! Not that anyone would ever do that . . . LOL ! Ya it's a Super Deal... and yes, the Firefly does have more output sound unplug than the AMH90.. BUT the AMH90 is not as big and rounded or as thick as the Firefly338. I hope Firefly keeps making this guitar as it is... and can hold the 250 and under price point on this guitar for as long as the can.
@@DominionFretWorks I hope they can keep making them like this too. I know that I can personally keep this thing for years with minimal maintenance thanks to the frets. I REALLY like how she sounds and feels with the .12's ( I did not try 12's on the Gretsch). I think she'll really scream with the burstbuckers! Anyhow, I love how detailed your videos are. I just received the 4th of July 23 special(30 bucks off) in solid yellow body ff338 pro. I am a newbie, but the color is perfect, the binding nearly perfect, the frets seem to be perfectly finished/polished, the fret board was a little dry, an easy fix. Looking forward to your follow up video on tuning your 338, particularly the first fret issue you mentioned, although I don't know if I have that issue. Great video and I enjoyed the jam...

This guitar is soooooooo good for the money ! it really does a lot of different sounds... and does them well.... even HIGH GAIN !!! witch it really shouldn't be able to do... BUT IT DOES ! this is one crazy guitar at the 200.00 dollar price point ! I did change .... 1) Action Hieght 2) Installed new strings ( firefly comes most of the time with very bad strings ) 3) and reset the intonation for the new strings.... The review was done with all the factory setting and strings.. After doing the above... WOW This guitar just plays great ... Still can't believe its a 200.00 dollars guitar !

Another great breakdown. Was interested in the color on this as it reminded me of the Silver Sky Nebula paint job from a few years back. May have to check this out now too or wait until they try paint on their Strat. Picked up a couple of the FFMNs after watching your other review/updates. Great guitars with a little tlc…. had to replace the white volume knobs with some cream Tone knobs. Keep up the good work. 👍
The 338 they sent me is really nice ! It really just needs strings and the nut adjusted. Maybe drop the action a little . . . I will most likely do a video on the setup of this guitar. A tune up video . . Thanks for commenting and joining in on the fun !
No sooner than I mentioned it they came out with the FFST in this color. Decided to give it a shot and it arrived today. It looks much better in person vs the website photo (more like yours in this video). I also lucked out and got one that is not heavy. Roasted neck, locking tuners …so far only thing I’m not a fan of is the pickups for this model and will switch them out. So far the FF338 and FFMN are my favorite models.

Mine has a bridge with 2" E to E string spacing meant for o.g. 49.2mm pickups, it knocks the string alignment off on the 50/52mm modern spacing pickups. A bridge with modern 10.4mm string pitch would pull it back in line provided the bridge is actually set on the centerline of the neck. Nut string spacing on mine is pushed toward the bass side and the strings are generally mooshed towards the center. A Graphtech 42.95mm will drop in and ought to correct the spacing and geometry completely. I'm going to give the Kluson ABR-1 wire retainer 2 1/16" string spacing bridge a try, un-notched brass saddles. The alternative is 49.2mm pickups, a little harder to find on a budget (and always PAF-alikes as well.)

Bought this in the honey sunburst at the $199.00 price $226.00 delivered back in October. I absolutely love this guitar! Im still playing it every day and I own 22 different guitars ! My 3rd firefly , this 338 pro , an sg and the MadCat tele all 3 are amazing! Best $200 guitar on the market IMHO. Love the stainless ball end frets.
I have never seen the SG model in person.... I wanted to get one.... but waited to long and they sold out. I just did a review on the latest run of the MADCAT from Firefly. That guitar is just next level on the woodworking..
Just received my 338 pro, and wow! Initial inspection, amazing. The bridge tone knob seems a bit to close to the binding, but they are all in alignment. Strings are centered over the bridge pickup screws. The neck pickup screws are a bit outside both E strings, but well centered. Otherwise flawless...so far. This one weighs 6.3lbs. Thanks again, your review is the reason I bought this style guitar. Didn't know what I was missing :0)
Witch color did you get ??? The salted Maple top one looked cool back when they had that one.... and they made a Cream White one time that was cool.... Have you seen the new video YET ??? HMMMM>>> get some popcorn it's a long one !!! but good ! Monsoon video is up !
Of course I saw the new video, and ir was the perfect company while I was rewiring a tube amp. Hate to say, but going to pass on that one too. As for the 338, I bought the Ultra Prismatic with the intention of repainting the top a dark gold or a dark wine. But my wife loves it as is, and it's growing on me too. They matched the top real well and I only really see the Red/Orange/Yellow fade when playing and they blend nicely. The back is a beautiful dark walnut, maybe cherry walnut. May have to hang this one up on the wall backwards :0)
I play everything on mine.... LOL It even does well playing the 80's Hair Band stuff.... LOL But it's just alive playing the rock/blues stuff... Jazz/Blues fusion with a twist...I was going to install some DS pickups... but as I played the guitar more and more... The stock pickups have grown on me... So, just a good setup and good strings is all I have done to this guitar.@@maorienteg
I even like the sound unplugged :0) I guess I'm now going to have to learn all the rock-a-billy Christmas songs. BTW, like the outakes and the laughs at the end of the new vids :0)
This Model is what made Firefly.... They make improvements with each model run they make it seems. Really, it's hard to believe they can make the fit and finish this good for a guitar like this for this price. MY AMH 90 is almost 4 times the price ... and its only JUST A LITTLE TINY WINY BIT better in the fit and finish. This Firefly is a great guitar even at 2 times its cost.
These are the guitars that put FIREFLY on the map. They are still one of the best bang for your buck Hollow Body Guitars... There are a lot of companies now making the 200.00 hollow body. But I think Firefly was the first to really make a good one at this price point.
21:41 in the video I go over the scale of the neck. This video was done before I started checking the radius of the neck. Hopefully someone can post that information here for you... At the time I wasn't measuring the pickups... The channel has made changes in what is done in the reviews. I hope for the better. I do have two people thinking about buying this guitar right now... Ya .... this guitar is a great bang for the buck deal. You can buy 2 of these with shipping fees on all 2 and still be under the Epiphone price. Just buy 1 and get a new strap, cord, and a little Black Star Stereo 10 amp and still be under the Epiphone....
Mine came with one fret that was quite low. They gave me $20 or $30 off if I did a fret level. I did that as I liked the guitar. What I don't like is that the neck is very flexible and if you lean on the guitar or play it aggressively it will effect the tuning until you stop leaning on it. The neck is thin and where it joins the body is not as sturdy as my older firefly in this style.
I have not had the problem... But now that you have said something about it ... I will check mine and see if does this. I love Neck Bombs.... But also needs to be strong enough to stay in tune as you play. Thanks for commenting and sharing your INFO about the guitar!
That's the one big drawback to buying from Firefly. Their guitars often have a tiny flaw of some sort. I've never dealt with their customer service, but I've heard it sucks. This is how they are able to keep their prices so low.
At the time of this review I was not weighing the guitars..... Not that it will be that much....help.... But I do not remember this guitar feeling heavy ... Our newest reviews do give the total weight of each instrument ...
Wow! That neck depth goes 0.9 inches to 1 inch at that 12. Did I hear that correctly? We just may have a winner. You have to pay Gibson Custom Shop prices to get neck carve like that. I love 335s but hate the slim neck profile that comes with so many of them. Feels like a toy.
This guitar has a good feel to it, the body is on the thick side. I also have an Ibanez AMH90, which is much thinner. But the FF338 pro has a better unplugged sound. I guess the volume of the body in this case really helps with that. This guitar is a winner at this price point... even all the way up to the Epiphones in the 800.00-dollar mark. Never played a Gibson hollow body guitar so I can compare them to one another.
Sometimes I think people are being overly critical on guitars these days. I own this guitar and it’s not perfect but for what I paid for it I’m happier than a pig in a puddle. I also own 2 Gibson and yes they are better but only bc of electronics and probably more attention to detail.
I try to review the guitars on the channel all the same way. It is up to you the viewer to make the call on buying it at the asking price. Sub 500 dollar guitar are just great now days.... and the sub 250 dollar guitar is just nuts...... So much for the money now days.
I do understand price points... But here every guitar is reviewed the same way...This was one of my earlier reviews.... The reviews now are even more to the point and cover more things. To me price doesn't matter... It is not my job to say if the guitar is good or bad for you. I review the guitar and point out everything I can find on the instrument ... Then you make the call if the asking price is in line with what the company has offered in the product. FYI .. My thoughts on this guitar.... In case of this Firefly hollow body.... It has a great over all fit and finish... Its sounds good... it plays good... To date this model is the best hollow body guitar I have reviewed or played under the 500.00 price point. If the pickups were a little warmer and less sharp on the attack... I would place it with a 800.00 price point hollow body. This was the guitar that give Firefly a following and a fan base. They do this model well. Thank You for commenting ! and I hope you understand that I am trying to not be like other reviewers here on YT. with each review I learn and grow as a reviewer... I try to put my skills as a guitar tech ... and a NC router programmer to good use doing these reviews. I do it due too ... somewhere out there ... their is a person that saving up for this guitar... This one is not.... But I think they're earlier models had issues with that.... This guitar is stable enough to run on high gain amps.... It is controllable.

You do a lot of inspecting , however, you never show the resistance if the pickups. Your test for Microphinic is also lacking. The way to know it=f the pick ups are microphonic is by having some gain and volume and delay on the amp and speaking into the pickup. If your voice is heard repeating then.. it is microphonic. The channel 60 cycle hum has shown this and firefly has put out guitars that are microphonic.. the question is.. are they still?
In the video I ran the guitar through an extremely high gain amplifier Yes the new reviews show more detailed information ... I have added a lot more information on my newer reviews. Gauging the neck for thicknesses and checking the neck radius. Going through an expecting all the solder joints ... Really not a DEMO channel. The channel has become a review channel. As far as my playing goes.... Ya when I started the channel, I had not played in 12 years maybe longer. I was VERY VERY RUSTY even in playing simple things. I was never a Super Guitar player even in my HAY DAY as the say. But over the last year my playing is starting to come back to me slowly... Still not up to my old skill level yet... But I have hopes that I can get as good as I was in the Mid 90's. I'm older with fingers that only a slow player could love.. LOL NOW >>>>>>>>> The part you're not going to like. ART made some .... WELL low end DSP units 16 to 24bit units... FX - FX lite - SGE -SGE mk2 but they also made some units that were just working man's stuff... Very much like the Alesis Quatra-Verb 1 and 2.... Just great units ! The ART SGX2000 express mk2 was just that unit. you had to spend 3 or 4 time the price to get anything that did half what it could do. They do have the ART "tone" as they said back in the day... but over the years I have been able to get the unit to hold its own. And to get the ART tone verb-delay tone to a min. a funny little artifact that the DSP did in the delay. AT 30 years old.... and still working.... with the working hours this unit has. I cannot say anything but good things about it... AND CRAP would differently not be the term I would use after all these years. it has proven itself time and time again. Now days there are no units made with a TUBE pre-amp stage and DSP in a 2 u mount. I have been looking at a new setup and have been playing some of the newer modeling units... Ax-FX and the Helix ... I do own a HX-Stomp it's OK for what it is... great sounding modeler pedal. Just has the THIN SOUNDING modeled tube sound... They all do... but it is very cost friendly ... if you're using it as a pre-amp DSP... Thank You for commenting and letting me know I need to work more on my playing!
